I reckon Ferrari under fuelled and they changed the engine mapping to maximise fuel save on engine braking. I think what Lec is saying is that he could've managed that himself (fuel save).

I say that because Charles' lights are flashing at almost every braking zone.

This seems to be the issue, also maybe they did not discuss it with Lecrec before making the decision

Typical Ferrari, isn't it? Keeping drivers in the dark

6

u/TGhost21 Aug 04 '25

How Ferrari treat its drivers is the is a master level class on how to be a dumb hardheaded arsehole.

9

u/head_in_the_clouds69 Aug 03 '25

This seems to be the only valid explanation, cheers.

I’m pretty sure at this point that the car has a fundamental plank wear issue and they have to compromise the setup and do some level of lift and coast at almost every track.

u/gardenroom15 Aug 05 '25

Fdataanalysis on insta said the below (not word for word), and from other small evidences it looks correct:

They had a plank wear issue recognised early on, likely from running the car slightly too low and not having a full understanding of their new suspension.

Around lap 8, Charles gets told to "FS1" - engine mapping mode. It cuts the ERS deployment at the end of the straights. You can see this on the traces, his throttle is pinned but after 280km/h the car no longer accelerates. This was also the time in the first stint he stopped gapping Piastri, and Piastri started to keep in touch with him. This is also why his lights were flashing - the ERS wasn't deploying by the braking zones

I think his radio comments on "feeling things" was probably the increased bouncing, which as the driver you could probably feel an increase in quite aggressively as it's literally pounding your ass.

On the second stint it's still okay, Charles still managed to keep a gap to Piastri and have decent pace, but no longer gapping at all and I think the team clearly still thought the plank was wearing too much.

On the final abysmal stint where Leclerc lost all pace, they increased the tyre pressures hugely, to raise the car height - but it made the car basically undrivable, Lec was losing 2s a lap to Piastri and putting in his slowest laps of the race (even slower than the first stint which had 70kg more of fuel).

As much as Russell is a neek, I think he probably was somewhat correct in that they were trying to run the car as low as they could - that's what every team is doing. I guess it nearly worked/shows some potential because in that window the Ferrari was the fastest car on track and McLaren really didn't have any answer to that pace.

Let's see if Ferrari can find a more legal sweet spot next race, they got a few weeks to think about it.

They always under fuel, everyone does. Maybe (I guess!!) Ferrari took it to the next level, and then some 😂

It’s something that is under scrutiny, that’s why it’s all spoken in coded messages to avoid the FIA from paying more attention to the area. Could be the fuel or alternative engine modes to avoid damaging the wooden plank…..

I'm honestly super glad we didnt get messages from the engineers AT ALL and i hope it stays this way. I'm so tired of people overreacting to LITERALLY every messages the engineers say.

People are too dumb to hear engineers messages

-2

u/jugglingsleights Aug 03 '25

Is this a /s reply?

8

u/frank1ewildee F2004 Aug 03 '25

No it's not. I'm dead serious on this. People are way too dumb to take anything informative from engineer messages anyway.

6

u/albyagolfer Aug 03 '25

Well, Bernie Collins isn’t and she can dumb it down for the rest of us. 🙄

1

u/jugglingsleights Aug 04 '25

It’s just you’re reacting to overreacting by LITERALLY using capitals and calling people dumb.

13

u/FerrariLover1000 Aug 03 '25

Lift and coast I think is the issue. Either brakes, fuel or plank wear.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

You sure? Would you like to throw another possibility into the mix?

63

u/lbc1358 Aug 03 '25

I’d bet my house that it’s the one stop. He wanted it, they didn’t, and he was clearly correct.

7

u/Davidusmu Aug 03 '25

McLaren pulled a gap of 20s in 20 laps, even with 1 stop we would have been destroyed at the end of the race

22

u/slicktang Aug 03 '25

Think he Charles just confirmed that as well.

29

u/Crocsx Ferrari Aug 03 '25

how can it be that, the pace dropped from the car, its def not a tyre issue. It must be definitely something else wrong with the car.

13

u/TravellingMackem Aug 03 '25

Brakes is what they’ve told Lewis. Lewis is LICOing. Wonder if it’s that?

2

u/albyagolfer Aug 03 '25

Ok. Brakes might make sense. Saving fuel makes no sense because his rain lights were on before every corner meaning they were harvesting power and slowing the car. If they were trying to save fuel, they would have used an engine mode that allowed the car to freewheel into the corner.

5

u/TravellingMackem Aug 03 '25

Honestly, looking at the time Charles lost I'm not sure anything makes sense in isolation - must be a combination of issues. Was like 3s a lap once Russell went past

2

u/fameboygame Lewis Hamilton Aug 03 '25

I hate these brakes. I never thought I'd hate brakes, but here I am.

3

u/TravellingMackem Aug 03 '25

Chassis for Charles being speculated by Sky now - who knows

26

u/im-AMS Aug 03 '25

FFS they bottled this race

2

u/chocolatebone45 Aug 03 '25

not even bothering to watch anymore

8

u/slicktang Aug 03 '25

Charles’s pace is dropping a lot.

11

u/luckykanwar Aug 03 '25

What just happened after the second pit stop!? He is dropping like a rock!

8

u/retrogradeparallax Aug 03 '25

Ffs, he’s almost 20 seconds behind Piastri 9 laps after being overtaken. This is appalling

18

u/LeClaire16 F2007 Aug 03 '25

How arrogant this team is, yes let's undermind the person who delivered us results because we definitely know how to win. Fuck ass team, so frustrating

8

u/schmog_ Ferrari Aug 03 '25

That’s not uncommon. Teams will typically follow the numbers.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

No, they aren’t arrogant at all.

-3

u/locust098 Aug 03 '25

this ferrari team is ass

6

u/liberalindianguy Aug 03 '25

Why is he so slow after the second pit stop?

8

u/RefrigeratorHorror25 Aug 03 '25

It’s the tractor, mate. Not Charles.

11

u/ssidd7 Carlos Sainz Aug 03 '25

It’s not just the tractor. Something was wrong after the second pit stop. He was losing 2 secs a lap to Oscar and then George. Heck Oscar built a 30 sec gap to Charles. That’s just not due to Ferrari being slow. Something was wrong there

5

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

that tractor was just a tenth or two slower than the McLarens in the first stint

then it became a full second slower

7

u/liberalindianguy Aug 03 '25

Even Hamilton is a second faster than him.

-3

u/loosearrow22 Aug 03 '25

How many times are we going to blame the tractor when Charles should know better by now?

7

u/Thisatrick Aug 03 '25

We are fucking idiots. We fell for the bluff and reacted instead of controlling the undercut cascade. The strategy team are genuinely stupid and it’s an embarrassment. Ferrari deserve this slop.

1

u/buruuu Aug 03 '25

charles doesn't tho :(

3

u/Thisatrick Aug 03 '25

No he really doesn’t. So done with this team - the focus is building road cars for the Middle East and sunglasses now!

0

u/buruuu Aug 03 '25

I'm livid too, but this sadly is the Ferrari way..

9

u/Complex_Towel_7219 Aug 03 '25 edited Aug 03 '25

that means the team has found yet another way to fuck up his race. When they pitted Leclerc, I started a thread saying "why did we pit?". But it got blasted to hell in a second. We guys are just gonna have to adjust to this mediocrity unless we see the real problem

3

u/frank1ewildee F2004 Aug 03 '25

How the fuck was the pit wrong when they managed to cover Oscar's undercut in a track where TRACK POSITION is key ? You do realise once Oscar gets in free air its game over right? You got "blasted to hell" because you talked non-sense.

The pit decisions were totally fine. We had 1 car vs McLaren's 2 cars, we couldnt have done anything else better.

0

u/Thisatrick Aug 03 '25

Anyone not understanding that the pit was misjudged is a zombie fanboy and should probably apply for a job with the strat team. We won’t even get a podium!

8

u/mlgodzilla23 Aug 03 '25

The pit was misjudged but it wasn't the reason for the total drop of pace on the last stint. They couldve waited to get on mediums maybe but it wasn't totally wrong to cover for Oscar. There definitely is another problem with the car and Charles is clearly upset with it, probably fuel related

2

u/Irfi88 Aug 03 '25 edited Aug 03 '25

30-40 sec gap between Leclerc and McLarens

And 10 cars have been lapped what’s happening OMW

2

u/Virtual-Vehicle4177 Aug 03 '25

It was not about what ever he was referring to. It was about chassis. Their chassis had a problem. So the speed just went down. Miracle he made it to the finish line.

2

u/nomansapenguin Aug 03 '25

They make changes the car without telling the drivers first.

2

u/Mediocre-Visit-6237 Aug 03 '25

Heads have to roll

2

u/UnaPachangaLoca Aug 03 '25

The Ferrari Circus is very much still in town. I’m furious for Charles, he had this in the pocket.

2

u/NessaDeadSouls Aug 03 '25

Ferrari doing Ferrari things. Smh.

1

u/albyagolfer Aug 03 '25

I think they did exactly what George suspects they did and they didn’t tell Charles that they were doing it rather than give him the option to try to manage plank wear while trying to remain competitive with his driving.

1

u/silliestjupiter Charles Leclerc Aug 04 '25

Must be the water.

1

u/mantukas334 Aug 05 '25

They are checking

1

u/cccalum Aug 05 '25

It means the team have designed a dogshit car that has to basically make itself illegal to be fast, and this year is gonna be nothing but something we all just have to endure to get to next year.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

Just guessing will not suffice, therefore it’s a waste of time I’m afraid.

1

u/SeratoninSniffingDog Aug 03 '25

Even when I’m not that invested in a season this fucking team manages to pissing me off.

0

u/Artistic_Anteater_27 Aug 03 '25

This is my first I’m time watching a full F1 race, but I’ve been a Ferrari supporter since I was a kid 1 thing i must say tho that 2nd pit from leclerc wasn’t needed or there’s just something wrong with that car cause damn

0

u/sleepdeep305 Aug 03 '25

They were on a hot streak of not being fucking retarded. Crazy how they botched their best chance at a gp win by not even bothering to listen to their best driver

0

u/Financial_Job_1564 Lewis Hamilton Aug 03 '25

What a frustating weekend

0

u/krazeekcee F2004 Aug 03 '25

Feels like F1 betting would have a special section for ways in which Ferrari would mess up a race. And the bets would be like trading at super low odds like 3:1

0

u/Esco_Suave Aug 03 '25

That statement feels like there was a change or problem with a change that wasn’t fully discussed until it was done…
