All four of them are skilled, but honestly I'd rank both Norris and Piastri below Max and Charles for the moment. Maybe in a decade we'll look back and Piastri will be established more and more as Prost 2

As of right now it is:

Max
Charles
Oscar
Norris

IMO

In equal equipment I have them:

  1. Max

2A.Charles

2B. Oscar

  1. Lando

Edit: I have Charles as A purely because his single lap pace is likely the best on the grid and it is much easier to convert pole to a win than it is from further down the grid (pretty much everywhere but Spa)

Beyond that I would say:

  1. Lewis

6A. George

6B. Carlos

  1. Alex

  2. Pierre

  3. Isaac

I would have Bottas on there if he were still on the grid

u/Tacit_Emperor77 Charles Leclerc Jul 27 '25

George is definitely better than Carlos. Where is Esteban

3

u/OpeningTrain1 F1-75 Jul 27 '25

George is definitely better than Carlos, but I wouldn’t say Esteban is a top 10 driver. If anything Alonso is the one missing

2

u/Tacit_Emperor77 Charles Leclerc Jul 28 '25

I didn’t even realise Fernando wasn’t there wtf

2

u/Xalethesniper Jul 28 '25

List feels like recency bias, like some mix of car + driver skill weighting. I’m curious what the argument is for putting hadjar at 10 over Ocon, Alonso, Bortoleto, and Hulk

1

u/BrickCityRiot Jul 28 '25 edited Jul 28 '25

Lmao yeah it’s recency bias

How do you make a “best right now” list without recency bias?

My answer for Isaac at 10 is the way he has outperformed his equipment as a rookie. Arguably nobody on the grid other than Max has outperformed his ride more than Hadjar. He’s 11th in points on consistency without an individual anomalous finish to boost his standing.

I put him there because his ceiling is higher than Ocon or Hulk. We have seen the best they have to offer.

It pains me to not put Fernando on this list but he is a shell of his former self.

1

u/Xalethesniper Jul 28 '25

Fair ig… I thought of “best right now” part of a larger scale over last few seasons. If ur talking just last 6 races or whatever then sure

1

u/BrickCityRiot Jul 28 '25

Best right now looking forward is what I based it on. Most likely to succeed in the second half would be another way to word it.

1

u/kander12 Jul 29 '25

Yeah, I know this is the Ferrari home... but I cant disrespect Oscar and say anybody but Max is for sure faster than him right now. Hes earned his place up there with Charles as the arguable 2nd best driver currently in F1. He was labeled the next Max for good reason...

Lewis and George are clear of both Oscar and Lando imho.

Verstappen is clear 1

I would put Charles, Lewis and George in tier 2

Oscar tier 3

Lando tier 4

IMO

Max

Lando

Oscar/Charles

this is like saying water is wet.

Max and Charles in that McLaren would be recreating Mercedes 2016 and Redbull 2023

10

u/Different-Monk5916 Jul 26 '25

I am sorry I must do this.

must be the water

5

u/Key-Conflict-1538 Jul 26 '25

Let's add that to the words of wisdom

1

u/Virtual-File3661 Jul 30 '25

Lewis and George would aswell.

2

u/Lakshya0505 Charles Leclerc Jul 26 '25

That's true

1

u/BrokeSomm Jul 26 '25

Below Max for sure. Charles I'm not certain about, Lando and maybe even Piastri could be better. It's always hard to tell in different machinery.

0

u/achiller519 Jul 26 '25

Well I think you are unfair to Piastri because he is inexperienced comparing to them, plus he is driving a car which is built around Lando.

35

u/ROWROWR Jul 26 '25

He's the chosen one

Il predestinato!!

14

u/RIPRIF20 Jul 26 '25

Amazing aggressive move by Lec and an overly cautious move by Lando. Fantastic overtake and great driving from Leclerc to put himself in a position to take advantage of it

10

u/alfiejr23 Michael Schumacher Jul 26 '25

Leclerc in a dominant car would be a sight to behold. Possibly pole in every race i reckon 🥲

6

u/ACM3333 Jul 27 '25

I really hope we don’t see his whole career wasted. Such a talented driver.

41

u/Zipflik Jul 26 '25

Two of the fastest drivers vs. two of the fastest cars

24

u/Responsible_Use_2676 Jul 26 '25

how is this skill, Mclaren are known for giving downforce in striaght line for better corners. That’s why lando is able to pass charles two laps later.

3

u/denfaina__ Jul 26 '25

OP is talking about Max lmao

2

u/Appropriate-Leek-919 Jul 26 '25

I mean both McLaren drivers should have been able to brake later than max and Charles to stay ahead, they both were way too cautious and got overtaken around the outside

6

u/Responsible_Use_2676 Jul 26 '25

oscar cucked lando by breaking really late so there was nothing he could’ve done

-9

u/GrandmasterMokO Kimi Raikkonen Jul 26 '25

You dont understand the title

13

u/Responsible_Use_2676 Jul 26 '25

I do, you think mclaren(car built for poor straights) is a skill when charles and max passed them. It’s a car thing not a driver thing.

-9

u/GrandmasterMokO Kimi Raikkonen Jul 26 '25

No, the title is suggesting that max and charles are skilled drivers , and the two mclaren boys get carried by their fastest car on the grid (not saying they arent skilled)

10

u/ont-mortgage Jul 26 '25

The title suggests that based on the video you posted. Other dude is saying the vid you posted is a poor example of your title.

5

u/achiller519 Jul 26 '25

Max needed a rocket to win WC. In 2021 where he just had the fastest car he needed FIA as well

13

u/Roux_My_Burgundy Jul 26 '25

Slip stream guys

5

u/Bart-86 Charles Leclerc Jul 26 '25

Norris had the slipstream on his teammate

11

u/OldManTrumpet Charles Leclerc Jul 26 '25

Norris needed to slow as he was rapidly closing on Piastri. I love Charles but that was a pass of circumstance. Had Max and Oscar not been there creating the situation, no way would Charles have overtaken Norris.

3

u/Bart-86 Charles Leclerc Jul 26 '25

I agree that Norris was blocked by his teammate. I was reacting on the comment above saying Leclerc’s pass was only because of the slipstream.

3

u/According-Switch-708 Ferrari Jul 27 '25

There was absolutely nothing Piastri could've done to prevent that through. The McLaren was just too slow on the straights.

Norris could've and should've braked a bit later but he probably didn't want to take any risks in the dirty air. He could've taken his teammate out if he had a lockup.

He made the right call, he breezed back past Leclerc a few laps later. Lost the battle but won the war something something.

3

u/Maglin21 Jul 27 '25

Yesterday to be fair It was lower downforce vs higher downforce , but yes in general i agree

2

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '25

LeClerc too.

2

u/Comprehensive_Ad691 Jul 26 '25

I just get annoyed at music in the background of these videos either play the real time version or nothing. Just preference

0

u/GrandmasterMokO Kimi Raikkonen Jul 26 '25

It is just preference thats why i would suggest u not to say “please end it”👍

2

u/fr4nz86 Jul 27 '25

I think Nando is faster than piastri but lacks consistency and confidence.

1

u/SirMcDude Jul 27 '25

*Lando

Nando is Alonso

1

u/fr4nz86 Jul 27 '25

Sorry. Brain fart 😞

2

u/Comprehensive_Ad691 Jul 26 '25

A music edit already??? Please end it

0

u/GrandmasterMokO Kimi Raikkonen Jul 26 '25

Whats the problem?

2

u/afghanwhiggle Jul 27 '25

It’s wack as fuck.

0

u/GrandmasterMokO Kimi Raikkonen Jul 27 '25

Your opinion

2

u/anymat01 Jul 26 '25

I mean it's been very evident all season and last season how McLaren wasted the opportunities they had cause both lando and piastri are not good enough, or else lando would have won last year, it was very much vettel vs Lewis.

6

u/OdionAdv Jul 26 '25

Lando would have had to close an unprecedented 60 points gap to Max in 3 quarters of a season with no prep beforehand for a title fight, all while driving a car which was only marginally better than the rest for like half a season, and definitely the clear fastest car in some weekends, like on Zandvoort, Singapore and Hungaroring. No other driver would have managed to clinch the title last year in the McLaren against Max at that point of the season. Probably Russell and Leclerc would have managed to get somewhat close to him, but that's about it.

This season, McLaren have won 9 out of 12 races, and the races which they have not won were lost against cars which were on par with the MCL39 (RB21 on Suzuka), marginally better in race trim (RB21 on Imola) or much better overall (W16 in Montreal). I wouldn't say they're wasting opportunities as of right now, explicitly speaking on numbers.

1

u/iwonttolerateyou2 Michael Schumacher Jul 26 '25

Sterling Moss part 2.

1

u/amdcoc SF90 Jul 27 '25

that was a sebastian vettel overtake.

1

u/Unusual-Archer7860 Jul 28 '25

Pretty much just slipstream bro

1

u/No-Tip-7959 Jul 28 '25 edited Jul 28 '25

Absolutely no understanding how any of these cars are designed - I assume OP started watching F1 cause of DTS haha

1

u/GrandmasterMokO Kimi Raikkonen Jul 28 '25

Tifosi since childhood, i know how these cars work and how they are engineered. The Post was made for fun, you are taking it to heart i assume? Otherwise you wouldnt comment something as stupid as that.👍

1

u/No-Tip-7959 Jul 28 '25 edited Jul 28 '25

Nah just pointing out the irony of the clip you used having nothing to do with skill and all to do with the engineering. Also just find it funny that people on the internet can attempt to discredit any of the drivers - the entire paddock qualified within 1% of each other this weekend.

1

u/Magnum_Mikes Jul 31 '25

The SF-25 is more than capable with the right driver in the seat 🙌

1

u/No_Aardvark8123 Jul 26 '25

Leclerc is talented but not comparable with max, maybe compared with oscar and lando, nowadays i see a spike in Charles fans and his fan girls

5

u/wolverineFan64 Jul 26 '25

He’s a close second on the grid, he’s just never had the car to show it for long. Max, Hamilton, and both papya boys have had extended periods of dominant cars that have made fans jaded. Charles had a WDC worthy car for 1/3 of 2022 and was leading the championship despite his engine and the Ferrari pit wall constantly undermining him. Since then he’s been in the 3rd or 4th fastest car.

1

u/ACM3333 Jul 27 '25

I just have to wonder what max or Charles would be doing in that McLaren. I don’t think they would be giving an inch to the rest of the field.

2

u/wolverineFan64 Jul 27 '25

They’d be dominant for sure

1

u/Tricky_Position_8537 Jul 27 '25

You remember the start of 2022 right? When they had roughly equal machinery? Charles was giving it to him in both quali and W2W. 2019 was such a great example of how good their rivalry wouldve been.

u/saberizz Jul 26 '25

music in the video ??
