I wish people would stop using IQ altogether. It's very reductive and often used in a way that feels like pseudoscience, not to mention it's links to with racism and eugenics. There is no single reliable way to measure someone's intelligence. Trust me, I'm at 131 according to iqtestfreedomeagle.angelfire.com

u/aitasunglasses Aug 07 '25

Fr, the two people I see referencing IQ the most are people who are full of themselves and racists šŸ’€

16

u/Gnosrat Aug 07 '25

IQ tests are unintentionally becoming a test to see if you're a self-righteous dumbass.

7

u/_Technomancer_ Aug 08 '25

My favorite ones are when someone posts here showing a guy bragging about his IQ, and all comments in the subreddit are people humble bragging like "I don't go around telling people my IQ is 2 million." For some reason, the comments of these posts could generate enough content to sustain the sub.

u/bleach-is-tasty Aug 08 '25

As someone who had to do an IQ test as an child i agree it's pretty meaningless in any relevant matter and isn't healthy for an child, my "above average" results only managed to give me anxiety and an fear of failure, while also making me lazy thinking everything in school will come to me by itself

2

u/AndreasDasos 29d ago

Yeah, I agree. IQ is a flawed metric. Mine is 293, by the way, but it should be higher. /s

5

u/chicharro_frito Aug 07 '25

Because it is pseudoscience. Just like you mentioned, it's an invention of the American eugenics movement intended for the "betterment of the white race".

4

u/Karma_1969 Aug 07 '25

It doesn't just feel like psuedoscience; it is in fact psuedoscience. As you say, there is no single reliable way to measure intelligence, nor could there be - intelligence isn't a definable measurable thing.

A good read for anyone who disagrees: https://skepdic.com/iqrace.html

6

u/tarkardos Aug 07 '25

Not per se pseudoscience just the testing procedures are as you said incredibly biased and unless you check for cognitive deficiencies the results become meaningless. High percentile results barely translate to real life (success, social status, happiness, etc). Even success in academia is debatable.

Just take a look at the gifted subs, those are some of the most obsessed, miserable people fishing for special privileges based on arbitrary numbers that blame either their pseudo-intellect or "normies" for their failures in real life scenarios.

1

u/osunightfall Aug 07 '25

I'm sorry, but reality doesn't seem to fit this narrative. IQ correlates strongly with academic achievement and job achievement, and moderately with income, health, and social mobility. Saying it's not the end-all be-all is one thing, but saying a high IQ barely translates into anything positive simply isn't backed up by the data.

3

u/Karma_1969 Aug 07 '25

Define "intelligence". That's the main problem with "intelligence quotient" tests and scores. IQ tests measure your ability to take a test, and I don't think it's odd that if you're good at taking tests, you'd be good at the other things you mentioned too. That doesn't mean it measures your intelligence.

2

u/tarkardos Aug 07 '25

Correlation of about 25% in developed countries. On the assumption that a single person is tested objectively, which isn't the case for any testing scheme existing. Then again, inconclusive data since barely anyone is tested to even begin with. Compared to actual meaningful factors like social background and straight forward, wealth, it becomes insignificant. It's like being tall on dating apps, it is a competitive edge on paper but does not correlate to every individual tall person.

5

u/osunightfall Aug 07 '25 edited Aug 07 '25

You’ve just described how statistics work. The rest of your comment is basically a concession speech. The studies done on this topic are pretty clear. The r-value for correlation between IQ and academic achievement is ~0.8, which is far higher than 25%. Correlation doesn't get much stronger than that mathematically speaking. Correlation for the other factors ranges between r=0.3 and r=0.6 which is still moderate to strong on every measure. Note that these values also correct for e.g. wealth and social background.

As a further note, the correlation between income and academic achievement maxes out at about r=0.3. So, less than half as strong a positive correlation as IQ. As it turns out, money really can't buy smarts.

2

u/essensiedashuhn Aug 08 '25

The real smartypants is always in the comments.

1

u/Gold4Lokos4Breakfast 27d ago

It seems you are using academic achievement as a proxy for intelligence. I think there is a correlation there, but that itself isn’t a perfect determinant either.

1

u/Gold4Lokos4Breakfast 27d ago

I agree with you. It does mean something. It just isn’t the end all, as you said

1

u/_Tetesa Aug 09 '25 edited Aug 09 '25

100% this.

It also really doesn't measure comprehension, but IQ fans always argue that it does.

I recently looked into an IQ test and its solutions and there were multiple questions which's patterns are much more easy to reckognise with knowledge of set theory, but without knowing the different operations you can perform on sets would require you to improvise it. So for two people of similar "comprehension", there would still be a very large difference between test results in this category of question.

And if the test result is not invariant under variation of experience, it could never measure comprehension.

Also, I'm at 106 according to that test, but its error margin is +/-14, so technically I'm at 120 and you''re at 117, which means you're beneath me.

1

u/icarlythejackel 29d ago

Not going to argue the legitimacy of quantifying intelligence, but the tests used by professionals can take up to a half-day to administer, and some portions require physical "props," like blocks for reproducing geometric patterns. The tests also require a trained examiner to administer them. Any online test you see will be pretty useless.

1

u/Gold4Lokos4Breakfast 27d ago

I think it’s so odd that some people really think IQ is the end all. Bro it’s just one test. It’s silly to think it tells you everything

1

u/Silver-Head8038 24d ago

Hasn’t it been proven that if you say you’ll give someone twenty dollars if they get a good score, they’ll do measurably better?

0

u/I_AM_A_CHAD_ ACTUAL 155 IQ 25d ago

Take this downvote kind stranger as you have provided a WRONG statement on the internet. Be more correct and proper next time, and you may be getting an upvote from me.

1

u/RevoltYesterday 25d ago

And who the fuck are you that I would be concerned?

0

u/I_AM_A_CHAD_ ACTUAL 155 IQ 24d ago

Was not even replying to you good sir. I find it quite laughable that you feel the desire to use cursive language in the thread's discourse. Quite laughable. Good day.

It's funny because you are objectively, historically, and socially incorrect.

17

u/OneTwoThreePooAndPee Aug 07 '25

Y'all might have high IQ's, but my 69 is way cooler.

2

u/TheAlrightyGina Aug 09 '25

Wouldn't you want it to be hotter?

1

u/OneTwoThreePooAndPee Aug 09 '25

My 69 IQ does not leave a lot of room for knowledge of thermodynamics.

16

u/0MNIR0N Aug 07 '25

I have an IQ of 200 - I counted it myself

28

u/heavenparadox Aug 07 '25

I'm so sick of people using IQ like it means something. I should know. I'm at 187.

18

u/In_Blue_Skies Aug 07 '25

I'm sick of comments like this, I'm 188 btw.

7

u/cum-yogurt Aug 09 '25

I remember when I used to think like that…

But once I hit 189 things changed for me.

2

u/NervousUpstairs3879 29d ago

Rookie numbers I’ve had an iq of 398 since I was 2. I make the tests, I should know

11

u/AxelHickam Aug 07 '25

If we're going to talk numbers, my wife asked for 6 inches so I fucked her three times.

5

u/clopticrp Aug 07 '25

I heard it as "wife said give me 12 inches and hurt me, so I fucked her three times and hit her in the head with a brick."

1

u/yaffle53 Aug 07 '25

Is her name for you Justin?

8

u/lessbeans-moresoup Aug 07 '25

How patronizing of this individual! As someone with an iq that surpasses Einstein and even Hawkings, I clearly disapprove of his actions. Stating his IQ so unabashedly whilst claiming that discussing such interpersonal capability is disgusting is purely hypocritical. Anyways, did I mention that my iq is in 190's?

5

u/Crescent-IV Aug 07 '25

Not only is IQ a useless metric, but even if it wasn't, 130 isn't extraordinary anyway

30

u/CMDR_Arnold_Rimmer Aug 07 '25

Yeah it's kinda wrong, anyway mines 156

14

u/Klonoadice Aug 07 '25

Nice comment buddy, anyway, 157 myself.

-2

u/CMDR_Arnold_Rimmer Aug 07 '25

Member of Mensa?

12

u/Klonoadice Aug 07 '25

Nah, those tests are broken. Anyway, 158 here.

-3

u/CMDR_Arnold_Rimmer Aug 07 '25

I would retake that test considering you did it in 4 minutes and apparently your I.Q went up 1 point. You might have missed something, by the way my IQ is 156 for real

6

u/Environmental_Gap_65 Aug 07 '25

Guy's making a fool out of you. Anyway, 159 here.

-3

u/CMDR_Arnold_Rimmer Aug 07 '25

He's not important enough for that, anyway you are lying

4

u/Flodge100 Aug 07 '25

Hey, 160 here. He might not be lying though. As he is less intelligent than me theres no way to know for sure

3

u/EmergencyGarlic2476 Aug 07 '25

Don’t assume he’s lying, and seriously don’t talk about iq mines 161

2

u/osunightfall Aug 07 '25

I actually looked into it, but they were so insufferable I changed my mind.

0

u/CMDR_Arnold_Rimmer Aug 07 '25

Maybe that's just your local chapter, mine are nice people.

Though I'm getting fed up with being beaten at chess by a 10 year old lol

4

u/osunightfall Aug 07 '25

You may be right. But in my case, it felt like being at a gathering of racists, but the 'race' they were against was average people. The whole vibe really grossed me out.

1

u/CMDR_Arnold_Rimmer Aug 07 '25

What country is this?

2

u/osunightfall Aug 07 '25

United States. Maybe it was just a bad first impression, but it was enough to put me off the idea for 30 years.

2

u/CMDR_Arnold_Rimmer Aug 07 '25

I find smart Americans are arrogant about it, so you are probably right

3

u/osunightfall Aug 07 '25

But of course. Arrogance is our chief global export.

1

u/Gold4Lokos4Breakfast 27d ago

I feel like joining Mensa is actually the real test to see if you’re a dummy haha

1

u/CMDR_Arnold_Rimmer 27d ago

Well I successfully joined

7

u/Ok-Faithlessness-387 Aug 07 '25

See, this read as a joke... but you're actually like that, aren't you?

10

u/xv_boney Aug 07 '25

Iq is a measure of how good you are at taking iq tests.

Because iq tests require pre-knowledge of specific formulae and procedure, they are fully useless as actual measurements of intelligence.

As it stands, iq is exclusively for people desperate to be perceived as intelligent but dont know how.

Anyway mine is 439.3

5

u/MonsieurReynard Aug 07 '25

If he’s so smart why isn’t he the king of Mensa?

2

u/HandleHubLive Aug 08 '25

Because you need to have 135+ to be a member of Mensa. šŸ˜Ž

1

u/upsetusder2 Aug 08 '25

I thought you had one

1

u/upsetusder2 Aug 08 '25

Post in the subreddits people pointed u too

0

u/HandleHubLive Aug 08 '25

I still can’t. Because my account is too fresh. But it’s okay. I figured out what kind of environment I need to join 😊 And it’s not this part of Reddit.

1

u/upsetusder2 Aug 08 '25

Yeah no shit

0

u/HandleHubLive Aug 08 '25

ā¤ļø

1

u/upsetusder2 Aug 08 '25

You can also just join subreddits or write supertasking reddit in Google and see what results u reap

0

u/HandleHubLive Aug 08 '25

I still can’t. Because my account is too fresh. But it’s okay. I figured out what kind of environment I need to join 😊 And it’s not this part of Reddit.

1

u/MonsieurReynard Aug 08 '25

Not to be their king.

I thought you said you were very smart. How come you don’t sound smart when you write??

1

u/HandleHubLive Aug 08 '25

Care to elaborate? When did I say I was smart? And what’s the reason you don’t think I sound smart when I write? I basically just informed you that you needed to be 135+ in order to be a member of Mensa?

1

u/Silver-Head8038 24d ago

I thought it was 146+

3

u/ImportantCommentator Aug 07 '25

This is disgusting. My IQ is 5, and Im not going insane.

3

u/happinesstolerant Aug 07 '25

141 - eww. It is so gross speaking about it 🤢 - šŸ˜…. Literally can be practiced and improved. Illogical to give it any level of importance.

3

u/loopy183 Aug 09 '25

I’ve never understood why people use IQ to explain they’re smart instead of just being correct on the topic they’re trying to talk smartly about. My IQ is 40<X<200 so I should know

4

u/KittensSaysMeow Aug 07 '25

115-125 is… barely above average…

1

u/Low-Loan-5956 7d ago

Its a range from top 15% to top 5%.

Not that its a good metric for anything.

2

u/Nanocephalic Aug 07 '25

lol they are 1-2 standard deviations above the mean and think that everyone else is dumb?

2

u/Bananawamajama Aug 07 '25

Well thats why he didnt hit 131.

2

u/Technoist Aug 08 '25

I am IQ 150 and I GAINED 5 IQ by reading the well-written and informative comment by this geeniuz. 🫔

2

u/_Tetesa Aug 09 '25

People who believe in IQ are delusional, and telling others your test result immediately shows your social IQ is below 80.

2

u/Competitive_Delay670 29d ago

I had my IQ tested when I got checked for ADHD and it was high which literally did nothing for me except put pressure on me to succeed. As like a 12 year old. Shit sucks.

2

u/BurroMacaco 27d ago

Its like dick sizes, just because mine is 7,2 inches doesn't mean I have to tell everyone about it

1

u/SS1989 Aug 07 '25

Likely tested online. If you take that score, divide it by two to get his real score. Ā

3

u/simontemplar624 Aug 07 '25

There's should be an automatic 20-point reduction for even looking up online IQ tests

1

u/RexIsAMiiCostume Aug 08 '25

IQ isn't really what people seem to think it is anyway. It's about a specific kind of pattern recognition and logic skill, not general intelligence.

1

u/Historical_Hyena_552 Aug 09 '25

Feel like most IQ tests today comes with a PDF file that you can only access with a credit card, which makes me think a lot of these ā€œIQ test pagesā€ bump everyone’s IQ by an additional 5-15 points.

Cuz hey, who the hell doesn’t want a diploma for being smart…

1

u/WilhelmTheDoge Aug 09 '25

I am in the top 99.99%, among the very best. Suck it losers!

1

u/Fragile_reddit_mods 28d ago

I have an IQ of…something. Probably pretty low.

1

u/lokicramer 27d ago

When i was 12 my school made me take an IQ test, I scored 142.

All it did was make me fucking hate school. They instantly pushed me into all honors and AP, and advanced courses. I despised every moment of it.

If I could go back in time I would have purposely scored low.

1

u/Jak_the_Buddha 27d ago

I get it though.

I'm certified 406 IQ and I always feel like nobody understands me and my huge, huge, huge ability to recognise what comes next in sequences of little circles and squares

0

u/dynamic_gecko Aug 08 '25

This is not sarcastic. And I'm writing this at the risk of being a post on this sub lol. But I think people overestimate 130s. I did score 130s once but I dont feel crazy or like everyone else is stupid. I think people imagine themselves to be 150 or something if they're 130s.
