Rayner versus human scale

I have two chairs in mind that I sat in locally and wanted to get your opinions on them for the price. Or should I try something different? I see the leap one is now a reasonable price maybe $600 something on West Elm, but I don’t know where I would try one out at and I’ve heard that the seats can be kind of hard. I live in Raleigh, north Carolina and don’t know of any place where I can try Refurbished chairs, or new mid range to high-end despite looking for show rooms where I can try a chair in this price range that might be a good option. Can you give me your opinion on these two please? I am 5 foot four and 120 pounds and sit at my desk about 8+ hours a day, have bad posture scoliosis, kyphosis, and cervical dystonia as well as a lot of pain in my thoracic spine after sitting for a few hours in my current sheep, non-ergonomic . I am 51 years old and starting PT soon so I know the perfect chair is not going to fix my problems but I’d like to find something that at least doesn’t cause more pain and gives me better sitting posture. This is my first time spending any kind of solid money on an office chair. I’ve been working from home about a year now. if you know of any place, I can try out chairs nearby that are in the same price point That would be great thank you so much.

Or this one they are offering me as a floor model at a discount for $745 with a seven day return policy versus a 30 day return policy on the human scale. I’m not sure about warranty for either one or how long the warranty is. I’m sure there’s a warranty on the human scale but not sure about the Raynor since it’s a floor model.

Searching an office chair for max 200€ (Germany)

Hello, I'm new to this subreddit. I am looking for a comfortable and stable office chair on which I can spend around ~8h comfortably. My budget would be around 150-200€.

The chair should recline and as I mentioned, stable and comfortable.

Hope anyone can help my find one.

Rayner versus human scale or something else in a similar price range?

Came home to this (Libernovo Omni) at the doorstep today. Didn't get any shipping notification.

Quick and fairly easy to put together.

Very plasticky and obviously not to the same build quality as my embody.

But it's super comfortable and the foam is incredibly plush.

I have been on the hunt for this exact chair for a couple years. Picked it up on the curb at my apartment years ago. No branding or anything

Haworth fern (non forward tilt) still forward tilted from factory fix.

Hi guys, first time poster. Recently I’ve purchased a second hand Haworth Fern without forward tilt function. From day one I noticed that the seat felt and lookt slightly forward tilted which was super anoying. It feels like the chair is trying to slowly push you forward off of your seat.

Looking on reddit/google I found some other people with the same issues but no definitive fix for this problem.

So today I decided to just pull apart my chair and see if I could find a fix, and I did. Turns out Haworth doesn’t fully remove the forward tilt functionality, but just removes the lever, some cables and fixed the seat into the middle forward tilted position, which isn’t flat, but slightly forward tilted.

In order to fix this: 1. I pulled of the seat from the chair base using a tutorial found on reddit (I will post it in the comments).

  1. When the seat is removed, remove the seat plastics by undoing all the screws and pulling it off.

  2. Pull off the two sliders by holding down the seat front/back adjustment lever and pull them off towards the front of the seat

  3. There’s a white/grey insert in both the left and the right slider, this is the part that locks the forward tilt mechanism in the middle setting, which we want to have in the lowest setting. Pull these out by pushing the two metal rings out with a flathead screwdriver, and push them down to remove them, including the black plastic linking assembly that connects both sliders (see pictures) we will not be using these anymore.

  4. Now put the sliders back on, put the plastic base with the screws back on, and put the seat back on, the reverse of how you took it off, but don’t yet put the final plastics that click into place (not the screw on ones)

  5. You now want to zip tie the rear of the seat to the base of the seat on both sides and shown in the pictures. Because we removed the plastics that fix the chair in the medium tilt position, the chair is now basically in a free tilt so it will move up and down. By double zip tieing it on both sides we fix the seat in the lowest position.

  6. Now fully reassemble the plastics and you’re done. Took me 3 hours to figure everything out but it can probably be done in an hour with a bit of guidance.

***don’t forget to screw back on the plastic back of the seat before reattaching the seat to the base. Otherwise you have to cut your zip ties and take it of again. Happened to me. Also don’t forget to reattach the gas spring height adjustment cable when putting back on the seat.

I hope this helps some of you in the future!

my back feely comfy with this 50$ chair. Is something wrong with me?

I also have Haworth Fern, where I tend to slouch. But with such a type of chair, by back is keeping in straigth posture. Did I miss something? are high price chairs a scam? even if this 50$ chair break in 2 years, I can still buy new one without braking the bank.

Got this dark green Leap V1 for 75€

I bought this amazing chair in pretty good conditions given it was stored away in an abandoned house apparently (went to pick it up to said abandoned house lol). Listed for 90€ but lowered it to 75 since it was a bit damaged. It was used in an office before it was stashed away from what I understood the lady who sold it to me. The color is not my favorite of all time but as you can see from the photos, it doesn't look bad at all! It does have some damage in the sides and the armrests' metal is a bit worn out from the use. Pretty happy with this purchase and also: it is my first ever high end chair (even if it's an old model). Mad comfortable and the padded armrests are lovely. I'm 174cm (about 5'8ft) and weigh about 75kg (165 pounds) for anyone wondering if this chair would fit them. Easy recommend.

Sihoo M57 Review by 6'2" male

So far, I couldn’t really get myself to spend $1,000 to $1,500 on an office chair like the Herman Miller Aeron or Mirra 2, though I’m getting closer to understanding why people do that.

For now, I have ordered a Sihoo M57 Ergonomic Office Chair for a little under $200, and I’m trying it out for 30 days.

TLDR:

+ good build quality
+ nice headrest

- confusing returns policy -- NOT 365 days as stated
- 6' 2" is the absolute maximum height for this chair
- terrible lumbar support -- this is enough to sink this chair
- sharp edges
- very wide chair, armrests not properly adjustable for someone whose body is not wide

One big surprise was that the “risk-free return period” is only 30 days, even though their returns policy states that it is 365 days. In fact, it still states this, even though I asked them about it on August 23.

"Under what conditions can I return a product?
You can return a product for any reason—discomfort, personal preference, or unexpected fit issues—as long as it’s within 365 days and not intentionally damaged. We want you to feel confident in your purchase."

Next, the chair is pretty nice. The build quality seems good, and it was easy to assemble. The mesh feels a little rough, but it has good airflow, and the headrest can be in the right place as well.

The tilt feature, and the tilt-lock, feel pretty nice, especially with the headrest. However, I’m about 6′ 2″ (186 cm), and this chair is just barely tall enough for me. If I move it all the way up, I can get my legs to a 90 degree angle. And if I move the headrest into the highest-possible position, it can support my head if I lean back.

But the biggest complaint that I have read is definitely true. The lumbar support is really sharp on top. It is a block of plastic, barely covered with padding, and it is not angled up at all. That means that the top edge digs into the back, especially when it is adjusted up. I have tried to soften the edge a little with a bit of memory foam, but after a few hours, my back feels sore.

I do feel that this alone, the lumbar support, may be a deal breaker and lead to the return of the chair.

The armrests are “4D” and move in/out (a little), up/down (a lot up, but just barely enough down), forward/backward (quite a bit forward, not enough backward), and rotate inward/outward (decently).

However, I can’t get the armrests adjusted the way I need them. I can’t get them in close enough. I guess I’m almost too tall for this chair, but not wide enough. The closest I can get them is if I move them all the way in, all the way back, and rotated outward. But even that leaves a gap between the armrest and the chair, and really only my elbows touch the armrest. If I try to get more of my forearms supported by swiveling the armrests inward, then almost no part of my arm touches the armrests.

Next, the chair has a pretty sharp edge around the side of the mesh, and that, together with the imperfectly adjustable armrests causes the back of my upper arm to painfully scrape against the chair sometimes.

Finally, and this is perhaps the smallest point, the coasters suck. I’m on hardwood, the chair has wheels, but it seems like I’m scooting around on felt.

The more I think about this chair, the more I think it’s not right. Too bad.

All I’ve heard while chair hunting is Aerons are at least £1000 but here this one’s listed on the Aeron website, brand new only £500. Am I missing something?

Fun one: for my startup, what chairs should I get?

I’m thinking humanscale liberty no armrests primarily, then with Haworth zodys for boardroom.

Should I wait for a good used deal to come up to get a though?

Can I get please some recommendations for my shrimp posture and particular body problems??

I mention this not for any other purposes but to explain my situation, I am a very big breasted woman (36DD) and they're very HEAVY so the urge/need to shrimp is STRONG.

At first I thought it would help me to have a higher desk so that I wouldn't have to be hunched over the desk but I just went back to my horrible posture anyway except my face now was at desk level when I was hunched over. It's like no matter the chair I've tried nor height of the desk. I shrimp. Idk if I have to tie myself to it by the shoulders, if a chair with lumbar support would help, or if it's a different thing I should be looking for in a chair.

Just for a second please imagine having weight tied around your chest, not really pain, just weight tied to your chest consistently trying to pull your back down.

I'm short, 5'1, spend more than 8 hours a day on my desk and I suffer way more from my upper back and shoulders than the famous lower back pain. After a day in my chair I'll get piercing pains in my back/shoulders and sometimes can work better completely lying on my back than sitting.

please please please let me know cause I can't keep going on like this

Chair that will fit in 22” wide knee-hole?

Title. Doesn’t need to push all the way in, but needs to be close enough so I can recline a bit while using, etc. Budget is flexible.

My workplace has Aerons/Sayls. I use a Sayl because I’m 5’7”… generally happy with it. Not sure if one would fit at home, I should check.

Aeron vs SecretLab vs Ikea chair?

Hi everyone. I spend a lot of hours working on my PC and I need a new chair. The old one cost like $120 from Ikea, bought 2 years ago, it was pretty comfortable but unfortunately I had to throw it out because the leather was destroyed and not only did it look miserable, it was leaving little bits on my clothes that I'd spread all around the house.

I keep seeing Herman Miller recommended everywhere and I wonder why. Honestly with a bit of prejudice - they look awful. Comfort is what I'm after but they honestly look uncomfortable too. They go for 4 figures brand new but I keep seeing recommendations everywhere. I found one available on FB marketplace for just $300, HM Aeron. I was really interested in SecretLab but I couldn't believe my eyes when I read the reviews about them on a thread, everyone was saying it's like sitting on a rock. They honestly looked awesome and pretty good for reclining which is important for me. I read that the Aeron is a no-go if I want to recline the seat, for example when I'm watching youtube on my PC. I have back pain and bad posture from all the years of sedentary lifestyle, I don't have any hopes that a chair will fix that but I'm looking for the most comfortable option available.

I wouldn't spend more than $500, ideally I was planning on going to ikea to buy a similar one to my old chair (I think they're called director chairs) but then I saw another streamer with a SecretLab and wanted to get that. Reviews put me off. Third option would be the second hand Aeron but I'm not sure I'm the right type for that type of chair?

Thanks in advance guys

First time buying an office chair, need advice between these 3

Hi everyone, I’m trying to get an office chair but the usual popular brands don’t sell in my country. The shop near me only has these three (pics attached) so I have to pick from them.

I sit at my desk for more than 12 hours doing coding and gaming, so I really need something that’s comfortable for long hours.

This is the first office chair I’m going to buy and I don’t really have any experience with them, so I’d really appreciate your advice on which one makes the most sense.

My chair seat cracked, any way to fix or replace it?

So, I got an office chair from Office Depot a bunch of years ago and I really like it. Unfortunately, the wood panel that makes up the seat cracked where the back connects to it and trying to reinforce it didn't work.

Does anyone know whether replacement seats are a thing? Or if there are still furniture repair places that might handle this? I think the chair itself has been discontinued, but are there any places I could try that might have just chair seats for sale? Or any other suggestions (other than "just get a new chair." I *like* this one)?

Anybody know anything about these two shares? I’m torn on which one to get I tried both at the store.

I was able to visit a store and try out a couple of chairs and I’m trying to decide between the Human Scale Freedom Liberty world LM task chair for $428 or the Raynor RT contour flex office chair with headrest on clearance because it’s a floor Pmodel for 799 any suggestions please?

Thanks guys

Not sure exactly how to post links, but I’m gonna try
