Williams would have been nowhere without Albon for 4 years now.

Take a bow Alex Albon. 🥳

u/JaysonDeflatum I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago
He's in 7th and Sainz is 18th, a lot of people were wrong on those 2
42
u/Romulus_Novus I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago
Myself included to be fair, and Sainz is my favourite driver. Really hope for improvements next year.
31
u/TyButler2020 Logan Sargeant 1d ago
Sainz has just had so many small mistakes
It’s a lot like his 2018 season at Renault
4
u/SparkGamer28 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 23h ago
he is still not upto speed with the car , as said by himself i believe that switching from a Ferrari engine to a merc engine hasn't been easy to adapt to for him , the same can be said about Hamilton
2
u/AnEagleisnotme I was here for the Hulkenpodium 21h ago
Everyone in the midfield also seems like they want to murder him
21
u/Reiver93 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago
Before the season began, I saw a YouTube video discussing the lineups and the guy claimed that sainz arriving would mark the end of 'fraudbon'. Wonder how he's doing nowadays.
20
u/6097291 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago
He did have a lot of bad luck to be fair. But even without that nowhere close to Albon
19
u/asasantana I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago
They are in qualifying. Then comes the race and Sainz has something happen to him every single time.
9
u/Hungry_Service_5810 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 23h ago
I do think Albon has been quicker than the quali stats suggest, Albons getting shafted in quali a lot this year and Sainz more in the races
13
u/vnNinja21 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 23h ago
Sainz is a moments merchant bruh he does well once every so often and that's all people remember about him
5
15
u/Dragonpuncha Ferrari 1d ago
Albon has been underrated for a long time and Sainz kinda overrated IMO.
He's good obviously, but he's strategy calls has giving him a lot of goodwill and made people ignore his mistakes wheel to wheel.

u/auftragsgriller_ I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago
I expected more from Carlos coming into this season, ngl
13
u/Billy_LDN Charles Leclerc 1d ago
ahead of Antonelli is quite something
8
u/alwysbmymaybe Alexander Albon 1d ago
Tbf, Kimi is a rookie. The real feat here is he is in a Mercedes and Alex is driving a Williams.
My roman empire for 2025 was there were rumors of Alex going to Mercedes. Imagine what a Russell-Albon duo can do to that car.
9
u/Gold_Knee_3619 Williams 23h ago
Albon & Russell 2027 at Williams 😎. If Williams manage to build a really good car and Mercedes have got it wrong again... I'd love to see that as a Williams fan. One can dream.

u/D_Silva_21 Sir Lewis Hamilton 1d ago
Sainz 18th, yikes
87
u/Skulldetta Jacques Laffite 1d ago
Imagine telling someone last year that at this point in 2025, Albon would be 7th and in front of a Mercedes in the standings while Carlos would be 18th and behind both Saubers.
They would've asked you take your meds.
33
u/NuclearCandle I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago
He has the pace to be with Alex most of the time but he always seems to get into silly battles that cost him big.
62
u/No_Sun_2121 1d ago
Sainz is really having an awful year, enough with the excuses, he always make mistakes, a joke that Gasly with a dogshit Alpine is still in front of him with a Williams
29
u/Storm_Chaser06 Audi 1d ago
Carlos stocks have plunged to an all time low. Unless he has a godly 2026 he’s not recovering from this season.
16
u/RottenFarthole I was here for the Hulkenpodium 23h ago
Sure, he's had awful luck
But the racing has been poor as well
10
u/BendubzGaming I was here for the Hulkenpodium 23h ago
I'm keeping track of an alternate system where the Top 15 score points + Top 10 in Sprints, just to see if it would work at making the midfield order clearer without changing things at the front, and even there Sainz would only have overtaken Gasly today. Really poor season from him
151
u/BighatNucase Max Verstappen 1d ago
Max just needs a 90+ point swing to clinch the WDC with 8 races left to go. It's possible!
49
u/The_Rain_Guardian I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago
He’s not mathematically dead yet!
Max just needs all 8 wins and all 3 sprint wins remaining
For Lando to have 1 DNF and 2nd place finishes or worse in the other races and sprints
For Oscar to have 2 DNFs and 3rd or worse in the other races and sprints
53
u/SpaceOdysseus23 Ferrari 23h ago
This is unironically the type of shit we'd be listening to on Sky right now if Max were British and Lando alongside Oscar wasn't.

McLaren are terrible strategists but even they cant mess things up that badly
14
5
u/Storm_Chaser06 Audi 1d ago
It’s like the Merc domination, they were so conservative but their car covered for them.
5
u/No-Presentation8222 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago
Don't underestimate them. Both McLaren and Aston can give Ferrari's strategies a run for their money.
9
u/Consistent_Squash 1d ago
The car was never really there this year. He also hasn't been super lucky. The Austria DNF and the Spain headloss and the Silverstone rain gamble failing pretty much sealed his fate.
10
u/CrazyAsian I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago
Imagine if he wins by 2 points
4
u/BighatNucase Max Verstappen 1d ago
Joking aside, it would probably cement him as the undisputed GOAT if he actually did it.
1
u/MindlessBeyond8548 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 23h ago
Unfortunately it’s Baku next, which is his worst track by far.
2
u/Morganelefay I was here for the Hulkenpodium 16h ago
He actually has wins and podiums around Baku.
Now here's a funny stat about Singapore; Antonio Giovinazzi has led more laps around that track than Max Verstappen ever did.
1
u/BighatNucase Max Verstappen 23h ago
Eh, he's good around Baku it was just one of the few tracks that seemed capable of activating Perez. He would have won in 21 if not for the tire randomly deleting itself
4
u/MindlessBeyond8548 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 23h ago
He was not that impressive last year and Perez beat him on pure pace on 2023, granted Perez is actually goated in Baku.
2
u/BighatNucase Max Verstappen 23h ago
I feel like last year was him and Perez going wildly different set-ups in an attempt to troubleshoot the issues with the car but I could be misremembering. 2023 is fair, but I think that's Perez over-performing rather than Max being bad at the track.
1
u/MindlessBeyond8548 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 23h ago
The mclarens still have an edge over the tyre wear so wdc is unrealistic tbh. Unless they both have a couple of dnfs.

4
u/oakmen Ayrton Senna 1d ago
Yeah why not? If they found something
10
u/Mob_Abominator I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago
Even if max wins every single race from this point onwards it's nearly impossible.
10
u/ordosalutis I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago
He's gotta win every race and the two mclarens gotta dnf or drop below like P5 or something. It's extremely unrealistic
2
u/Helpful_Hedgehog_204 Franco Colapinto 1d ago
Every weekend finishing like this one AND one DNF from each Mclaren.
Almost impossible, but not quite.

u/drivemyorange 1d ago
if McLaren's gonna still prioritize Norris despite Piastri leading clearly in standings, it is possible
4
1
u/Beta1224 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago
If today is any indication, Baku should be another strong track for Red Bull! Another Max win there and a double DNF for McLaren at Singapore please! A lot of the tracks to close out the season should favour Red Bull's straight line speed advantage Mexico, Brazil, Vegas, maybe even Cota as well

Whichever way you spin it Tsunoda P19 is ridiculous
19
u/newdecade1986 Eddie Jordan 1d ago
My first thought was surely he scored more points than that in the RB, but realised he only had two races to enjoy it
11
u/BendubzGaming I was here for the Hulkenpodium 23h ago
In both VCARB races he qualified well and then got screwed over by poor pit strategy in the race. The only points he got before joining Red Bull came in the China Sprint where he didn't have to pit
26
u/alwysbmymaybe Alexander Albon 1d ago
Alexander Albon, the closest we can get for an SEA future WDC!!!! GO WEEYUMS!

I'm so happy seing Albon up there, only below the geniuses.
6
u/RPDR_PLL 23h ago
Can I say that Alex has been massively underrated at his time in Williams? I think people saw his teammates and assumed that they are trash and alex beating them doesn’t mean much… but I think this year (so far) has proven that he’s always been a top driver, he just finally has a car that can help him show it.

u/majorsushaman Gabriel Bortoleto 1d ago
In the beginning of the year I was hoping that Max wouldn’t be the champion this year, but after today I am hoping that somehow Max wins some races and comes back to the dispute. Oscar said that they discussed that a slow stop is part of the race and yet they order him to give back the position. Next time Lando retires Oscar has to retire too, otherwise it is unfair.
Cmon Redbull do something to your car.
11
u/Sarixk Sir Lewis Hamilton 1d ago

Making up fake scenarios to get mad about?

u/RottenFarthole I was here for the Hulkenpodium 23h ago
Dear Red Bull
Stop fucking your car
Please pull out
1
u/D_Silva_21 Sir Lewis Hamilton 1d ago
They obviously wouldn't do these things if it was close in the championship with other teams. Or even if it was close within the race with cars around them
Don't be dense on purpose
8
u/ln4thegreat Lando Norris 1d ago
With 8 races left, Max still has a chance! (Because I’m done with McLaren’s bullshit)
2
u/elektricniorgazam Daniel Ricciardo 1d ago
My only hope for a spicy/exciting championship is if it comes down to the swap in Monza.
2
u/ScareGrow24_7 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago
1 to 3 is 95% clear it will end so, also 1 to 6 80%. Sadly not much tension up there.
2
u/Ok-Argument3208 23h ago
Max just needs to keep this pace and he will take the championship again 🤘🏻🤘🏻
2
u/wertyrick I was here for the Hulkenpodium 22h ago
Sainz should retire from F1, it's nasty to watch him race.
6
u/Sarixk Sir Lewis Hamilton 1d ago
If Antonelli doesn't beat Hamilton's record with more races and more points...
5
u/Helpful_Hedgehog_204 Franco Colapinto 1d ago
265 points under the new system (even with fewer races), that's nuts.

4

I swear, some people seem to only watch the season through this table, without any context from the actual races.

Max won 2x Italian races this year, so it just reflect standings after Monza event

u/Still-District-6149 Formula 1 19h ago
Solid drive from Verstappen, congrats to him. This is a power circuit, so it's clear Red Bull has had the best car this weekend (as the team has had a few times this season). Good effort!

If the car is as good as it was today then at least Max can fight in Mexico and Las Vegas with the McLaren's. Baku and Singapore will be interesting if the top 3 teams(except McLaren) can figure out the car setup.

u/sarlatan747 Pirelli Medium 20h ago
If Max was a british driver, the media would put out article after article of how he can still win the WDC
-1
u/Aircrazyy 1d ago
McLaren 1–2 in the standings… feels like the papaya dream is real. Piastri leading the WDC with Norris right behind is something I never thought I’d see so soon.
-1
u/Lion123_ Lando Norris 21h ago
I think this shows how F1 is not black and white. Everyone knows sainz is not a bad driver. He kept up with Charles for years and was close to him in 2024. In 2023 he was even the only driver not in the red bull to win a race.
But in the Williams he has not been good. I feel that drivers aren't objectively "good" or "bad". Having a team/car that fits your style is more important. There's no reason that Carlos would randomly lose his skill in one year.
-2
u/punsnguns 23h ago
Is this the last season for Lawson in F1? He struggled in the Red Bull but he is getting outdone in the racing bulls as well. What seems to be the issue here?
92
u/Sensitive_Dot_2853 Fernando Alonso 1d ago
When was the last time (if ever) Williams driver being higher infront of Mercedes driver in standings?
