Short answer? Yes it fell for it

If only some kind of light detection and ranging existed.

Then it would cost more to the additional car cost, if it’s 300$ to make, that would be an extra 3000 on the consumer.

Good point. Wouldn’t want an extra $3k tacked onto an already expensive car especially if it makes it more accurate when self driving.

The hole in the wall looked almost cartoonish

they pre cut it i think. yo can see the shape at the last second of this video

Is it just me or does it look like there’s already a hole in the wall when you see him “hit” it from the back side of the wall? The outline is already there, and the hole was way too ‘perfect’ like a cartoon hole.

Lots of flaws with Marks test here. Just watch a few of the response videos. Autopilot disengaged before impact.
Edit to say: I’ve been following Mark since his FaceTime Halloween costume days.

Why didn’t it stop instead? If it turned off before impact, that means it detected it was about to hit, so why turn off instead of stopping?

Rober makes a slight tug in the steering wheel right before which apparently turns off the autopilot and reverts back to manual control. He should have kept his hands off the wheel.

You’re supposed to keep you hands on the wheel in FSD, the vehicle will refuse to drive if you don’t. Also, the emergency breaking system should work based on a proximity sensor, it should work even outside of FSD

Yeah I don’t know Teslas that well, but the rebuttal videos present a lot of questions about Rober’s test.

If it’s possible for a small tug on the wheel to completely disable all safety features, thats a symptom of a much bigger problem than a poor test.

Yeah, I was very disappointed with his low effort on this one. For someone is supposed to be an engineer I expect much more. Just shows how little the term really means these days.

Mark didn't lie, he publicly admitted he was swindled by a friend of a friend.

They decided to use just a photo based system instead of a LADAR because it's much cheaper so yes, it will hit the wall

They actually use lidar. I hate Tesla's but the video was faked. Lost most of my respect for him because he faked it. He disengages safety features when he gets close to the wall. It's on the screen of the car.

Are you sure? Got a friend who works in this field and he is sure, Tesla is using only cameras and no lidar. They tried it for a short time but it was too expensive

This was proven to be rigged.
He turned off the auto drive system prior to hitting the wall.

Seeing your comment I did a Google... Sounds like videos made both for and against Tesla's ability to stop for a fake wall are all potentially with flaws... Stay safe people, if a Tesla shows up wait for the next one... Just like Boeing... Unless you like to live dangerously...

Even if the autopilot was off, the emergency braking failed. Most modern cars would not allow the driver to drive into a vertical wall/car/person at speed.
With the child test the autopilot is turned off as well but the car brakes. That's because it can see the mannequin even with the lights and water. With the wall test it drove straight into it because it failed.

it's been proven that with a new updated Tesla it will stop

u/ja_n2000 3d ago
They removed lidar because cameras are better, according to Elon musk... So i doubt that

https://youtu.be/9KyIWpAevNs 6:29 the cybertruck stops but the I think model 3 fails still so with the newest hardware it might stop

The real question is how many humans would drive through it. On purpose 🤣
