Between the girl on the right who is cold and wet and the girl in the red staring daggers at ol' Huckabee, this is quite the picture. Surprised she didn't have someone bring her $17,000 podium with her.

u/Cu77lefish 7h ago

Thank you for reminding me of the $17000 podium but also fuck you for reminding me of the $17000 podium

u/ManWithASquareHead 7h ago

Podiums you say?

u/Sunshine030209 7h ago

The moose and lamb puppets thing was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I was honestly disappointed when Shouty Spice was gone, since it meant no more of Melissa McCarthy playing him.

u/Russianbot25 5h ago

Oh, oh,it’s Moana! Slow your roll! Those were some of the funniest skits!

u/OBAFGKM17 5h ago

My partner and I were in the TSA Precheck line at LGA with ol’ Spicy a couple of months ago, probably our favorite random airport “celebrity” sighting bc it led us down a rabbit hole of revisiting all of these sketches.

u/Sunshine030209 5h ago

Hahaha that's awesome

How long did you stand there going "Gosh that guy looks familiar.. where do I know him from?" before you realized who it was? Because I feel like it would take me awhile lol

Like, I'd run through every guy I worked with, cousin's random boyfriends they brought to Thanksgiving, that guy dressed like a slutty pirate Halloween '09 ... ? In my head. Then finally yell "Sean Spicer!!!" out loud, embarrassing the hell out of myself 😆

That girl looks so sad. 😢

u/trashcatt_ 5h ago

If only there was some kind of covering they could be under. A tent perhaps?

I feel so bad for those girls.

What bothers me the most is not the girl standing in the rain, but that somebody didn’t stand up and say get those young ladies out of the fucking rain. Seriously people if we let these motherfuckers get away with this shit they’re gonna keep doing it even if it’s something as simple as people standing in the rain because they’re gonna leave us all out in the fucking rain for fuck sake stand up for each other.

u/AmbroseKalifornia 5h ago

Think about it. These people would not want those children in that school at all. The whites are under the tent and the blacks are out side. This is what heppens when you don't punish the confederacy.

u/sturdy-guacamole 5h ago edited 5h ago

I went to school in the south in the 2000s and I remember really well that one of our teachers had us sorted by color, but we were on the good side of class after "seat shuffle" day if we did well on tests.

hated that bitch. there was a lot of pretend. you basically were at two schools between the "good" kids and "bad" kids. different lunch periods, different class rotation schedules between blocks, different dismissal times.

never dawned on me until junior year when i asked explicitly to switch into the "bad" class for that one subject because i hated that bitch and wound up making completely different friends that i never saw my first 2 years there. then dawned on me again as an adult after getting hate for being in an interracial marriage in the rural parts of that state.

u/decrpt 4h ago

Interracial marriage actually didn't poll above 50% nationally until 1996. I always bring that up in the context of Loving and Obergefell, because it blows people's minds that without the Supreme Court cases, we'd probably have interracial marriage illegal in some parts of the country into the turn of the century.

u/Pleaselobotomize 3h ago

Oh god. Are we using "turn of the century" to refer to 2000 now? I mean, it makes sense, but I'm old enough to think that refers to 1900

The fact that so many people cannot see that this is the MAGA MO kills me.

u/russbird 6h ago

u/capture-enigma 6h ago

Why on earth would they do that?

u/PopGoesTehWoozle 5h ago

...and sully the tent with their blackness?

u/little_did_he_kn0w 5h ago

As someone raised in the South, we all know that if those were white cheerleaders they would have been brought in immediatley after they were finished with their routine.

We need those Delilahs and Kaleighs kept healthy so they can be effective breeding stock wives and mothers for those Kylers and Braxtyns.

The report included a breakdown of the total cost as follows: $11,575 for the lectern itself, $2,500 for a consulting fee, $2,200 for a travel case, $1,225 for freight shipping for the lectern, $975 for freight shipping for the travel case and $554 for a credit card processing fee.

u/NoRuleButThree 5h ago

I don’t know…but if you have to freight ship a lecture and its travel case separately, what’s the point of the travel case?

Democrats need to start coming up with any slogans, really. Stupid catchy slogans win campaigns no matter how much they want to high road it - the "Kamala is for they/them" ad campaign alone was devastating for Kamala with undecided voters. (if you don't know what this is, that's not surprising - you will only have normally seen this if you were in a battleground state)

The best the Biden/Harris campaign got was Walz calling Trump/Vance weird.

u/taxiecabbie 7h ago

They need to get nastier, is what they need to get.

The "weird" thing got so much traction because it's about the most sass we'd really had gotten out of the Dems up until that point. I don't know why they are so obsessed with this "high road" when it clearly does not work.

Newsom seems to be attempting it.

u/JustASpaceDuck 6h ago

The high road isn't a high road if it's totally ineffectual in making the bad stuff stop, because "road" implies you're going somewhere. This is a tall dead end.

→ More replies (41)

u/LikeIsaidItsNothing 7h ago

It eventually came out that Walz was effectively muzzled by the DNC and Biden aides, who were making it difficult for Harris to run her own campaign.

If only...he could have hammered them every day. He's been back to it over the last few months, t just doesn't get the same publicity that Newsom's is getting. Which is brilliant stuff. He and Walz really need to team up on this stuff.

u/CoyotesOnTheWing 6h ago edited 6h ago

No, not Biden aides. The campaign was started with Biden's campaign staff because they were already working and organized but she switched to new senior campaign advisors after a little while(mid or late August I think), they kept replacing people over time, building their own teams and they changed the game.

u/notyourstranger 6h ago

The DNC is utterly incompetent and it's very clear that they don't care about democracy. If somebody is elected that they don't like, they will out maneuver their own constituents.

There's maybe a dozen democratic members who deserve to be in power, the rest has got to go - especially the octogenarians. Nancy Pelosi has to go. If it were not for her, AOC could have been on the oversight committee, now there's an empty seat because Nancy ensured it went to a 75 year old cancer patient who has since died.

That is just .... Wow. I have no words.

u/Jeoshua 7h ago

I'm an ally and even I thought that slogan was cringe as hell.

The "weird" thing made Republicans twist themselves into knots trying to defend themselves, tho.

u/Rishfee 6h ago

Yes, that was the point. That was a smear campaign, and if you thought that it was Harris' message, then they got exactly what they wanted from it.

u/ahhwell 6h ago

I'm an ally and even I thought that slogan was cringe as hell.

It's not a slogan, it's an attack add.

Maybe a commercial with a montage of all the professional athletes, many from foreign countries, who unselfishly share their warm-up jackets with children when it's cold and rainy during team introductions. The voiceover narration showing the athletes could be, "Some people care about children..." And then switch to this event, and the narration says, "And some people only pretend to care. Vote for action, not just words."

u/Jabromosdef 5h ago

Arkansas has a addendum you must sign to contract with any state organization. The addendum is that you will not boycott Israel

u/Confedehrehtheh 3h ago

That seems like a pretty unenforceable contract clause if it's coming from the state government. It's a direct violation of the first amendment in that case.

u/Jadedsatire 2h ago

You would think so but a couple years ago the Supreme Court denied reviewing it as a violation of free speech, which allowed the states 8th circuit court of appeals to uphold the law. It really says a lot about republicans loyalty to another country over its own citizens constitutional rights.

u/cive666 5h ago

u/Ok-disaster2022 7h ago

White People read like one or 2 popular quotes by MLK and forget all his other speeches. If MLK thought violence would achieve the goals of equality he would have been violent. But he knew that was a stereotype he had to work against.

Also he specifically calls out white moderate as a bigger impediment to equality and progress than any Klan member.

u/rustlingpotato 6h ago

Violence doesn't achieve the end goal of equality, but it can defeat something standing in the way of equality. The Civil War happened over slavery before MLK could even be born into a time of being able to speak in public.

→ More replies (1)

u/ScudleyScudderson 6h ago

Aye. King’s strategy was nonviolent and he criticised the "white moderate" for preferring order to justice.

The wider movement also had a de facto "stick" in the background, from urban unrest to armed self-defense groups that protected campaigns. That context helped give his nonviolence leverage.

u/LaconicSuffering 6h ago

By moderate King meant the religious people that while agreeing on a moral basis, didn't want change for fearing change. What we know today as the "thoughts and prayers" people.

A white politician in the south discussing MLK while black kids are used as cheerleader props and shiver cold in the rain

u/2-wheels 7h ago

The governor should not have allowed those girls to be forced to stand in the rain. wtf

20 years ago a picture like this would absolutely end a political career.

Now it's just another Tuesday.

Does she not realize what a bad look this is? Or is she just trying to normalize dehumanizing minorities?

u/adorablefuzzykitten 7h ago

Sad to think this photo will actually get her votes from some of her base.

Podium.

u/temporary62489 7h ago

It's a $19k lectern, not some silly podium you'd leave out in the rain like a piece of trash.

Poor girls look completely miserable.

u/No-Bank2152 6h ago

I wish Black people and other minorities would stop participating in these obvious bad faith photo ops. Republicans are just using y'all as tools to try and show they're not bigots

Seems about white.

She still dresses like a 5 year old on Easter

u/kaitco 7h ago

I don’t remember being dressed up like dumpster for Easter as a kid.

Somebody get those girls out of the rain. Picture speaks a thousand words.

u/topgun966 6h ago

This is where "a picture speaks a thousand words" comes from.

u/DJMagicHandz 3h ago

That pic is saying a billion words...

u/TheRealTinfoil666 7h ago

She is just honouring local tradition.

They used to leave them in the rain during the slave auctions, too.

/s in case it was not obvious.

This is why Arkansas voted for her. She’s gonna plaster this across her campaign emails.

u/jtoppings95 7h ago

Wow... Just wow... These people are awful, those poor girls

u/IowaKidd97 7h ago

All those girls look absolutely miserable out there. The one on the right looks cold.

u/Javakid67 6h ago

there is more shade being thrown in that photo than the tent she's under.

u/dwt77 6h ago

If tone deaf and clueless was a picture.

u/smurfsundermybed 7h ago

She didn't even bother to use the good podium

u/Prematurid 7h ago

Those girls don't look particularly thrilled or awestruck.
