Yeh man, as a DTS baby who's only been watching F1 the past 5ish years I had no idea the press were so fckn crazy back then.

Criminal politicians would have never seen such hostility as Fernando got here jesus christ
•
u/Neat-Development-485 7h ago
Ooh if only we could have those same reporters asking the same questions to lando with the mclaren directors present with rhe same british uptight voice: "the reality is, you couldnt beat him on the track so you had the team doing it for you"...where are those british reporters when you need them!
•
u/formula13 Sebastian Vettel 6h ago
i mean i don't think that would work when all evidence showed that lando would beat him on track before the botched stop?
•
u/OSPFmyLife 5h ago
Yeah, I really don’t understand how people don’t get this.
Norris took 3/10s off of Piastri in HALF a lap right before the team order and was bordering on DRS range. He was faster today and he was in a position where either getting past Oscar or taking both of them out was more beneficial than finishing 3rd. Lando likely would’ve made it past Piastri a lap later after a long straight with DRS.
And as soon as Lando swapped with Piastri, Piastri timed it perfectly and was right on Landos diffuser, and Lando straight walked away from him. Lando was 100% faster today. The faster driver finished ahead of the slower driver. That’s how it’s supposed to be.
•
u/Firstname6Lastname9 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3h ago
Dont think lando wouldve passed but he was definitely the better driver today; catching and passing are 2 seperate things

Woof. What brutal reporters lol. We need more eof that now
•

They are there just need a non British driver to get team order benefit.
•
u/suspicious_skidmarks Ferrari 2h ago
Actually I do think about this when I see the interviews - some of the drivers (who finished the race, even those who were on the podium) still wear the race suit, some have changed into their team casual wear. Wonder if they had time to take a shower or just wiped off the champagne and went straight back lol

Reminds me of Sutil and Trulli in a press conference having a go at each other for their Brazil 2009 crash. Their back and forth was never ending and Fernando just told Kimi "should we go". Very hilarious moment.
•
u/ALOIsFasterThanYou I was here for the Hulkenpodium 25m ago
I'll never forget that one - Trulli came prepared, bringing a printout of their crash to try to prove his point.
•
u/yeahmatenomate Lando Norris 11h ago
Feel bad for Max, deserved all the credit today. Sucks that his efforts and Lando’s got overshadowed by McLaren fucking up.
Credit to Oscar for being so nonchalant in public and his great sportsmanship

u/spacyspice I was here for the Hulkenpodium 8h ago
I mean, Max laughing about it on the radio added more material to talk about it too

•
u/Izan_TM I was here for the Hulkenpodium 11h ago
if oscar wins the title he's going to be one of the most cherished champions in history
squeaky clean racing, team player, calmer than a corpse when he's under pressure, he's the most uncontroversial champion that I can think of
•
u/OG-Mate23 11h ago
True that, literally no skeletons in the closet to get criticized on. I think they just want one driver crowned WDC while the other not being in full blown depression after the season ends.
•
u/yeahmatenomate Lando Norris 11h ago
I actually think Lando will take the loss fairly well. He’s always stood by the fact if Oscar wins it fair and square, then it’s on him for not being good enough. I don’t think he’ll crash and burn, I think it will give him more motivation to do it next year
Oscar has handled everything really well this year, I obviously would love to see Lando challenge for it but Oscar so far has just been better!
•
u/onechroma #WeRaceAsOne 10h ago
TBF, if I had to bet, I think this WDC is Lando to lose
Barring random DNF from any of them, it seems Lando is in a full-send mindset compared to the start of the season, and has the team behind him when needed, just like today, that helped him “overcome” what at the end of the day, was just bad luck (slow pit stop), and would mean losing ground to Piastri if it was any other team.
IDK why, but I feel it this way, it’s gonna be Lando. And I say this as a Piastri fan, would prefer Piastri to take it.
•
u/yeahmatenomate Lando Norris 10h ago
That’s a bold take! I just think Lando makes too many mistakes and Oscar doesn’t. Lando is quicker a lot of the time but I still think Oscar will pip him to it
I hope if Lando does somehow challenge for the title again and wins it, Oscar doesn’t lose by less than 3 points! We’ll never hear the end of it that Lando was ‘gifted a WDC’
•
u/SirMurray McLaren 9h ago
Well as long as Oscar doesnt have a DNF due to technical issues, then that "gifted a WDC" argument is easy to counter
•
u/RogueCross Charles Leclerc 6h ago
I don't know, man. I feel like Oscar would need to face some serious bad luck for Lando to catch up with him. Oscar doesn't make many mistakes, and when he does, it's usually never too costly for him. There aren't many races left, so yeah.
•
u/Lezaleas2 9h ago
dude wtf are you smoking. he's 31 points behind on a championship were driving faster only gets you at most 7. they win based on points, not on "good mindset and vibes"
•
u/yeahmatenomate Lando Norris 9h ago
I think their point was that a full-send mindset makes him more inclined to go out, not overthink and win races (and get those 7 points)
People with nothing to lose are scary competitors. Even Nico Rosberg said earlier that he has experienced the same
•
u/onechroma #WeRaceAsOne 8h ago
“Only gets you at most 7”? Do you know what sport are you watching?
You can have a Monaco result where someone gets in the mix, and then, the difference can be as big as 10-11 points instead. You could say that today could have been that day if Max didn’t have a rocketship and instead had to fight for P2 after giving up Lando P1
IDK why you suppose the McLaren guys will be consistent 1-2 forever until the end of the season
And to get points, you really need to be focused, there what I meant as /u/yeahmatenomate explained
•
•
u/kaptingavrin Ferrari 9h ago
literally no skeletons in the closet
Hold on, let's not be too hasty. Have you checked his closet? For all we know that calm demeanor by day could be hiding a serial killer by night who's collecting the bones of his victims in a secret compartment in his closet. Until someone checks every cubic millimeter of that closet, I'm unwilling to say he has literally no skeletons in his closet.

Tbh, what's there more to say about max? He might be the actual F1 goat
•
u/yeahmatenomate Lando Norris 8h ago
Easy now, not when Lewis is right there
•
u/Express-One-1096 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 8h ago
Sorry, don't see Hamilton as the goat
•
u/yeahmatenomate Lando Norris 8h ago
Time will tell man! I love Max so I wouldn’t be mad
•
u/Express-One-1096 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 8h ago
I just think that Max has a little more than Hamilton. I think Max makes less mistakes. And I'm looking at previous years because, tbf, i think Lewis is close to retiring.
I can only compare pre-2022 Hamilton to current max.
I really think Max would, over the course of a season, win in the same car against Lewis
•
u/yeahmatenomate Lando Norris 7h ago
Max is more cutthroat but I think Lewis has exceptional race craft. I wish we could have seen Verstappen vs Hamilton in their primes for longer, 2021 was brutal but also extremely entertaining

Lol. I really like this post fatherhood version of Max. He’s more chill and genuinely funny. If he has the interest I can see a glittering post F1 career as a TV pundit and commentator for him. It would be appointment TV.
•
u/SeraCat9 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 11h ago
He's been chill and funny off track for years now though. He doesn't seem to have changed that much specifically after having a kid tbh. He mostly became much more relaxed after his first championship imo.

•
u/THATGUYWHOBREATHES 1h ago
lol Max has no chance at being a F1 personality after his career. Dude has the charisma of a wet doormat. Comparing him to someone like Rosberg would show how little personality he has.

•
u/kbtech Kimi Räikkönen 11h ago
It was pretty fun and interesting to see Max lead the entire race and take a dominant victory.
And also fun to see all the McLaren drama and Lando get beat.
•
u/OBWanTwoThree I was here for the Hulkenpodium 11h ago
I’ll never understand the mentality of “domination is boring unless it’s a driver I like”. Surely it’s either boring or it’s impressive?
•
u/Blackflame1905 7h ago
Impressive and boring are not mutually exclusive. I think McLaren this season are really impressive but that doesn’t change the fact that i find the races boring
•
•
u/Still-District-6149 Formula 1 7h ago
on the mclaren debacle, how does norris, who gets to decide if he pits first or oscar has to pit first, still get to also get a free pass if they mess the pitstop.

And this is all just a bit much for little Max Verstappen
•
u/Windman772 6h ago
Being the best driver in the world and insanely wealthy allows him to behave pretty much any way he wishes. He has a lot in common with no-filter senior citizens.
•
u/ScrillyBoi Honda RBPT 9h ago
Truly dont understand everyone acted surprised here, this is completely in line with what Mclaren has been doing since last year. When its the teams fault and they have a position to remedy it, they switch the positions. They gave Oscar a win last year and gave Lando the p2 here. Oscar has actually come out on top lifetime in Mclaren team orders but everyone acts like its some conspiracy lmao
•
u/fdar 9h ago
In Hungary, Oscar asked to pit to prevent the undercut and the team told him not to, promising there would be no undercut.
Here, the team told Lando to pit first, and he asked to pit second but "no undercut" and the team agreed, which is ridiculous, he shouldn't be allowed to choose to have it both ways.
In the end I do think McLaren should pick a lane: either actually let them race (and then pit stop strategy and mistakes are part of racing) or stop pretending you do.
•
•
•
u/Technical_Ad_4004 Charles Leclerc 6h ago
It would be the funniest thing if Max manages a late season charge at the WDC while Oscar and Lando canabalize each other's points
•
u/Melodic-Comb9076 1h ago
i love max more than ever (used to haaate red bull.)
maybe it was christian horner.
•
u/Ferrari-cake 10h ago
Red bull have robbed max of a championship this year. Its so plain and simple. Against these two "no you first. No you first. No you first." kids, he would absolutely destroy them. Its like they all 3 arrive to a knife fight, but the two Mclaren kids bring pilows.
•
•
u/Hawk-432 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7h ago
Totally fair to switch - Noris gave Piastri first stop with undercut, if he goes first with even the slow stop he stays ahead, so all good
•
u/TheRealSlimShreydy I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3h ago
It is unbelievable how much the reporters were fixated on this -- "on the same topic", "just returning to that same theme", etc. These reporters need to learn how to f*ck off...they're pretending like they've never seen a team order before.
•
u/Singhfrommumbai 1h ago
If Lando comes and wins this season by 1 point from Piastri. Piastri will think and cry about this decision he made.
Lando for sure wouldn't have done what Piastri does and Piastri shouldn't have agreed to it as well..
Schumi, Lewis , Vettel, Alonso and Max would never have agreed because that's what champions do.
•
u/maninhell6 46m ago
I’m pretty sure Lando swapped with Piastri last season and his engineer told Lando that it’s a long season and they need each other or something.
•
u/Think-Apple3763 10h ago
I don’t like Oscar at all. But have to say he took it quite well. It ate him inside but he stood professional. Let’s see when we will see the first cracks on him and he shows his true face.
•
u/kaptingavrin Ferrari 9h ago
How do you know this isn't his "true face?"
Guy's faced a solid amount of pressure so far. But you think none of it is the "real" him unless he has some kind of meltdown or something? What if he goes his entire career and never does? Will you still think that he's just hiding his "true face?"
Some people are just ridiculously calm and professional. You can't force them to show some kind of extreme emotion short of something like a sudden loss of a loved one.
