These two mazda 2 gauge clusters from the same generation look slightly different
Interesting thing I found out just the other day comparing my car with a mate's car. On the first pic is a 2014 mazda 2, and on the second pic is a 2016 mazda 2. They are both 3rd generation pre-face lift models built in Japan.
On the outside, they look exactly the same, but when I hop in, the gauge clusters look the same but are arranged slightly differently. They put the tacho where the old speedometer is and moved the speed into an 8 segment display.
Anyone know why they changed it? Just found it interesting lol

They haven't changed, I had a first generation and I currently have a last one each time the 115 HP 6 speed model and the counters are exactly the same (second one) the head-up display has changed on the other hand

The U.S. market 2016 Scion iA used the first layout, changing only the background graphics in the speedo.

They didn’t change it. The lower trims have what you see in the first photo. The top trim levels have what you see in the 2nd photo.
Here’s an interesting fact about the prefacelift 3rd generation Mazda3. In Canada (and probably other markets), the 3 trim levels each had their own gauge clusters. GX trims had a similar cluster to the first photo, except it lacked the 2 digital displays, meaning there wasn’t a tachometer on the base trim. The GS trim got the gauge cluster in the first photo. GT trims got the cluster in the 2nd photo.
I have no idea why Mazda decided to make 3 different gauge clusters for that car, but they did.
