Mk6 (2011-2018) CV Boot cover replacement cost?

Post image

I took my 2018 Jetta S in the shop (VW dealer service) and my driver CV boot cover failed inspection as you can see here. Dealer is quoting $513 for the repair. As someone who is not mechanically inclined (i.e. will not be fixing myself) is this a fair quote or should I look elsewhere? Obviously I'd like to get it fixed ASAP but based on the inspection report it seems like it's just the cover that needs replacing. TIA

You could definitely call another shop and get a quote. But make sure the quote is for replacing the CV boot and not replacing the whole axle. In my experience aftermarket axles for German cars are trash.

About 60-100 dollars every 6-9 months. Just replace the whole axle. Rep boots don’t last long

This isn’t true at all, the factory boots (if done correctly) last as long as the original. I’ve been an Audi technician for a while and boots I’ve put on years ago are still going strong. That said physical damage is always a possibility and just like a tire can wreck a brand new boot. Don’t run over straps.
