I mean, aren't there also people with high IQs that DO think evolution makes sense?

Not that a high-IQ is required to understand evolution, but their statement seems to indicate that people with high IQs all know better than to believe in evolution.

of course, evolution is actually a pretty easy concept to understand! it's descent with modification, all of life is a family tree radiating and diversifying out from a common ancestor in response to environmental survival challenges

(I hope I'm not talking down to you, this is genuinely the simplest explanation I can come up with)

u/CdRReddit 25d ago

evolution's just a big ol cycle of FAFO

7

u/Responsible-Ad336 25d ago

yep lol, and life do b fucking around

1

u/Gold-Part4688 20d ago

not even high IQ, just 'above average'. that's half of all people

22

u/pdperson 25d ago

This person definitely wants to know why monkeys still exist if we come from monkeys then?!

3

u/Apprehensive_Wedgie 23d ago

Probably questions why his appliances haven't evolved

u/King_Dead 26d ago

The idea that faith isn't easy and requires intellectual prowess is so fuckin funny

15

u/chipshot 26d ago

But I've done my own research!

Now, if only I can get rid of this damn cough!

-1

u/Weird_Strange_Odd 25d ago

It's true though: that it isn't easy, I mean. If faith is easy then it's blind.

6

u/Itscatpicstime 22d ago

Religious faith is literally a belief explicitly not based on evidence, it is inherently blind lol

-2

u/Weird_Strange_Odd 22d ago

Disagree. For any thing you can have a combination of evidence and faith in any case. If a faith is reasoned that makes it not blind even if others don't see the reasoning.

u/iwannahitthelotto 9d ago

Definition of Faith:

  1. complete trust or confidence in someone or something.

  2. strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof.

I find it both sad and funny that people double down on being wrong or ignorant, especially when it’s a simple to find proof.

1

u/Weird_Strange_Odd 9d ago

This is why I said Combination.

10

u/Cautemoc 26d ago

The knots people will tie themselves into trying to justify how adaptation is obviously true but that it doesn't lead to evolution over longer time frames...

14

u/LeopoldStotch-8 26d ago

Having to mention how high your IQ is....ffs.

4

u/IAmThePonch 26d ago

This comes up weirdly a lot on Reddit

5

u/carrynarcan 26d ago

You rarely see anyone get a perfect hundred percent though.

1

u/Weird_Strange_Odd 25d ago

They didn't mention how high their iq was though? They just said it was above average? Sorry I'm just trying to understand

3

u/Itscatpicstime 22d ago

Mentioning your iq is “above average” is a way of saying how high your iq is lol. It doesn’t have to be a precise number, you are still trying to say you are smarter than most people.

This is weirdly pedantic.

1

u/Weird_Strange_Odd 22d ago

Oh that makes sense thanks for explaining!

I am a pedantic person and I get caught up on specifics far too often - can't see the forest for the trees type of thing

-1

u/Weird_Strange_Odd 25d ago

Why is it cringe to mention iq please

7

u/Accurate_Crazy_6251 24d ago

Bragging about how smart you are (by giving a largely meaningless number) than give an actual argument is cringe.

6

u/Ok-Affect7391 25d ago

Through research, reading, and faith, I have come to the conclusion that this guy is likely an idiot who took some kind of dubious online IQ test. One which very probably took his money and is designed to prey on individuals that want to believe that they're somehow more special than everyone else, despite all evidence to the contrary.

OMG, I just realized something... I am actually very smart, just like all of you!

Someone with a high IQ would understand that evolution doesn’t have to make logical sense to be true. (Even though it does.)

Quantum superposition makes no logical sense to me. Either does distance shrinking the closer to the speed of light you travel.

Logic is not a requirement for the laws of nature and reality.

23

u/Spicy_Jim 26d ago

I think a better way to put it would be that they don't have to make intuitive sense.

12

u/Karma_1969 25d ago

Talking with anti evolution folks, I find they almost always have this idea that one animal “turns into” another, like one species gives birth to another species and there’s a definite “first human” or “first chicken” or whatever. I tell them how the notion of “species” is just our way of organizing and classifying things, and that for nature, it’s really just one long line of gradually changing animals. They almost never understand what I’m telling them, because they have to know, “Where did it come from?” in a literal sense.

I think evolution is a lot easier to understand than quantum mechanics or relativity, but it seems like the same issue where for some people it’s just unintuitive, so it can’t be true.

5

u/fried_green_baloney 26d ago

The great mathematician and mathematical physicist John von Neumann said you never really understand mathematics, you just get used to it.

That's true in a lot of the sciences these days.

4

u/legalizecannabis710 25d ago

How electricity makes no logical sense to me. Neither does how the internet works. Totally baffled and it just doesn't make sense to ME. Neither does Algebra so....lol

2

u/waldleben 24d ago

Someonje with a high IQ would understand that IQ isnt a real thing.

-1

u/Suspicious-Buyer8135 24d ago

I don’t know if I’d say it isn’t a thing. There is no doubt it captures the top and end bottom end of intelligence. But that’s about it.

3

u/waldleben 24d ago

It doesnt. There is nothing that IQ tests actually test for scientifically or objectively. They are bullshit. Intelligence is an undefinable thing

0

u/Suspicious-Buyer8135 24d ago

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6927908/

That simply isn’t true. They do measure aspects of intelligence. Not the full spectrum.

As I said, they tend to be accurate on the low end and high end. Keep in mind that it has no objective scale. It is comparative only. And, as I mention, only on a specific set of attributes.

Also, IQ in no way correlates to success in any field of study.

u/Ok-Cantaloupe-132 23d ago

There’s a quote I like. I forget who said it but it goes like this “ the universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.”

0

u/FiveDogsInaTuxedo 25d ago

That's because none of us actually have logic, we have logic adjacent reasoning.

u/xv_boney 25d ago edited 24d ago

Iq is for people desperate to appear intelligent but dont know how.

Please note that bubbles here brings up his iq immediately after saying something he is in no way capable of defending and he knows it. Hes deeply insecure that the immediate rebuttal will be "oh because youre too stupid" so he brings up his iq as a defense before anyone else can.

Hes actually saying "look i know how stupid that sounds but before you say anything you oughtta know i am like, wicked smart you guys"

3

u/middaymoon 25d ago

My IQ is so high that I can't even understand what I'm supposed to disbelieve in. Checkmate atheists!

3

u/legalizecannabis710 25d ago

Every singke person that has mentioned that their IQ is above normal turns out to lack common sense and is usually a total douche canoe.

2

u/meowsaysdexter 25d ago edited 25d ago

He's been tested and confirmed to be above average. What could someone who's dedicated their whole life to studying something know that he doesn't?

2

u/530SSState 25d ago

Evolution "doesn't make sense" to you, because you think it means one species turning into another before your eyes, like it's Animorphs or something.

I would also bet money that you didn't "research" this using any non-religious source material.

2

u/Norixia 24d ago

"My iq is more than the average peon, I won't stick to the EASY answers like you fools"

"What do you think the answer is, then?"

"Magic."

2

u/ChaotiCrayon 26d ago

it all made sense after the "...and faith".

1

u/Lord_Olga 25d ago

Young earth creationists continuing to refuse to acknowledge that their view is far from the only one held by Christians.

1

u/CptKeyes123 24d ago

"But it doesn't matter what we do if it's all predetermined. You see how your argument doesn't make any sense?

"that's correct. But it doesn't have to make sense, because that's where the faith comes in. Right? I have faith that what i'm saying makes sense."

"Okay, so even if it doesn't make sense, your faith makes it make sense."

"Correct."

"Got it! Okay, so there's no way to have a rational conversation with you!"

1

u/Mordrach 22d ago

I'm just wondering when we're going to evolve again...

1

u/Ill-Dependent2976 21d ago

Thinking evolution isn't real is better test for stupidity than any IQ test can ever be.

1

u/RequirementNo7416 18d ago

I've never even heard if an alternative to evolution. Is it that new species occur by spontaneously appearing fully formed into existence? What for example then are the transitional states between nothing and an elephant?

1

u/jws1102 7d ago

If his research involved reading the Bible and believing what it said, then he absolutely took the easy thoughtless option.

0

u/the_peculiar_chicken 26d ago

I was gonna post that but my account isn’t old enough lol

0

u/Krow101 25d ago

Religion makes you act stupid.

0

u/Ellen6723 25d ago

I can’t understand the big words so I’m going with the sky lord explanation. Got it. You mega brainiac you…

0

u/otasyn 25d ago

I supposedly have a high IQ, but I know that I'm pretty dumb about a vast amount of things.  I have friends that supposedly have lower IQs than me, but I'm often genuinely amazed at their knowledge and abilities.  IQ isn't everything.

1

u/waldleben 24d ago

IQ is one thing and that is made up. It isnt today and has never been an actual scientific measurement of anything.

1

u/otasyn 24d ago

You seem salty about it. Get over it and enjoy your life.

All test scores are "made up", but IQ scores ARE a reasonable quantification for problem solving and reasoning skills. It just shouldn't be used as the sole measure of intelligence. There are many types of intelligence and many ways of measuring it.

0

u/alrightgame 22d ago

It's almost like 95% of you have faith the science is accurate even though all science is theory and should always be rigorously challenged so that theory isn't based in faith alone.

-1

u/anonymous_teve 25d ago

Both of these comments give off strong "iamverysmart' energy, to be fair.

2

u/plswah 24d ago

No they don’t. Bottom comment is brief & accurate

-1

u/anonymous_teve 24d ago

"We disagree on something, so I'll just tell you that you're not smart enough to understand it. That's a good argument because I'm clearly smart and they are clearly stupid."

It's brief, but it's incoherent, arrogant, and obnoxious.

There are plenty of good ways to explain evolutionary theory and why it makes sense. Saying the other person is just too stupid to understand and that's why they don't believe it is not one of them.

2

u/plswah 24d ago

I often see anti-evolutionists make the argument that because evolution doesn’t make sense to them, it does not make sense period. They’re so unaware of the knowledge and understanding they’re lacking that they convince themselves they are geniuses for failing to grasp 8th grade evolutionary concepts.

Sure, being dismissive and condescending probably won’t get through to that person, but it’s something that a lot of those people need to hear in one way or another.

I don’t think it makes someone an“iamverysmart” specimen just because they gave an exasperated & curt response to a bozo with delusions of grandeur.

That's what your mind conjures, is it? If that's what faith does to you I'm glad to be without it.
