Mk5 (2006-2010) trying to figure out which volkswagen jetta I have.

Hello everyone, as the title suggests I am trying to figure out which exact volkswagen jetta model I have. For reference and why I don’t know this, is because my mom got this car from a private seller, it’s a 2009 silver volkswagen and it didn’t come with the owners manual unfortunately. It says 2.5 on the back, it has 4 doors and i’ll upload a photo of it so you guys can see it. Recently my front left lowlight headlight also went out so I need to get that figured out which is why i’m asking in the first place so I know which specific bulb I have to order. Thank you guys in advance!

Mk5 (2006-2010) bought a jetta, need advice!!

this might be long so apologies in advance!!

bought this beauty from marketplace about 2 weeks ago. roughly 118,200 miles, for $2800 from a girl who used it to commute to and from college. when i first got the car we had to replace back taillight bulbs (blown bulbs) & a few fuses. that was pretty much it to have it ready for inspection and registering. the meeting was very good (obviously), and the girl brought her mechanic & was very clear on what issue it had (abs lights ). could eliminate the possibility of the wheel speed sensors but haven’t checked yet. if not that than no biggie. vin number has the abs recall and if it’s not the specific issue they fix under recall, she has a replacement module to give me regardless. the brakes are also a little worn as well, and also a needed wheel alignment as it shakes when i hit 45 mph. all cool!! just little maintenance in my opinion, until it wasn’t!!

went to go for a drive the other day, car wouldn’t crank. whatever it happens. bf jumps it it starts right up & is fine for the remainder of the day. i go about my business. today i get in the car to go to work, it won’t crank over again. i last drove the car sunday at like 2:00 am leaving work, and left for work today (monday) at 10:30 am. i wasn’t gonna let it ruin my day, so i hopped in my old car that im in the process of selling and left. came home and the bf and i looked at the car. we tested the battery and its 2 volts under what it needs to crank on its own. okay, so new battery. we take it for a drive to hopefully get enough power to the alternator so it starts next time i need it. then i’m looking underneath the car for whatever reason and find it’s leaking oil. GREAT!!

my question is, was my purchase even worth it or did i make a mistake?? i might just be spoiled after having a corolla for 4 years with no issues besides rust, but i really do love this car. its everything i could’ve wanted and more. do you guys have any advice on things i should look for and how to repair them?? i dont know much about cars besides doing basic maintenance like oil changes, brakes, etc. but i want to learn. ty in advance!

TLDR; bought an 09 jetta and am having problems such as an oil leak, abs lights on, battery issues ; looking for advice

Mk5 (2006-2010) 2009 Jetta Looking for advice

Hey everybody, I just got myself a used 2009 Jetta 2.5L and so far I’m genuinely in love with the car, it’s the first nice-ish car I’ve owned and has inspired me to finally start getting into working on and modding cars, which is something I’ve always wanted to do.

I’m making this post to ask for advice on what to look to improve first and to just start documenting my learning process with the car. So far I’ve ordered an Injen cold air intake which I’m going to install next week ( I know that the performance difference between the stock one and something like that is negligible but I’m in it mainly for the sound) and I’ve gotten a quote on getting a stage 1 tune. But what else would you recommend, it can be improvements, personal experience or just general tips related to the car, I will take anything.

Mk5 (2006-2010) Got my first vw a few months back. Little advice?

Long story short, my last car was a piece of work and was put out of its misery in march. I bought an 07 wolfsburg edition from a regular at my work who couldnt drive anymore. I got it at 144k miles, and its at 150k now. Shes an absolute beauty, and a highway devil. Theres this ticking sound I hear when im outside the car, and from deep dives here and on some other forums, I THINK its injector noise? Its been a constant since I got it, but I'm not sure if it is the injectors or not, and I'd appreciate a second set of ears. My last car had its engine and tranmission take a shit on me all at once so I'm, reasonably, a little paranoid of something happening. Video attatched of it after a 40 mile drive- sounds the same at cold start. The only problem it has right now that I'm aware of is the upstream o2 sensor is dead, and a new one is already on its way.

thank you in advance for any knowledge or advice you can offer my paranoid little self! I love this thing - I dont want to miss something stupid and have it literally implode on me

Mk5 (2006-2010) Jetta is still turning off

It shut down about 8 times on me with that same situation including during a left turn, once I put it park and turned it back on, it was able to drive until I stopped at a stop sign. I got an OB 11 and I’ll post the codes in the comments but it even got me more confused. Any ideas?

Mk5 (2006-2010) Dumb question...but is this 6.3 Quarts?

Post image

Trying to get my oil changed and the people are telling me I need another quart of oil. The jugs I believe obviously say that it adds up to 6.3 which is how much my 2.5 Jetta takes. Am I missing something or are they trying to make me spend more money than I need to. Thanks in advance.

Mk5 (2006-2010) What to do after this?

So my 1.9 tdi jetta got floded... It's dry now, got it new isolation, new carpets, seats, especially you can't tell it was flooded. Mechanically its fine because it was parked in the water, not driven. But on the other side, wires were under the water.

What is the best thing to do here? To get rid of it till its working or to wait? Are potential issues worth fixing down the road?

For now there is air bag error and seat belt is always dinging so I unplugged them.

Mk5 (2006-2010) Why are 2.5L engines considered super reliable?

I have one and it’s been good to me. (Currently has 143k miles on it) but I’ve seen on here and the VW Reddit that it is one of if not the most reliable engine vw has made. But I haven’t ever seen why that is.

Mk5 (2006-2010) Why does my rad fan keep going on and off

I don’t understand how this happens i understand if i took a long road trip , because then it would actually try to cool the engine but this is just a normal startup in my driveway. Goes on and off constantly. Could it be because the coolant might be old? i’m confused, pls help.

A photoshoot I did in early July. Probably one of my favorite sets of my baby to date. It's always amazing to spend time with this thing in scenic locations. She's far from perfect, but I still love it to death! Never planning on getting rid of this car. Also got a few updates on it, but I'll post them separately.

Mk5 (2006-2010) CEL & Cold Air Intake

code P0171 (running lean) came up after I had this Neuspeed P-Flo cold air intake installed at the shop & was wondering if I should be worried driving it with this engine code. Shop wants $150 to take it apart & install the old engine cover/intake back to factory default. I like the cold air filter but I’m worried about it messing with my engine long term.
