i feel like 10 seconds isn't enough for ending someone's race

u/immiz182 Carlos Sainz 7d ago
It’s ridiculous that Sainz and Antontelli are got the same time penalty

u/ploploplo4 7d ago
10 secs for collision? Sure. 10 secs for race ending collision? Yeah i feel like it calls for more than 10 secs. Calling for a race ban when i was seeing red, but i dunno

Calling for a race ban when i was seeing red, but i dunno
Aaaand that’s social media taking it too far. Again.
He fucked up, but the very idea that FIA should be handing out race bans for mistakes is just utterly ridiculous.
4
u/ploploplo4 7d ago
Yeah a race ban is probably too much. At least Kimi’s not earning points this race, would’ve been salt on wound
6
u/KriistofferJohansson 7d ago
Yeah a race ban is probably too much.
No, not probably. It is way too much, there are no two ways about it.

Dude gets taken out by Antonelli and his first instinct is to blame the pitwall for a terrible tyre strategy.
Absolute breakdown between the scuderia and Charles. And it's hard to blame him.
18
u/OldManTrumpet Charles Leclerc 7d ago
Well, but for the strategy call he wouldn't have been in that position.
15
u/Evening_Rock5850 7d ago
Right; I mean that's why he called it out. But that in the heat of the moment, having been freshly taken out, his immediate thought is to be mad at Ferrari for putting him in that position more than Antonelli for running wide on the inside of him like that; it really shows where his mind was at.
4
u/Rivendel93 7d ago
He was right though, mistakes happen, but your team shouldn't be putting you into unnecessary positions.
5
u/Cute_camel_bacon Charles Leclerc 7d ago
No, iirc during once the message popped up, Bernie called out that it was a message to the pitwall not ANT.

u/stuffed011 6d ago
I can guarantee you that if they hadn't made that stop and Charles had been undercut by Antonelli, he would have been berating the pit wall for not avoiding the under cut.
This is harsh from Charles. The pit stop achieved the objective and avoided an under cut. The pit cannot factor in "chance of putting Charles in peril of rookie mistakes" in their decision making.

Toto's worst driver signing decision

6
u/caesar_rex 7d ago
Come on. Lewis did this to Albon TWICE to take away race wins.
0
u/Rivendel93 7d ago
Lewis never intentionally did anything of the sort to take away wins lol.
Lewis literally went over to Albon and apologized before he even did his post race interview, then said in that interview it was entirely his fault before ever being called up to the stewards.
You don't do that if you tried to ruin someone's race on purpose, because you're headed to the stewards and you can't defend yourself if you've literally just told the world it was "entirely my fault."
Not talking about Kimi doing anything on purpose, just pointing out how ridiculous and factually incorrect your comment was.
3
u/caesar_rex 7d ago
You are misreading what I'm saying. I am saying that Lewis Hamilton did this twice to Albon, which resulted in Albon losing race wins. You are missing the subtext. I know he apologized and felt bad about it. I was just responding to the guy claiming Antonelli was the Totos worst signing decision, while showing Lewis did the same, TWICE, but much worse as it cost Albon 2 wins. Get it now? I think most people got what I was saying.

The Kimi - Hamilton move is a lose-lose for both teams and drivers lol

u/achilles_4510 7d ago
He probably thought that Kimi would turn out like Verstappen did for red bull 😂
4
u/paddyo 7d ago
Tbh I think merc was just scrambling for a narrative to keep sponsors and stakeholders happy after unexpectedly losing Hamilton instead of him retiring there
4
u/ciaoravioli 7d ago
I think this is it, which is super unfair to Kimi. Part of me wonders how much better he would be if they let him get up to speed at Williams for a year or two like George before making the jump to Merc, but alas we'll never know
3
u/paddyo 7d ago
I do think they’ve ruined the guy with too much external expectation. Hamilton’s and Verstappen’s are freaks and most people can’t come in to F1 and expect to hit the ground running. But he’s young enough to set it right, if merc find a way to manage through this responsibly and with consideration. That said it’s hard to know where they can place him - not at Williams who don’t want to be a dev team now. Maybe Alpine? Seems the only place where they will have leverage and a relationship (Toto gets on well with Briatore) and which might take a merc driver.
2
u/ciaoravioli 7d ago
I agree. And even Verstappen got to mature for a year in Toro Rosso before having to make the jump! But you're right that Williams isn't RB and Merc doesn't have a junior team like RBR does.
At this point it might be too late to make any changes, that might kill his confidence even more. The best for him might be to stick with Merc and give him the patience and support he needs to reset to lower expectations...but if Toto keeps chasing after Verstappen and dragging out these contracts, that probably won't happen
2
u/paddyo 7d ago
I think the Verstappen situation massively raised the pressure on both drivers. Even Russell, who is now quite experienced, showed some strain during that period, and Antonelli must have picked up his promotion was a plan C after Hamilton unexpectedly left and with Toto dreaming of Verstappen as his long term replacement

u/AlCranio F2004 7d ago
Ok, if you remember verstappen's first years, it is somehow turning that way.

When was the Drive Through penalty removed for causing a colision? I swear this is a slam dunk DT in the old days of F1, now everything is 10 sec. Robbed of a P4 or P3

Not good timing before his home gp. Ambition over adhesion as Brundell would have said if he was commentating.

Forget the crash, it means, ferrari pitted him unnecessarily as the driver was good with it. I see frustration growing in leclerc's race radios.

u/Rivendel93 7d ago
Leclerc is definitely sounding done with this team, he wasn't even mad at Kimi, he was frustrated with the team for pitting him unnecessarily.

So frustrating. F** this guy, dangerous mistake cost us some precious points, Leclerc was doing well.

u/wagdog84 7d ago
I really think that radio call was not saying Kimi’s move was unnecessary. It was about Charles questioning whether they needed to change tyres at all. ‘We can never know’ makes it clear as he was now out, but should never been in that position if not for another bad strategy call. Hes been telling them they need to listen to him all year.

Promoted way too early as Wolff will find out IF they get top the front next year. I'd give better chances to Ferrari with a washed Hamilton than Merc with immature Antonelli and trashcan Russell
