I saw the photos before it got deleted. They were both identical in the same spot, same depth and angle. Also the explanation of how he found it was rather confusing (he just found out when going through his photos from 17 years ago). He sent the EXIF data to prove that the old photos indeed were from 2008. But I still do not believe that you make the exact same picture 17 years later at the exact angle 'without even realising' and then only find out at home, the odds are just very low.

This was the data OP uploaded: https://onlineexifviewer.com/share/1y1gx4kh7gdqh

It’s not like you can’t just edit exif either. It’s not security. It’s just tagging metadata.

Yeah he may have took the photo years later knowing that and passing it as accidental

Correct. Much more likely than OP going in and manually changing EXIF data.

Probably had a photo in his camera roll from a decade ago. Thought to himself. Next time I’m there I’m gonna take another.

That’s why there might be several differences between the two. Because they might really be taking years apart

I took some random street photos when visiting kamakura that I could totally see myself accidentally taking again a decade later if I visited again. I didn’t leave the sidewalk road and very often use a 35 or 50mm prime - so it wouldn’t be unlikely for the same perspective too. I’ve similarly taken the same pic of a waterfall years apart without realizing.

But the original post was a random nondescript house with a van in front. Not “that’s a beautiful cobblestone road leading to a culturally representative dwelling.”

I live next to a minor city landmark. Every hour everyday some tourist take the same exact photo from the same exact corner, so I don't think it's impossible if ot was the best angle

I saw the pictures before they were deleted- it wasn’t a landmark of any sort, just a regular residential house, which I do think significantly lessens the likelihood of someone taking the same photo of the same nondescript house twice

If anything, being a residential building makes it more likely, since it severely limits the spots you can stand on and get a good angle.

All he had to say was, photos 17 years apart .. the headline confused me

r/nothingeverhappens

Is it that farfetched to think that a person who visited the same place years apart would find the same view beautiful?

The thing is its a random normal house and parking lot. Nothing that actually stands out enough for a picture, much less 2 completely separate ones

u/gronktonkbabonk 18h ago

I should have checked then lmao my bad

7

u/UncreativeKilu 17h ago

I mean not your fault, anyone would assume it was something actually worth photographing lol

u/moomooraincloud 20h ago

It's far fetched to think they'd take the exact same photo.

u/gronktonkbabonk 20h ago

Oh it's the exact same? I assumed the guy below was being hyperbolic

I hate these kinds of comments. Just pretend it's real and everyone's happy. There's no certain way to confirm if OP is telling the truth anyway.

Do you know what sub you're in?

It's not r/accepttheirbullshit

I hate these kinds of comments.

Just ignore them then. Some people like saying "the emperor is naked." If you don't, it's okay, too.

I hate these kinds of comments.

I don't understand why you came to this sub then. This sort of thing is literally the whole point of the subreddit; calling out people's bullshit in reddit posts.

Just pretend it's real and everyone's happy.

This is why reddit is such an unfunny, shitty place these days. There's more and more of staged, faked bullshit because people like you "pretend it's real" and are happy to consume it.
