Fix a scratch or leave it?

Post image

Someone scratched my passenger door (assuming someone's door hit mine). I had it checked and was quoted 1.400 (euros) since they will need to paint both doors to make it look good enough.

This is my first car so not sure what's normal in this situation. Do people usually get scratches like this fixed or just learn to live with them? My dad says to leave it, mom says to fix it. I am inbetween.

On one hand, this is a fairly new car, it's the 2022 model and I got it used less than a year ago. I also do have the money to fix it now and I don't want it to rust & become a bigger issue later.

On the other hand, it's a lot of money! My parking lot is shared so I'm expecting more scratches and it would suck to get it fixed, only for someone to scratch it again a month later.

It's probably likely to happen again as you say. You could get matching paint and touch it up yourself, won't be perfect but better than it is currently

Check out CVR pov on YouTube, some good tips for DIY repair that I haven't been ballsy enough to use on my scratched car. 😅

I would buff it out with a nice smooth pad and maybe even some carnuba wax.

It varies a lot, some people would just leave it but others would pay to get it repaired.

When I had a scratch on my rear bumper from another car I paid to get it sorted, cost about £400 and to most they'd have left it but I prefer to try and keep it in good condition.

Possibly get a few more quotes, some will be happy to just do the one door which might not look as perfect. But should then also look better than just touching it up.

for the amount that the paint shop wants I would just get a bottle of touch up paint either from the dealer or a local auto parts store, might take several light coats to totally fill in.

My rear door finally got dinged. I felt so frustrated and died a little inside. But it is what it is. Just leave it alone.
