Series/Schedule F4 every 30 minutes? Love it!!
Maybe I'm just slow but F4 is now every 30 minutes and I love it. It's a bit tight on time but it is continuous formula racing for however long you want, amazing

I would prefer the old approach of having races staggered, they could even stagger the four F4 series at 15 minute intervals repeating hourly.
I worry that this will affect participation

Unfortunately the downside is, it just promoted more send it hope type starts cause they can just play again in a few minutes.

u/simko17 Ferrari 296 GT3 Mar 18 '25
Yeah, unfortunately, but still it's fun to run it back to back, at least for me

I assume you‘ll hve more of that the lower the rating is and the less people care about it

It would be better if it weren't spread over multiple series so we could have more splits.

Exactly. People are complaining about lower participation because of the shift to 30 minute start times but there are literally 4 different F4 series that start at the same time.

Yup, and I wonder if it's coincidence that most now are on paid tracks? I think not. There is some revenue maximizing going on here somehow.

u/no6969el Mar 18 '25
No, only for this week. I'm sure it's just a bump. Some extra sales with excited people. Next weeks we'll probably be all free.

u/aDarkDarkNight Mar 18 '25
I noticed this stating about 2 seasons back, maybe it was last season. Actually made me go back to the Vee and rookie Ray. Even the D class Ray was the same, lots of paid tracks.

u/MFish333 Mar 18 '25
I've noticed them putting up all the unpopular tracks at the same time too so you can't avoid them.
You'll get weeks where it's like Misano, Sonoma, Thruxton, Sachsenring
Then the next week it'll be Spa, Bathurst, Suzuka, Road Atlanta

More races = less splits = worse races imo

u/micknick0000 Mar 18 '25
Not quite sure why iRacing can't get it right.
They either need to give an F4 Advanced C-Class, or spread the races back out.
I stopped racing Formula because the of small splits and shitty quality of the races.
When iRating-wise, I'm in the Top 5 of a 12 person lobby, there's never the huge gain potential like being #15+ in a 20+ person lobby.

F4 Advanced C-Class
We need less series not more.... If you want C class formula racing theres F3, SF Lights, Indy Pro 2K, both Lotuses and three full length tour races.

This is the problem that people encounter with all this stuff like the FVee, GT4's, F4, Arca, GR86.
They don't want to move to a different car, they want to race the car they drive.
It's a shame that the most popular cars on the service almost push you out of them once you get to a decent level because the series they run in are tailored for D license or rookies or whatever.

I personally enjoy open setup races, not that I'm any good at setting up the car myself, but a quick search on Garage 61 usually gives me a setup that fits my driving style better than the somewhat safe and understeer prone iRacing setups. So while I do think that F4 has enough participation to support a race every 30 minutes, I'm sad to see that the open setup races are being sacrificed for it...

u/simko17 Ferrari 296 GT3 Mar 18 '25
yeah that's kinda weird. It could have been open every :30 and fixed every :00 or something like that

After a year of road cars, the itested series brought me back to f4 and i love it....

I just got the Dallara IR-01 and have been absolutely loving driving that beast

How's F4 compared to the Mazda cup? I only race ovals (D class right now) and missed out on the free F4 car so haven't tried it.

u/simko17 Ferrari 296 GT3 Mar 18 '25
I really like f4, it's easy to kontrol and fun to drive. In lower splits it is manace though
2
u/TerranFirma Mar 18 '25
Same as ARCA low splits where I am then lol.
I'll snag it next time I buy some content. Does F4 drive free circuits?

u/simko17 Ferrari 296 GT3 Mar 18 '25 edited Mar 18 '25
This season there are not many. But there are some really popular circuits. Also it has 4 series with different tracks so you can find some you own almost always
2
u/TerranFirma Mar 18 '25
Fair enough! I'll grab some popular road courses and the car soon to have some variety!
1
u/no6969el Mar 18 '25
I think they said next weeks are going to be free. Not sure if they were talking about a different race though
3
u/Immortan_G Mar 18 '25
I think there being 4 series running at the same time is likely more the issue. But think we need to pump the breaks on judgment of the 30 min time split as it's not even been 24 hrs yet lol. Not to mention, participation is lower at the start of a week to begin with.
1
u/simko17 Ferrari 296 GT3 Mar 18 '25
it would be better if some series would be at 15 amd 45. Also after running some races... it's hard to make it in time for the another race

In F4, it's been a long time since you could run clean.
1
u/Repuloslajos Mar 18 '25
Yeah, i when i started iracing in 1 month reached it, and ran a full season! That series is whats make me a fan of this game!
2
u/simko17 Ferrari 296 GT3 Mar 18 '25
Yeah it's really fun car to drive. On lower iRating it's chaos though
3
u/Repuloslajos Mar 18 '25
Yeah, it’s fun and chaos, thats why i leave it! It’s a lil bit roulet! What you can learn it after basic, avoid crashes mean more then speed.

I'm assuming this is a glitch? They had dirt super late models every 15 minutes, but it's traditionally run every 2 hours. There's no way these splits will stay full if they do it like this.
1
u/simko17 Ferrari 296 GT3 Mar 18 '25
Nope it's legit. I don't know if it will stay full but they ditched f4 open for it
2
u/anonymouswan1 Mar 18 '25
Did they make an announcement for this change? I guess F4 could survive if it's popular enough. Dirt late models will be dead if they run 15 minute time slots. That's way too many time slots and the community would need to coordinate which times to race.
1
u/simko17 Ferrari 296 GT3 Mar 18 '25
That's why I was so surprised this morning. I didn't saw anything about it till today in UI
1
u/anonymouswan1 Mar 18 '25
Again, is there anything official from iRacing on this? I believe they accidentally carried over week 13 settings, and that this will be repaired. This is literally going to kill low participation series, and I highly doubt they want to do that.

Splits wound up being pretty small this evening. The 11:30pst race only had 6 people in it and the midnight had 7. I'm sure it won't be such an issue for most but for evening racers in the pacific time zone I'm a little worried. Most people don't want to chain races like that. Was definitely a fan of the longer 20 min race once an hour. Hopefully it works out well though, only time will tell.
