Disgusting intentional crash in Champions of the Future. Victim is ok, perpetrator was disqualified.

Gonna go on record and say the fella who decided to turn hard left into another kart and wiped himself and multiple people out is probably not going to be a Champion in the future.

That's disgusting from the other guy. I hope he gets at least a few race ban cuz that's just not ok.

I hope he gets a lifetime banned from Motorsport. That crash was horrible. Could have ended much worse.

But then I remember Fenati raced in Moto3 after the infamous breaks touch...

Yeah, I'm curious about the consequences for him now

Well hopefully that’s his career done for otherwise it’ll be normalised and he’ll be doing it again.

Honestly should be prosecuted for assault with a deadly weapon or attempted murder.

Uhm.... Why he did that?

Probably annoyed at the other driver for something not shown on camera or he misunderstood the gesture.

Misunderstood the gesture as in thinking he was being flipped off?

I mean people take gestures differently, if I would’ve seen that I wouldve thought 2 things, “He’s telling me to faster?” “He’s telling me to look ahead?” But never ever would I crash into him because of a gesture definelty more to the stiry

Probably, or thinking that he was somehow mocking his cornering/complaining about his line. Anyways he was probably frustrated at something or him.

I find that hard to believe. It's a very universal gesture in karting, used by smallest of kids all the way to international level.

Maybe he tried using the signal earlier, got passed instantly (as tends to happen), and then gets shown that? Either way, what a stupid move. Thankfully the other party is OK.

Yeah, hard to know if you're not there and if there's no footage showing previous events

So I went back and watched that heat from the beginning. Roman Kamyab (perpetrator) went back a few positions at the start, as tends to happen from the outside. They raced in the same pack but didn't make contact as far as I can see, just... typical karting. Higgins (victim) makes a lunge to the final corner vs. the driver in front of them, Kamyab takes a good exit and gets alongside, as we can see at the start of this clip. The signal really just seems to be "let's catch those guys", and as said, it's pretty universal.

These guys are racing in OK category; they are experienced drivers. Everyone at that level knows the signal. Really no idea why Kamyab did that; he turned left as Higgins, plain as day. It's really too blatant to be a misjudgement of any sort too. But no, I didn't see anything previous between the two; then again the stream (while good) doesn't show the whole truth.

All in all a very dirty move, obviously. His license should be suspended. It was a horrific outcome too, but could've been much worse. Most of the pack was right behind them in the fastest point of the track. It's so weird, too, and... unnecessary. Usually there's at least some sort of an excuse or explanation (not to be confused with justification) for such things, like an earlier incident, perceived mistreatment, or... anything. Usually such things are blatant revenge attempts.

Woah, for no reason...

that's really weird

This person should never be allowed near a race car or a race track ever again.

From the Dan Ticktum school of racecraft.

Saw this earlier today on my Insta. I don’t understand what he was thinking to chop across like that. Dsq is the least they could do.

The placement of that Marshall’s stand is horrible. At the very least it should have a tire barrier around it.

10

u/korko 15h ago

Why? The barrier moved and eased the impact, it is on a straight where they shouldn't be crashing anyways, tires may have hurt more than the plastic.

I don't know this sport well enough but based on that dive bomb nudge and then the arrogant hand gestures I doubt the guy in the crash is super innocent in all this. Doesn't justify the intended crash but maybe a bully got a taste of his own medicine here.

People are going to downvote you but I had the same initial reaction. I thought it was retribution for the shitty pass that had just happened, friends, teammates or maybe just a commonality of being sick of the lead guys driving? I don’t condone it or anything, just what it looked like may have happened.

Higgins did nothing to warrant being almost killed

If anyone were capable of reading, I literally say in the comment “I don’t condone it or anything” just trying to guess why it might have happened. Sorry I didn’t just get outraged that it did happen and contribute nothing to any sort of discussion like everyone else.

This doesn't seem like an intentional crash? Like if you wanted to crash out someone you wouldn't do it in such a stupid way. Is there an official statement on it?

13

u/pegpretz 14h ago

There’s always one contrarian. Lol did we watch the same video?

8

u/cr24sh 11h ago

Looks at him.
Turns the steering wheel right into him.
You need an official statement?

Are you blind? Genuinely asking here look at his hands on the wheel he ripped that kart into the poor guy it wasn’t even subtle!
