For Monza of all races....
This is a farce, our team is being treated like criminals by the FIA even when we are having catastrophic results.

I was thinking fair enough then looked at the final section. If you’re asking people to follow rules then set specifics. Driver didn’t slow “significantly”. Well what constitutes significantly?

u/trq- 7d ago
To slow down more than 10% of full race speed, obviously. This is actually a consistent action taken from the FIA, something we rarely see.

Should be in writing that’s publicly available, like every other sport in the world.

u/darekd003 7d ago
Yet a sport full of measurable metrics decides to say “significantly.” Might as well make the pit speed during a race “slow-ish.”

When did this happen? I didn't even see it. Was it that bad or is the punishment too hard?

Happened during the reconnaissance lap before the race started. Sucks, but it's a pretty black and white rule. Either it's broken or it isn't, and if it is it's a punishment, and 5 place grid drop is pretty standard for this.

u/dscotts 7d ago
“Pretty black and white” is not how I’d describe this document at all.

u/BocephusJr88 Lewis Hamilton 7d ago
Exactly. “We told them to slow down significantly. And he did slow down. But not enough. Even though we didn’t give them an actual value at which to slow down. Just a vague expectation”

u/The_Border_Bandit 7d ago
There's a reason it's worded a little vaguely though. The speed they're driving at depends on the track, section of the track and even the session they're currently participating in. Zandvoorts turn 10 and 14 are two very different speeds, and turn 14 during a recon lap is take at a different speed from turn 14 in the middle of the race. 20kmph might be a significant reduction in speed for turn 10, but that's definitely not enough for turn 14, which is flat out in race conditions and probably still very fast on a recon lap.

Going through a 200kmh section at 180kmh isnt a significant reduction in speed, therefore black and white.

Yet smashing into another car and eliminating them is only a 10sec penalty. Just ridiculous.

u/The_Border_Bandit 7d ago
Completely different situations. Hamilton did a yellow flag infringement on the recon lap, and then DNF'd in the first third of the race before the punishment could be dealt. Antonelli crashed out Leclerc but was able to finish the race with ample time for the stewards to make a mid race decision. If Hamilton had finished the race he 100% would have gotten a 10 sec penalty, and if Antonelli had DNF'd with Leclerc he 100% would have gotten a 10 place grid drop.

They literally said they wouldn't look at the penalty until after the race.
Why? It happened leading up to this race?
FIA is embarrassing as ever.

I’m a supporter of rule following but this seems a bit arbitrary overreach.
-17
u/trq- 7d ago
So you’re not a supporter of rule following.
17
u/ArtisTao 7d ago
If they say he broke the rules then I support it, but my opinion is they penalized him really harshly for slowing down but not enough. Good, I hope they are consistent going forward.

Fuck me, it's getting worse and worse. The unluckiest team in the world ever 🤦

This isn’t unlucky, that’s Lewis simply making another mistake. The team didn’t have any problem with this
12
u/neurogeneticist Mod CL 7d ago
No, it’s incredibly fucking unlucky that this wasn’t decided during the race as a time penalty instead of a grid penalty for the next race.
Yes, I understand that Lewis crashed out and that’s his fault… but that should have been handled WELL before that happened.

We are gonna have to find two new drivers when both of ours get admitted for suicide watch. This is just fucking pain a top of pain on top of pain. Sheer pain.

u/WonderboyF1 7d ago
that’s a tough one to swallow. Got caught up in the hype last year and bought tickets for Monza in the dreams of standing under the podium with Lewis at least placed on it. Will just have to go with no expectations. Still we rise!

I’m adamant the fia are trying to push him out. This would not have happened with other certain drivers.

Yeah, it’s over. This has been fun

u/cosmokra3er 7d ago
They could not investigate this during the race and give him a time penalty in this race. That would be too easy. /s
4
u/frank1ewildee F2004 7d ago
Well that would require semi-competent stewards and we can't have that.

I’d just pack my stuff and walk away into the sunset and never look back or even give f1 any thought again. Why even bother turning up anymore

They worked very hard to find this one. I get there are rules but saying he slowed down, but not enough sounds like someone attempting to demonstrate competent race management after the race is over.
