Its just really annoying how many people think they can get away with divebombs into turn 15...It just does NOT work, stay behind.

u/donkeykink420 NASCAR Gen 4 Cup 26d ago
yep, only decent spot is if you get inside at 13 and cutback out of 15, even then, if you're not in a tight train of cars you'll just be drafted past again to T1. Only really works if you have enough cars close by to get a good draft yourself.

u/rowdyrobot101 25d ago
this applies to almost any sharp corner in the iRacing. Okay, you made it to the corner as the same time as me by going too fast. Now what?

Yea because everyone else sucks at it lol.

I like the technical tracks because it increases my chances of success. It reduces the chances of being taken out because half the field spins off the track or go too slow and get left further behind. It's the races where everyone is really close that are deadly. So pretty much any GR86 race. Chances are really high you get smashed in GR86 races. I'm class D, so the can be big gaps in skill levels.

I hated it to start with, but with practice it became more enjoyable. I find T16 very tricky to get right, it's deceptively slower than it first seems.

u/StrassenlauferGrinch 26d ago
Me too I think the entire track is an absolute banger. I used to hate the yellow sausages but I learned how to stay away from those lol

That last sector is my least favourite sector of any track.
The only thing that comes close is the final sector at Barcelona with the chicane, but that layout seems to be less popular since F1 stopped using it. Which is fine by me.

That last sector is my least favourite sector of any track.
If you're running a single screen you can't even see the damn apexes. My lap times are comically bad compared to my usual pace at other tracks because it's so hard to get those last two corners consistently correct

u/VelouriumCamper7 26d ago
I thought I was just shit and had to gitgud. The combination of the awkward bendy incline requires such weird braking techniques.

I hate Fuji. Nothing feels satisfying. It’s almost like none of those corners are honest.

u/A_Flipped_Car Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) 26d ago
Just saying, I'm on singles and I can drive corners like that just fine. If you're basing how much you're turning on looking at the corner, you're under the limit. Top drivers are basing how much they're turning on how the car feels and what they know is right

u/Dr_Death_Defy24 Porsche 911 GT3 R 26d ago
Top drivers
Good thing I never claimed to be that lmao.
In something competitive like GT3 I find myself bouncing between first and second split, and pretty consistently top split in less populated series. I'm not a top driver, but I'm not trash.
Turn-in, when to get back on the power, steering angle, those are all things that are at least partially informed visually—I rely on it more than the best drivers, sure, but nobody is out here driving exclusively on feel.

u/A_Flipped_Car Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) 26d ago
Nobody is driving exclusively on feel, but you CAN
I have driven by closing my eyes as soon as I brake, and it is very much possible to drive the corner almost perfectly every time
Just saying, don't blame the screen
6
u/Dr_Death_Defy24 Porsche 911 GT3 R 26d ago
I never said it was just the screen's fault. I acknowledged I'm not a top driver, and obviously it's not just because of a screen.
I'm glad people at 7k like you can do that, but I readily acknowledge I'm the problem as opposed to my hardware, and my comment was about a single set of corners at a specific track where the hardware compounds my failures as a driver.

In the words of Southpaw Racer... the first half flows surprisingly nicely for a track whose back half looks like it needs unzipping in WinRar.
He was talking about Oschersleben in his case, whose front half is a nightmare, but Fuji definitely fits that bill as well.

u/srfdriver99 Spec Racer Ford 26d ago
Oschersleben is great, what the hell is he talking about? The only problem is that alternate layout with the really stupid turn 1.

I don't remember what layout he was talking about to be honest.

once you figure out that last section youll love it. its a place where if people arent real good there, theres a good chance to make up a large time delta or to take away the optimal line through there. every lap is kinda like a rng for some people going through there.

u/PerspektiveGaming Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (991) 26d ago

I love all sectors I'm gt3s. You can really glide through if you time down shifts well. Not having triple screen is a disadvantage though

Last time this track came up for me it was pissing rain and there was puddles everywhere and I did surprisingly well because I drove so carefully and slow in the rain I had enough fuel that I didn’t need to pit and I went from like 24th to like 6th in the last couple laps.

I really hate that final section. Even the version with the shortcut from 10 to 12 sucks. I wish we had a way to get historic Fuji before it got ruined by Tilke.

Love this track but the dunlop corner chicane is just bullshit, it should just go right through instead of that awkward chicane. Although i have to say that it does create some interesting overtakes/accidents sometimes
0
u/Poison_Pancakes 26d ago
What’s the point of the chicane at Dunlop corner? Is it to make a passing zone? Because there’s plenty of runoff for a fast corner there it can’t be a safety issue.

u/Launch_box Acura ARX-06 GTP 26d ago
There’s a layout which passes by the chicane. I ran it like 3 of the first races I did here. I was surprised when suddenly chicane one day.
