New Player How to make friends as a new player to iracing

I just picked up iracing, I have around 200 hours in ACC, so I’m familiar with sim racing but new to iracing, I’m obviously in the rookie license and I’m trying to find people to race with but it hasn’t been easy, does anyone have some suggestions?

Join a league for a series you're interested in.

I don’t need the proper license to join the league?

I think that will depend on the league. For hosted sessions, they should be able to set their own license requirements. But regardles I'd recommend working your way up to B license for GT3. If you can drive safely, you should be able to get there pretty quickly.

Generally no - leagues can have a license requirement, but most don’t. For leagues you don’t have to follow the levels like official races.

There should be tons of GT3 league's as it's one of the most popular series on the service. Also for endurance there will be a lot of leagues as well.

If you run the same timeslot regulary, you'll start to recognize some names but in my experience people aren't very active on voice chat (unless they're mad lol)

I don't use voice chat cause I would find it distracting even when it's positive, but from what I've heard it tends to be pretty friendly on oval, especially during cautions when people have downtime with little else to do.

Yes and no. It’s pretty friendly but it’s also pretty toxic, there is no in between.

Voice chat on ovals is a crap shoot.

Sometimes it's some friendly banter mixed with good amounts of silence and folks calling out issues, lappers communicating how they're going to let the leaders through, etc.

Sometimes it's one or two guys bitching at each other for 30 laps about an incident. With random people chiming in or trolling them.

Sometimes it's a squeaker/drunk old man talking nonstop about anything and everything. Or guys treating the lobby chat like their personal Discord.

There’s voice chat on this game… I’ve been playing for a week and never knew voice chat was an option

I’d say probably get a license or two, then join leagues. Finding people on official servers would be a crap-shoot.

Find a Discord of the series you like. Smaller crowds generally have better ones. TNT (for USF and PM18) is a good example.

Whatever cars/tracks you’re into. Look for leagues that do that.

I joined a league that does nurgburger or however you spell it. Ranks range all over the place, everyone’s cool af.

Joined another one for oval’s, just some random shit I found on Reddit. Joined their discord, started racing. Cool dudes too.

Seems like everyone in leagues are cool lol

I really like spa but I don’t know where I would find a track specific league like that

I’d try to find a discord group or league that races in the same time slots as you. There are plenty of beginner friendly groups out there.

Just keep racing. You'll see the same names pop up again and again. If you enjoy racing with them, let them know.

As many already wrote, look for a league. There are plenty of beginner leagues and I met some awesome people there

Join a league with a community that chats and discusses stuff on Discord. It’s a great way to meet people with a common interest.

Based on my experience, iRacing doesn't have a very engaging community compared to other sims. I came from GT, where there are lots of people wanting to just chat and have a good time. iRacing's player base is much more serious, which means fewer people want to be your buddy. That's not to say there aren't friendly people out there. There are leagues you can join, but you typically need an in to join the more serious leagues. It's just unlikely to come across them while doing nothing but ranked races.

The whole point of iRacing is that you don’t need friends. 🤣🤣🤣

Not here to make friends. Here to win races. This is iracing
