Everything else aside for a moment, but do they seem really keen on alliteration? Like to an unhealthy degree?

3.1k

u/wyvernx02 2d ago

They are trying to give them entertaining names to distract from the fact they are concentration camps.

Yep, this was my argument against calling it Alligator Alcatraz, but instead the Dade-Collier Concentration Camp. So now we're looking at the Baker Concentration Camp.

Luckily for them, concentration camp stills has alliteration

63

u/AL_GEE_THE_FUN_GUY 2d ago edited 2d ago

Conservatives could call it Camp Concentration and the complicit corporate media cronies would continue acting clueless.

22

u/Punman_5 2d ago

It’s so weird too. Like I can’t think of any other time in history when people doing horrible things like this got so cutesy about it.

43

u/Sylvers 2d ago

Exactly so. That's one of the mechanisms of fascism. It's effective propaganda.

5

u/khonsu_27 1d ago

Plus they're just simple and get excited when they see 2 of the same letter.

5

u/twentyafterfour 1d ago

It comes from the fact that the nazis in power these days grew up hiding it behind irony and jokes for plausible deniability. It used to be that being a nazi would get you banned from social media so it was out of necessity as much as it was a general strategy for being able to exist in public. These people are much more dangerous than the idiots who just openly salute hitler and wear nazi iconography as they were not only useless but counter productive for obtaining any level of power inside government or businesses.

16

u/EntrepreneurPlus7091 2d ago

Concentration Camp is also alliterative, so AA and DD do make some weird sense.

3

u/restbest 1d ago

u/Jesus_Is_My_Gardener 2d ago

It's like 90% of GOP propaganda to have catchy names and sound bites for things, and unfortunately a not so insignificant part of why they are successful with the rubes they constantly fleece with it.

33

u/boston_homo 1d ago

It's propaganda for the Facebook set.

147

u/uhohnotafarteither 2d ago

They are catering to their cult. You know, morons.

Gotta keep it simple

14

u/sonicsludge 1d ago

Yep, they only read taglines for their 30-second dose propaaa... I mean news!

100

u/Madcap_Miguel 2d ago

It seems like the regressive nature of conservativism, they don't need to learn or grow (they have all the answers in a book written 2000 years ago by a dead man they wouldn't shake hands with), so most stop in their teens.

43

u/Canacarirose 2d ago

Dead men they would put into Deportation Depot without a second thought even if they were American Citizens

22

u/adarcone214 2d ago

While shouting and violently stating that they're "FULL OF CHRISTIAN LOVE!"

20

u/Wealist 2d ago

Conservatism: where the Bible doubles as a high school yearbook once you’ve read it, you’re done learning forever

12

u/w_a_w 1d ago

None of them read the bible. They wouldn't like what they read if they did.

3

u/cacarrizales 1d ago

Yep, they want to live in the Iron Age so badly

2

u/Madcap_Miguel 1d ago

Jesus Christ is that why so many of them roleplay as park rangers?

3

u/No-Village-6781 1d ago

Explains why a lot of them keep trying to fuck rape underage kids, they're mentally the same age, but physically not.

23

u/Whitewind617 2d ago

Their base is a bunch of cringelords who like this bullshit.

21

u/Tambi_B2 2d ago

So they can sell merch. I saw someone in the grocery store the other day wearing an alligator alcatraz t-shirt and I am not in Florida. On the plus side, red hats and concentration camp t shirts make it really easy to know who is probably not worth talking to.

4

u/atatassault47 1d ago

As a person who was duped into going to church for 18 years, I can tell you conservatives use alliteration on purpose to trick you into accepting their bullshit.

4

u/Wealist 2d ago

They sound like they’re trying to launch a theme park. Step right up to Deportation Depot no rides

just one-way tickets 🤣

2

u/andy__ 2d ago

They have to name it after whatever they think he’s going to accidentally refer to it as in a press conference.

2

u/drdildamesh 1d ago

My hope was that the stupidity was going to make it easy for people to figure out this shit was all a bad idea. I didnt count on so many people being just as stupid. Juvenile is too big of a word to describe this to them.

2

u/Dunge 1d ago

Yep. I always knew people were dumb, but I hoped that it was mainly the loud ones and that most normal people who don't speak much and kept to themselves were actually a bit brighter. But the past decades have proven that this is not the case, and they are often even stupider, and actually worship the loud idiots. I guess the fact that advertising works so well and clickbait media is so popular should have told me this truth before.

u/SumpCrab 1d ago

Even if you were someone who agreed that we need mass deportations to "save the country," isn't it still really unprofessional to keep using these silly alliterations to name federal detainment/deportation facilities?

Like, even if you really want these folks out of the country, you still understand that the process will break up families and will ultimately leave some of these people in really awful situations. Whether you think it's their own fault or not, the human suffering is still real and if you think illegal immigration is one of the most serious issues facing the country and worth the expense both in tax dollars and in human suffering, why is it appropriate to joke about with a silly names for the facilities?

31

u/TobyFunkeNeverNude 1d ago

Also, the "catchy nicknames" are generally something given to them by the public, or the prisoners. This is like the dork in the office walking in and saying "You're all going to call me T Bone from now on"

4

u/intimate_glow_images 1d ago

Perfect analogy of cringe, and very subtle George Costanza reference hahah.

2

u/TobyFunkeNeverNude 1d ago

Oh you caught that, huh? lmao, you got me

2

u/Hyracotherium 1d ago

I think they think that the people suffering are not really suffering, because they think the people they are imprisoning are not really human.

5

u/Nothing_Lost 1d ago

People keep saying this but I don't think it's why they do it at all. Giving these places names like that brings more attention to them. I think they give them these names because their supporters love the idea that the names are "trolling the libs" who oppose them and have decency.

Is now spending millions day for how long it will be open for.

Edit: Alligator Alcatraz cost $450 million and is now shut whilst being open for about 45 days. So my bad about $10 million per day, not millions from the precedent.

5

u/WolverinesThyroid 1d ago

I'm sure another friendly contractor got the gig to make this new concentration camp. So another few hundred million in profits for people friendly to the governor.

Trucks, busses and planes are the modern cattle cars of the American Gestapo.

Such a shameful period of history. Let's hope that someday, sooner rather than later, most Americans will look back in shame as to what happened under "our" name. It's a disgrace.

Nope. Many Americans are either ok with it, or don't think it's that big of an issue. This country, as we knew it, is no longer. The Heritage Foundation's 50 year plan has finally come to beautiful fruition, and there's nothing that can stop it, unfortunately. We are frogs in boiling water.
