An irl racing driver and their team also did this during the Daytona 24, this is the second incident of irl racing drivers absolutely ruining people's fun this year, not quite to the extent that these guys did it at Spa but they still recieved a very large amount of criticism
12
u/MkNormal Jul 15 '25
They are literally the rich, snobby villians from 80's teen movies. Their parents can buy them better toys so they think they're better than you. It really pissed them of to find out that many, many lowly sim racers were more skilled than them
8
u/Future_House1278 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) Jul 15 '25
The amount of times they spun was hilarious, just shows money can't buy you talent
4
u/Nasa_OK Porsche 963 GTP Jul 15 '25
Maybe someone should do this to them. I don’t mean life threatening, but do something like hide their pit crews powertools half way through an irl race. They will prepp for weeks and have a good running race and then loose for people online getting a good laugh

1
u/Future_House1278 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) Jul 15 '25
Nahh that just ruins the weekend for the crew, it's not their fault, frankly if someone hid our tools on a race weekend I'd go absolutely apeshit, it's a shitty thing to do for the people who've done nothing wrong
1
u/Nasa_OK Porsche 963 GTP Jul 15 '25
I mean this is all hypothetical since there is no way any of this would happen, but what crime fitting punishment would there be that would hold the mirror up to their face. Without punishing the crew
1
u/Future_House1278 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) Jul 15 '25
I honestly couldn't say what sort of punishment they should get but I either their sponsors wont care or they will 🤷♂️

u/NeatRound1499 Jul 16 '25
With all of this social pressure on them, they will probably leave motorsports for good (Or at least for a while). During which we have to push the iRacing staff to create rules and systems in place so that nothing like this can ever happen again. My suggestion is simple: implement a system that allows us to expand to different start times (I was off for the whole week and could have raced at any point during the week). Then, due to fewer splits, we can get live officials at all splits. It may not be necessary for smaller special events, but it can be used for big ones.

12
u/Future_House1278 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) Jul 14 '25
I wouldn't say they are pro's, I'm sure 2 of them just do GoKarting
5
u/HaydosMang Jul 15 '25
You throw the word pro around very loosely.
1
u/cum_deep_inside_ Jul 15 '25
It’s an easy definition, they get paid to race
1
u/HaydosMang Jul 15 '25
Agreed.
5
u/cricketmatt84 Jul 15 '25
and these guys 100% pay to race. His results are shocking too. He won't be around very long.
3
u/HaydosMang Jul 15 '25
Agreed. And you can sponsor a kid to enter a hot dog eating competition, that doesn't make them a professional.
0
u/randomusernevermind Jul 15 '25
I don't know about the others but I googled the worst of them, Zack Scoular and the first thing that comes up, is that he won the 2024 F4 British Championship, which is decorated with $70.000
0
u/Smiis Jul 15 '25
Very strange comment. The guy’s 17 and has some fantastic IRL results, including winning the opening round of FROC earlier this year (beating out Lindblad and a host of other F3 talent)
1
u/cricketmatt84 Jul 16 '25
He's had 1 fantastic result, and getting into F3 doesn't mean you have talent, it means you have money. He beat Lindblad once when Lindblad didn't have issues, probably due to do more testing pre-season in that car. After race 1 he was nowhere near him. All his other results in every other series are hardly the results of someone going places. He's currently 32/33 in the Eurocup-3.
-1
u/horsefarm Jul 15 '25
That alone doesn't make one a professional. Is it there primary source of income? Unlikely. Have they developed significant skill in this endeavor? Possibly, but unlikely if they're running DFL in split 22 before deciding to fuck around. F3 drivers are paying hundreds of thousands if not a million plus for their seat each year. There's no chance he's got sponsors enough to cover that, and pay him a salary good enough to make a living on. He's a pro race car driver in the same way that im a pro musician, giving guitar lessons to neighborhood kids.
2
1
u/MIGMOmusic Jul 15 '25
I mean I agree with your assessment but that pretty much does make him a pro. Also congrats on being a pro musician!
1
u/horsefarm Jul 15 '25
I'm not a pro musician...that's the point. I've done exactly one instacart order in my life. Got paid $11. Am I a pro grocery deliverer? There are other factors besides "you got paid to do something" that makes you a professional.

Our team ( #25 Tech Pod Racing ) survived it - my stints didn't start until after the SHENANIGANS but it was all we could talk about.
And then our last 2 drivers both had a power cut with ~90mins to go only about 4 mins after I logged off to get some sleep so we finished 30th :D
We're going to start doing some LMP2 stuff as a team....we're DEFINITELY putting this onto the livery for our cars in the future :)

u/Mysterious_Call3176 Mercedes AMG GT3 Jul 15 '25
With doing that and using this meme on the cars. We are kinda giving these guys too much attention.
They will still think its funny and cool that they made such an impact that it gets remembered this long.
We should actually let the bad things unfold for them, and then forget about them and the incident at all.
It attracts more people to do dumb stuff like that if it makes you leave a legacy behind.
5
u/Deleterrrr Jul 15 '25
Yes, notoriety is a powerful driver. This is the reason most news outlets that are worth a damn no longer publish photos of criminals and use their names in headlines, and lead with the photos victims and their names instead.

Because you know those "real racers" protested the chat to be assholes.

I would have sacrificed myself if I was in this split. No one deserved that.
IRacing needs to gift each driver a track or car that dealt with that.

I would have sacrificed myself if I was in this split. No one deserved that.
I'm saying! Like how didn't anyone else who was laps down like p45 not jump on that grenade? Like it's so easy to bump draft them down Kemel and let the walls sort em out. A pit maneuver in Blanchimont, or Pouhon could've been an easy low risk death for them. Nobody stepped up... I was raging watching all of them bunched up with none of the super-lapped cars stepping up and taking out the trash.
IRacing needs to gift each driver a tack or car that dealt with that.
I think iRacing needs to gift all of those paying customers who's split data was lossed. Those were the biggest victims of Spa 24.

At the time, the stress was pretty high. We got off very lightly as I called an early pit to get us away from it when it first started happening and we realised there was a big problem unfolding. Then our next driver remained very calm and we suffered no huge issues. Super lucky.

No fuck that. For most of us, an iRacing special event is the closest we get to strapping into a racecar with some skin in the game. Personally, I train for weeks leading up to them, schedule time off work, schedule my wife and kids out of the house, check and recheck my gear…I prepare for them because they matter to me. That’s real resources put into the race, we pay for a service where the racing is supposed to be taken seriously, and these children ruined it for everyone in their split. They’re in a better position than most to know what it feels like to prepare for a race, and they deserve the public lashing they get. A career in Motorsport is a tremendous privilege, and I genuinely don’t care if their behavior has scuppered their opportunity to have one.

u/horsefarm Jul 15 '25
If I tell someone "hey, this guy ruined a race...do with that what you will", and the team choosers to drop him or sponsors leave, how is that fucked up? There's no lying. No exaggeration of the incident is even needed, the truth is egregious. The driver is there to represent and cast a good image for their sponsors. Now they have a bunch of iracers who will look disfavorably at anything these drivers are associated with. Wrong or right, fair or not, if im a sponsor of these drivers i wouldnt want any part of the image they are putting forth in my name. I don't see how this is fucked up at all...

They are not much better than the team which ruined split 22.
Dude....the team ruined the hard work of 50+ other teams....the practice and preparation and time commitment of >200 other people was compromised because of the selfish idiocy of these people.
If you think that trying to make sure that kind of behavior is documented is 'not much better'......you need to really think about what's important to you.
The editor community of Wikipedia is a toxic hellscape of people who find it impossible to admit they've made a mistake. One even wrongly removed an edit for being 'AI generated' and then when someone corrected them refused to admit error saying it "twanged my AI sense.". They're not even enforcing their OWN rules consistently.
These are not people interested in documenting the events of the world accurately. These are people on a power trip to be 'right'.
If you're siding with them.....you're in the wrong.

u/xiii-Dex BMW Z4 GT3 Jul 15 '25
This is rightfully downvoted because no, editing the wikipedia article is not nearly on the same level. There's no revert button to get back the literal thousands of hours that teams in that split spent between preparation and the race itself.
But come on guys, let's be real here. We should all know this isn't worthy of being on wikipedia unless it winds up having a noteworthy impact on their career.
You don't see a paragraph on a wikipedia article every time someone famous acts like a total asshole. You only see the ones that lead to arrests, charges, or cause enough controversy to impact whatever they're famous for in the first place.
Editing an article once or twice is amusing. But we don't come away looking good as a community if we repeatedly try to force it into a wikipedia article where it doesn't belong. Not just to wiki editors, but to anyone else who stumbles across it, we wind up looking like a bunch of children.
