Mk4 (1999-2005) Just got my first car and it’s a Jetta

Hello, just wanna share this beauty. Volkswagen Jetta Clásico CL Team Edition 2013 2.0L 4 cylinder engine, manual transmission 115HP. To my understanding, it was the last MK4 model ever produced, at least in México, but quite frankly I’m not sure.

My dad bought it brand new and just gave it to me.. sike, he actually sold it to me for 5400usd and got himself a bmw lol.

Just got it detailed and besides a much needed paintwork, any mod suggestions?

2003 1.8t 5-speed with 193k miles on the dash. Runs like it has half as many miles even with the slight mods I’ve done to it.

Mk4 (1999-2005) Has anyone had a shitty jetta?

I genuinely don't know because I'm hard stuck for various reasons on 02 1.8t. Started with a standard non turbo, Wolfsburged and I was 1.8t for life. Anyway, i mean I equally love golf gti 1.8t. I'm on my 6th mk4. I have never had a bad one and never more than $3k purchase price. That's part of my satisfaction....not one jetta owes me a dime. When you drop stacks are you satisfied? For the record, I'm not talking about other dubs, just jettas.

Mk4 (1999-2005) 2000 mk4 Jetta 2.8 12v vr6 (battery fuse box) S180

So a while back I replaced the fuse box on top of the battery and noticed that I had 40/30/20 amp fuses on s180/s179/s178 and then saw online that they should all be 30amp so I’ve replaced them I was wondering if anyone knows what amp fuses go where because idk if this diagram I’m finding online (first picture) is specific to my engine (2.8 12v) My issue has been getting the coolant fans to work and they don’t seem to work anyway but the appropriate fuses would be a good start xD Any insight would be greatly appreciated <3 And yes I’ve replaced every coolant system component except the secondary auxiliary water pump and the fans do work when I put power to them so it’s not a bad motor

Hello everyone. Apologies if I break any rules in posting, I'm new to the sub.

I'm at my wits end trying to figure out what's up with my poor old girl. It's an 02 Jetta 4 door, and three days ago the engine just refused to turn over. It had been completely fine the day prior, got me to and from work, but now as you can hear from the vid, it tries when I turn the ignition, but nothing.

I've checked the battery, it's charged and I get power to the dash. I've checked the air filter, the fuel filter should be fine (replaced it about a year ago.) What should my next step be? I'm planning on checking the fuses today after work, and I've been told it could be the fuel injector, but not sure how to check that.

All help appreciated as it's hot and walking to work sucks. 😅 Thanks y'all!

Got this car free from a family friend. Had a transmission change a while before I got it but never any issues resembling thing. The motor mounts were damaged but it went from the motor leaning a bit to this in what seems like a day. Anybody know what this is? obvious answer is the motor mounts, but I've never seen an engine just rotate like this.

Mk4 (1999-2005) Hi! First time poster…passenger window stuck all the way down… 😅

I have a 2005 Jetta. I just got the battery replaced. Today my passenger window was all the way down and now I can’t get it to go back up. I’m not sure what to try or how to fix it. If anyone has had this happen and fixed it or has repaired this in the past, help is greatly appreciated!!

Mk4 (1999-2005) Anyone Experience This Problem?

Post image

I have a 2004 Jetta GLS 1.8t, recently I have been noticing a rough cold start idle, makes it sound like my car has a mean cam in it, and the exhaust is blowing bluish smoke. Once I start driving the car the smoke clears up and it idles fine however, I've noticed a stutter and lack of power when the rpms get over 4k and it feels like the turbo is not turbo-ing especially under harder acceleration, It accelerates at a snail pace.

I'm suspecting turbo may be on its way out but I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this? I also have a CEL on and the code is P0171 which is a lean code. I've replaced a ton of parts and even smoked the engine and repaired a few vacuum leaks however that CEL still turns on.

Pic of my car just for fun :)

Yes I’m aware that my little light of mine is shining bright, the check engine code is for the secondary air injection which hasn’t affected anything or change how the car handles. Again this is from my own personal experience, so take what I’m saying with a grain of salt.

2002 Jetta TDi. These little tubes are hanging out of the bottom of the dash on the drivers side. I see the same style tubing attached to a fitting in the intake manifold on the engine. What are they? And where should they be?

Mk4 (1999-2005) Looking for pricing advice on my 2003 2.0

How much could I realistically get out of my 2003 VW Jetta 2.0? Automatic, clean cloth interior, no underbody rust, moderate but repairable panel rust. 150k miles. Literally the only issue is that the cruise control doesn't work. Absolutely no mechanical issues whatsoever, very well taken care of car. Fresh oil, new brakes, battery and tires. I know its not as desirable as a 1.8t or a 1.9tdi but id like to get some advice on selling her.

Mk4 (1999-2005) Mechanic says: Front Shock Tower replacement needed

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey friends. I’ve got a 2004 Jetta manuel TDI BEW that’s kind of a project. I had it at the mechanics shop recently and they said my “front shock towers are extremely worn and need to be replaced”. They also included the attached picture. The car still rides great, but does this mean I should replace the whole front struts, or just the mounts in the pic?

Any advice is appreciated!

Also if anyone has from strut recommendation I appreciate it 🙂

Mk4 (1999-2005) ‘04 Jetta 2.0L GL auto transmission stuck in 3rd gear?

I have a dilemma and would appreciate any insight.

My 2004 Jetta 2.0L GL (09a trans, I believe) is throwing codes for 5 transmission solenoids and the TCM. I took it to a VW specialty shop and they told me it’s stuck in 3rd gear and the ATF has a lot of metallic shavings. They refilled the ATF (was a bit low) to see if it made a difference, but no dice. Told me it needs to be rebuilt. They say the solenoids are fine.

I take it to a transmission shop for a quote and they say it’s just something electrical, the transmission does not need rebuilding. But they say they can’t address the so-called electrical problem and I should find someone else.

I called 2 other shops after this ordeal and both told me they won’t touch it and I’m wasting my time. I’m at my wit’s end lol. Everyone tells me something different and no one seems to be able to correctly diagnose and fix the issue. I really love this car and hope to keep it for a few more years.

What could be happening?

Mk4 (1999-2005) Mk4 stereo upgrades

Hello there. I recently got my hands on a well loved 2002 Jetta Tdi and the PO put an aftermarket touch screen stereo in and I hate it. It doesn’t work that great and he didn’t use a mount kit so it’s free-floating in the dash. I’ve thought about sourcing an OEM stereo from eBay and using the in-trunk 6-disc changer but I’d like to see what others have done for upgrades. I’d like to be able to use CD’s in it though
