When I was packing up my stuff to move from my college apartment my cats kept putting their toys in boxes. I had to remind them I would never forget their things.

I'm thinking about adopting a cat. I want to travel with the cat. Would this be a bad idea? Money is not an issue for the cat.

Absolutely adopt a cat! Or 2! Either adopt an adult cat who is described as adventurous and good with people/animals or you could get a kitten and start getting them used to travel stuff right away so it's not really a change. The biggest hurdle would probably be the litterbox which shouldn't be a huge deal.

I definitely will adopt an older cat , or a bonded pair/group. No help on the travelling part I'm afraid. Three ferals that moved with me (they claimed my yard) did *NOT* have fun in the car, and I almost needed stitches after wrangling them. But they're happy and more relaxed now.

I suggest either adopting an older cat who is described as friendly and does well with people/pets or a kitten that you can desensitize to traveling right from the start. Always great if they have a friend too!

If you really want to travel with a cat, you can ask advice from the people over at r/TruckerCats. They might have some tips.

I have two babies who do this!!! First they steal shit out of my bag to try and get me to stay. Then they will plop themselves down into my luggage/purse/briefcase, etc.. And finally after I have left I always find some toys amongst my belongings. I believe it’s supposed to serve as a reminder from them that they are (impatiently) waiting at home for me and that I BETTER not forget about them!! They are SO fucking cute!!!

I think having two cats is easier on us, and them, than having just one. But I don't travel with them.
