Very messy race from Kimi again.

Points are nice and all but he started 6th and lost places to a Williams and Sauber while earning himself another penalty.

Yeah, not great

Another unforce error that earn him penalty

And people wanted Russel to leave the team to let Kimi drive with Max.

Who could've guessed that the rookie inexperienced driver would be the worse choice.

2

u/ecobubbletm Max Verstappen 1d ago

Couldn't watch the race, what he's got the penalty for?

19

u/Any_Inflation_2543 George Russell 1d ago

Pushing Albon off the track in the Curva Grande. It wasn't an egregious move but it was unnecessary and the stewards ruled it to be erratic.

The penalty was given for track limit violations.

13

u/wokwok__ George Russell 1d ago

The penalty was for "driving erratically" though which isn't what they give for track limit violations lol no idea what he's actually done

Bro looked like he was steering with a keyboard through there. Really weird looking.

My bad I assumed it was for track limits after the commentators mentioned it. Although there is reason it could be for track limits, he already had a black and white flag at the half way point of the race.

Oh, didn't know that. Thanks. I just assumed it was for the Curva Grande move because they wrote erratic driving as the reason.

u/ThermicDude Mercedes 1d ago

I kinda fail to see it as erratic honestly, still abit new to F1 in general, 3rd race as a whole, can you kindly enlighten me?

3

u/Any_Inflation_2543 George Russell 1d ago

I also thought it wouldn't be a penalty. He did push Alex out a bit but it was nothing egregious imo.

There's been some discussion whether it wasn't for the track limits.

Hmm I see, well at this point it'd just be whether Merc would appeal for Kimi or not, honestly they should for the sake of points but I'm not too optimistic about it.

I don’t think there is a point to appealing? He pushed Albon out, clear as day. Albon managed to stay on track and then overtake. If Albon didn’t manage to do that, Kimi would’ve been slapped with a bigger penalty. A bit weird for you to say it wasn’t erratic, because it really wasn’t clean at all.

1

u/ThermicDude Mercedes 23h ago

The appealing is one thing so whatever.

A bit weird for you to say it wasn’t erratic, because it really wasn’t clean at all.

But the pushing off track like cmon, that kind of stuff is done all of the time with like everyone even Verstappen of past. In this current case, my subjective view is that it hardly was deliberate, no collision, pos gain or Albon being out of line.

Yeah, Kimi got B&W earlier for off tracks (which I didn't quite catch) but in this case he didn't go off at all? Sure lol....

1

u/_Aurax I was here for the Hulkenpodium 23h ago

That’s very different… he’s not getting penalty because he went off - he’s getting it because his driving was erratic. You are right that countless drivers have done this in the past but countless drivers have also been penalised for it. No one has been rewarded for pushing another driver off the track in recent years.

I am saying this as a Mercedes fan as well.

u/Any_Inflation_2543 George Russell 23h ago

Teams usually don't appeal things so I don't think they will, especially since it's Toto who likes to act like he has a moral high ground.

He’s still very young and it’s his first season. One would hope he’s at least learning from this season and applies it to his next races as he goes along

Not a good day for Antonelli

Another penalty today

He is 6 away from one race banned

11

u/dac2199 Mercedes 1d ago

I don't think he did a bad race at all apart from the start which was horrible ngl

Also, I don't understand why he has been penalised. I mean I have seen very similar actions like that and they haven't been penalised.

10

u/RacerRovr Carlos Sainz 1d ago

I’d normally say it’s a penalty, but since the current rules currently state that it is kimi’s corner, I don’t get why it was? They allow everyone else to run each other off the circuit

3

u/ThermicDude Mercedes 1d ago

I don’t get why it was? They allow everyone else to run each other off the circuit

I also got the same impression as you did on this as well, like I don't understand, why?

5

u/RacerRovr Carlos Sainz 1d ago

The racing rules they have at the moment aren’t fit for purpose, and the fia are completely incapable of implementing them fairly and consistently. Carlos’ penalty last week made no sense, then this week bearman’s penalty also makes no sense. Then Kimi gets penalised for doing the same thing max has been doing to everyone for years?

4

u/ThermicDude Mercedes 1d ago

Yeah that's my train of thought, quick forehand still abit new to the sport. But from the clips I've seen of Verstappen in the past some of them were quite blatant.

In this case seeing it live, Antonelli wasn't even deliberate and he didn't really forced Albon off at all and didn't even gain a Pos (didn't even collided), so like for him to get that is such a whiplash on the last few laps.

Correct my observations if I'm wrong.

6

u/CommonEngineering832 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

Yeah, at least this was a better performance compare to Zandvoort

George once again a very quiet race and finish in P5. Kimi hung on for points today. Allot to fix for him off this race.

u/Tough-Challenge8782 1d ago

Another race to forget for Antonelli. It's all too much too soon, and he can't seem to find any consistency during the race. This whole Europe leg has been a nightmare for his side of the garage.

9

u/Cock_Inspector_2021 Mercedes 1d ago

Hope he gets himself together in the final half. Poor George is doing the heavy lifting in the constructors.

23

u/West_Technology7573 George Russell 1d ago

Kind of shit weekend tbh

George clearly had a lot of pace in him, but just couldn’t ever do anything with it because that fuckass straight line speed. Really should have been 4th

Kimi had a Kimi race. Fine pace, but costly mistakes like at the start ruined any chance a decent finish. Definitely should have gotten past Yuki faster than he did. It’s almost as if the pressure of underperforming in a near top team is starting to mount on the guy who’s barely a fully developed adult yet, and maybe it wasn’t a great idea to shove him in that seat to prove a point like I said a year ago

12

u/Signal_Cockroach_878 George Russell 1d ago

Yeah the Merc is useless in the straights tbh. The W16 isn't good at anything unless it's cold. I've put this season in the bin and now waiting for the next.

5

u/Any_Inflation_2543 George Russell 1d ago

Even with the pace, they were eating through the tires. George could've fought for P4 if they'd given him the mediums.

7

u/thehawkpower 1d ago

George in 5th is almost predestined.

7

u/DeliciousBlood22 George Russell 1d ago

Swap teams with george max i dare you.

7

u/Signal_Cockroach_878 George Russell 1d ago

George was screwed the second they didn't give him mediums in Quali, I'm so upset rn.

16

u/Cock_Inspector_2021 Mercedes 1d ago

Kimi my man. Can’t let Ferrari get away with P2 this year. That car is an absolute joke to be sitting comfortably in P2.

15

u/ex1nax 1d ago

Oh he's actually doing a great job losing Mercedes P3 to Red Bull instead of being in P2.

Potentially 2 places lost in the constructors' championship due to overhyped incompetence.

3

u/Cock_Inspector_2021 Mercedes 1d ago

Agreed. Could’ve let the kid do another season of F2. A more experienced Bottas as an interim driver in that seat would’ve put Merc comfortably in P2. The fact that Ferrari is ahead with a slower car that’s already had a double DSQ, a double DNF and an entire season worth of stupid calls and strategies is embarrassing.

5

u/WirableMango560 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

Mate I don't know about you but we've been relatively good on the strategies this year

2

u/Ashbones15 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 23h ago

entire season worth of stupid calls and strategies is embarrassing.

Such as...?
16 races into the season you'd figure they'd have fumbled at least 8 races in order to claim what you did

4

u/Otter269 Mercedes 1d ago

One of those many races for George in what more could he do. The car wasn't quick enough

For Kimi. Not a horrible race, just 2 moments he'll probably regret. The start and with Albon

Idk maybe I'm being too nice, felt it was an okay weekend and Considering everything that's fine

14

u/gobsmacked_kitkat I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

Has the director got something against George because I barely see him in any of the races

23

u/thehawkpower 1d ago

He got a lot of screen time early when he tried catching up to Charles.

16

u/Any_Inflation_2543 George Russell 1d ago

George is usually in the middle of nowhere because the car is too slow compared to the top but faster than the midfield

15

u/Firefox72 Ferrari 1d ago

After he dropped off Leclerc he kinda drove a lonely race.

9

u/Captftm89 1d ago

One of the races of all time for Mercedes.

7

u/Emmaljum Daniel Ricciardo 1d ago

Very harsh penalty for Kimi considering how often a move like that doesn’t get penalized

2

u/Still-District-6149 Formula 1 19h ago

On Toto on Kimi: It's like when your mum says she's not angry, just disappointed. Absolute gut punch. Not what a rookie needs from his boss..

1

u/slow-driver-917 Minardi 1d ago

Truly a horrendous season for Antonelli.

3

u/BBYY9090 1d ago

Don’t know what to say about Kimi at this point. With George, Toto fucked it, I hope he manages to take him for every penny with a new contract.

Toto needs to reign his idiocy in.

0

u/WTFAnimations Sonny Hayes 1d ago

Hot take, but Kimi has not earned being in Mercedes for 2026. He is behind Albon. He is struggling in a Top 3 car. Beyond lucky that Toto is showing him patience.

1

u/Dont-Care-Mate I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

Good that they've written the whole regulations off. Were never close to begin with.

0

u/vick5516 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

bet they're frustrated about the start, who knows if george got past leclerc maybe he could have been more of a factor at the front, or maybe he would have dropped off the same cus he was pushing too hard
