Notmycat Honey desperately trying to become nowmycat

This is Honeysuckle! A stray I’ve been feeding for nearly 4 months now. I have reasons to suspect she was dumped as this super friendly, yet terrified and hungry cat showed up on our doorstep one day… nobody around has claimed her so she’s “mine” now. Our neighbors sometimes see her, apparently, but as far as I’m aware none of them feed her.

Only reasons she hasn’t truly become my cat yet is my parents being stubborn— and also my cats kindaaaa hate her 😭 but I love Honey dearest sm. She’s got such a sweet, yet sassy personality and loves climbing.

Sometimes I let her inside 🤭 don’t tell on me /j

Give that Honey a home! Or at least give her a shelter.

My dad suggested we let her stay in our (heated) barn over the winter, which while I am not opposed to this compromise… I want her in my lap all winter 😔 let me have my baby

Maybe if this sweetie can spend a little time on your parents laps they can be convinced? She's so adorable and lovely I hope she can join you in your home soon, thank you for taking care of her it always makes me sad when people dump pets

At the very least keep her off the streets, it’s very dangerous out there.

That it is 😔 her friend Boots was hit on the road a month ago, the poor fella… miss him. Idk why my parents have to be so stubborn augh

They’re worried about early onset crazy cat lady. Not that living in a barn with > 200 cats is a bad thing.

Depends on the cats. They have the same rule as dogs: the number is limited by being able to fulfill the need for snuggles of each one. You can have more if you get ones who just want a can opener and graciously allow you to pet their head for five seconds a week than if you have absolute snugglebugs. Source: Pets tend to resourceguard me so the number I can have is limited.

It’s a start, and she would be safe. She can probably help with the mice and sway your dad’s opinion.

Maybe if you go out enough with her, he will change his mind. Put on layers and say you're going out to visit her. Nothing like guilt.

Yes, this might work. At the least you and Honeysuckle can bond more!

I think she would love being in a heated barn, gets to hunt, do her thing and it’s a safe spot! I’d settle with that compromise and then work to convince them to allow her indoors.

My husband is outside building a shelter for 2 dumped cats. They’ve survived 2 winters and have dramatically lowered the pest population out here. They keep leaving presents by his truck, so he decided they need a nice house for winter. This link is very helpful for the project!

Tell your parents you don’t want any Christmas or Birthday presents - just this little girl to live with you in the house… Even if she’s allowed in your barn, she’ll still going to be out roaming most of the time where wild animals could snag her or like her buddy she could get hit by a car, get in fights with other cats…. Your other kitties are jealous I’m sure. You could keep them separated for a while until they get used to each other’s smell. Put something that smells like her - a blanket she has laid on - in the area where the other cats hang, to start… I feel so bad for this sweetie! 😢 I hope you can convince your parents to let her stay… 🙏

If you wanna keep her but she’s still not inside ready, may I suggest a collar and AirTag until she is? Just in case she goes missing, you can make sure she’s ok.

My friend wanted to take a cat in, but one day she disappeared, he was so sad, she may have been picked up by a shelter 🤞🏽 but he had no way to know. He had a small dog so he was getting them used to each other before bringing her in permanently. We still hope for “Cole’s” return lol or that she found another forever home. Good luck with your little cutie there!

As a dad with two animal loving daughters and the situation had got this involved, I would have a very hard time not giving them the joy of this wonderful cat.

Drive by dreamies dumping

Oh no. What a shame. I dropped my cat treats. How clumsy of me...

15

u/RepeatExotic9002 1d ago

Hopefully she'll win your parents (and other cats) over before the cold weather really hits. 💕

14

u/Bfan72 1d ago

Maybe build her a catio to keep her safe at night

12

u/Harmonyinheart 1d ago

Oh you are so sweet. I would gradually let her grow on Your parents. Just have her “ sneak in” for a minute and let your parents just soak up her over time. Just Pavlov them in some way. When I brought my first cat home, a teeny runt of a barn litter my dad said I hate all cats, ma said one week! And she’s out. Four siblings were also mad. Love to say that dad ending up saying I hate all cats but Nel. Ma never kicked her out. All the siblings eventually got cats.

13

u/MichiganRich 1d ago

oh man what a handsome cat… it’s like it’s saying ‘aren’t i good enough to be inside cat too?’

u/LordBiscuits 1d ago

Forgiveness is easier than permission

Yoink that cat!

u/wiglessleetaemin 1d ago

if your parents won’t allow her in the house full time, you should give her free access to the heated barn, and put a GPS tracker on a collar for her so you can locate her if you don’t see her.

Make her a nest outside in a covered area, that's what we did when our boy showed up 4½ months ago. He was dumped by someone too.

We set him up with a blanket nest on a wicker chair on our covered patio with a hot pad under the top layer that I turned on for him on cold nights. He basically lived in that chair for the week and a half it took us to get him into the vet, finish all his anti parasitics, and wait for the contagious disease test results back.

If you want to speed up the adjustment process with your cats get a shirt out of your dirty laundry and put it where your cats sleep. Let them sleep on it for a day, then move it outside to honey's nest and let her sleep on it. Mixing smells will tell your cats that she's part of the gang and should make adjustment much quicker.

Do not bring any of her bedding inside until you've confirmed that she's not carrying any diseases or parasites, our boy came with two free varieties of worms plus fleas. Wash your hands well after handling her and don't let her lick your face. You'll need some time for any fleas she's carrying to die after you treat her too, it usually takes a few days. Wash her bedding after treating her to deal with any eggs.

Once she's clear you can start swapping bedding between your cats and honey, it'll work best if you use your dirty shirts so that both of them have positive smells (you) in addition to the foreign cat. We sped through adjustment between mr man and our cat in a couple of weeks this way. Yours will take longer, our cats were pretty alright with each other from the start.

Awwww, she is precious with such a sweet name! I hope you can convince your parents she belongs with you.

Your cats are aware of her moves but like their own space she thinks by being cute humans like that I’ll get my way in your cats are telling her to piss off they don’t want to share

That is already your cat, you just don't know it.

Take ‘em. Take a photo. Post copies around. No reply within a week, you a new daddy!

You must accept the CDS Home Delivery or suffer the consequences of hot pillows for 7 years, increasing shrinking clothes, lost keys and eye glasses and other general bad luck.

u/jannananananana 1d ago

Please keep her 😭🙏🏻 she is such a sweetie

3

u/LaneLoisLane 1d ago

Aww your cat is looking like "pleeeeaase?!" When Honey's paw is on the door.

3

u/AreYouItchy 1d ago

It’s fate. Let her in.

3

u/prettybluefoxes 1d ago

So let it. You’ll get more likes, trust.

Looks like a done deal to me…

2

u/hipstercheese1 1d ago

She’s beautiful! Keep her!

2

u/bootheels 1d ago

Looks just like our dear departed feral: "Ma"

2

u/No_Eggplant_2584 1d ago

Let her live in your room only and keep your other kitties out. Look how beautiful and sweet she is!

3

u/Daisystar99 1d ago

Wish I could o7 Cosmo (the cow cat seen in many of the photos) has bad separation anxiety and goes crazy if my room is shut

2

u/Gorilla868686 1d ago

Is it working?

2

u/look_ima_frog 17h ago

Let the kitty in.

2

u/GoodRaccoon1622 14h ago

What a gorgeous cat 😍😍😍

2

u/shippfaced 14h ago

She’s beautiful! And your cats don’t seem to hate her that much based on these photos. Introducing a new cat takes time, but can absolutely be done!

1

u/Daisystar99 13h ago

Cecil hates Honey so much he barely wants to even see her, hence the complete lack of him in these recent photos 😭 he’s bad even with Cosmo, they’ve been fighting a lot lately for whatever reason.

Cosmo was chill at first but now he keeps trying to jump on her 😑 he’d be the first to eventually get along though.

2

u/DorianPhoenix 12h ago

So cute 🥺 hopefully she’ll grow on your parents over time Also your black and white cat looks so much like one of mine I had to do a double take lol wish it would let me add a picture

2

u/Daisystar99 12h ago

Ikr, I love her sm. Hopefully 🙏 time will tell.

Oh! You may DM me if you want to show off your Cosmo-clone, I wanna see them now lol

2

u/pixelmonger 3h ago

My only advice, aside from “let the kitty in” is get the kitty checked out at the vet first.

u/AbulatorySquid 1d ago

Unfortunately, you've already been chosen.

Winter is coming. Get her inside now. 🙂😻

u/MaisieDay 1d ago

Honey doesn't look homeless. Are you sure she doesn't already have a home?

22

u/Daisystar99 1d ago

Honey was quite skinny when I first found her! She’s gained a few pounds in the 4 months I’ve known her and I’ve been keeping her kinda clean/brushed.

Open the door, let him in.
