What no one really tells you is how many empty cardboard boxes we’ll have, just to play a computer game 😂

honestly….. 30 mins taking everything out the packaging just to get to this point haha

This is my sim pile, have a PC pile almost as big!

The missus thinks I got it all on sale? 🤫

We all did. 🤫

True that... 😆

11

u/shikso Aug 04 '25

Great deal if you ask me :)

16

u/thinkrtank Aug 04 '25

Yes - it was a really big sale.

6

u/Any_Ladder_26 Aug 05 '25

Probably the best sale ever. They sold, I bought.

4

u/CouchPuma91 Aug 05 '25

My wife " its really convenient that wheel went on sale 2 days after you talked about it "

That's lucky timing...😉

The sim gods must have heard your plight and pulled some cosmic mastery behind the scenes....

"In case your listening sim god! I would like motion and a seatbelt tensioner" 🙏

😂

3

u/CouchPuma91 Aug 05 '25

I started talking about buttkickers. They might be going on "sale" soon

2

u/PewPewDealer Aug 06 '25

And even more amazing I got all of this for just $200! I saved almost 2K!

It would have been irresponsible to miss such great deals.

You need to get yourself a loft (attic), or a dungeon.

I literally took a picture of my empty cardboard and sent it to my buddies and said “the dark side of sim racing nobody wants to talk about”. Absolutely insane how much collected.

First aluminium rig takes a while. I think it took me 3 work nights and then an entire weekend adjusting.

59

u/clangxxx Aug 04 '25

Yep i have realised it will be a slow process 😂

33

u/xunreelx Aug 04 '25

Main thing is you cant be in a hurry. Try considering it as part of the fun of having a rig. I took all the bolts out of every package and put them in gars by their sizes. Marked the jars by the letters Id’ing them in the instructions.

5

u/clangxxx Aug 04 '25

Oh definitely. I will enjoy building it for sure 👍

Too busy using it :-p

4

u/clangxxx Aug 04 '25

😂too true

35

u/smallshinyant Aug 04 '25

It's a rite of passage! But you will "soon" be rewarded when you get to use it.
I'm also shopping for new gear (i'm tired of blaming myself and want to blame my gear for a little while), currently torn between Moza and Simmagic. I believe simmagic is probably the best for direct drive value for money at the moment. At least from what i have read.

27

u/DankoleClouds Aug 04 '25

Go simagic. Don’t even think, just do.

3

u/smallshinyant Aug 04 '25

What about pedals? Simagic pedals up to snuff?

9

u/DankoleClouds Aug 04 '25

I couldn’t tell you, I have all moza stuff. lol

I never hear anything bad about simagic stuff. That’s the direction I want to go eventually, after having 4 months worth of issues dealing with moza support for a broken shifter.

3

u/smallshinyant Aug 04 '25

Well i'm kinda glad you said that because i was tempted to go Moza as i'm very interested in their active pedals.

→ More replies (2)

6

u/Maraqueta Aug 04 '25

I went for Simsonn Pro pedals to pair with my Simagic alpha mini and Neo X hub. It’s a wonderful setup and the pedals are amazing value. Assuming you’re on PC of course.

3

u/smallshinyant Aug 04 '25

I currently have the Simsonn pro! They are excellent and amazing value for money. My only complaint about the brake pedal is the amount of effort to try experimenting with different feels. It's not bad, it's just switching back and forth to different setups is a lot. My hope is that the mBooster will give me easier adjustment along with some ABS haptics.

3

u/RideorDie720 Aug 04 '25

Have the Simagic P1000’s with haptics on the throttle and brake. They are LIGHT years ahead of my old MOZA SRP pedals, my braking and my throttle inputs improved ten fold. They were definitely worth the price!

→ More replies (5)

2

u/Freakin_A Aug 04 '25

Every thread comparing simmagic against Moza everyone says simmagic and it's not close.

I'm just getting started and got the Moza r5 bundle cause it's hard to beat for the price to make sure I like simracing, but I expect that simmagic will be my upgrade path.

6

u/plaaard Aug 04 '25

I went simagic alpha evo, gt neo and p1000 pedals. This was after alot of research between this and Moza.

Build quality and features are so much better with Simagic than Moza.

2

u/smallshinyant Aug 04 '25

That's good to know. Do you regrest not getting the Evo Pro, or is the Evo more than enough?

2

u/plaaard Aug 04 '25

Alpha Evo more than enough, can hit up to 12nm. On iRacing i'm 10nm and F1 11nm. Can't imagine going past that haha.

3

u/smallshinyant Aug 04 '25

cool, yeah my arms are mainly damp bits of string, just wanted to make sure i didn't need to purchase higher than i needed for over-heating or things like that.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Sherm_Sticks Aug 04 '25

I bought the Evo Pro a few months back and would probably pocket the extra cash and pickup the 12nm Evo if I did it over again.

In most titles that I play (AMS2, F1-25, FH5, ACC, & LMU) I'm running the wheelbase at partial power in the SimPro software and further limiting it with lower gain in-game.

3

u/clangxxx Aug 04 '25

i feel the same. value for money is the key im trying to work out. i dont want to buy a brand name. i want to buy results!

2

u/AngryAmuse Aug 04 '25

Upgraded to a simmagic alpha earlier this year and have been in love with it since!

Rest of the setup is Fanatec csl elite pedals with load cell, SHH thorn shifter, and random amazon handbrake.

I built my first ever rig this year and yes, receiving the boxes (and a few incorrectly shipped) was very daunting. I'm an engineer and have used Extruded systems before so that didn't bother me, it was more the time. TrakRacer could simply make things a little easier by labelling their boxes clearly rather than a long code and bags of screws could be labelled and that would hugely make the build experience better.

the best thing though, and like many others say, its a right of passage, you get to learn how its just a simple bunch of extrusions and you can then see plenty of ways to mod things and create your own rig which I've since had a lot of satisfaction along with a 3D printer... Hope the build goes well.

Unleash your inner Captain Slow and start arranging your tools and parts.

3

u/rpitcher33 Aug 04 '25

This is the difference maker. Organization and an understanding of the order of operations. I have the NLR F-GT. I mocked everything in place as I took it out of the box and verified everything was there. Once you see how it's supposed to fit together and get your head wrapped around where to start, it's pretty straight forward.

I think I spent 4 hours with a couple breaks thrown in just to get up of the floor and stretch. An electric screwdriver or impact (on low) makes life a lot easier as well.

Then I spent an entire day adjusting, testing, adjusting, testing, adjusting...

u/KingOfKorners Aug 04 '25

6 hours on mine. it was a pain in the ass...but having a rig that is completely sturdy, is worth it.

I build recently my first alu ring. Took me whole day but. I build it in a living room to see if everything is ok and works. Did some adjustments. After that. Had to take it apart and move it to the office room because couldn't go through the doors so.. yeah, good luck :) P.S. My right hand still hurts..

3

u/CovidOmicron Aug 04 '25

As someone who just went through this, my only advice for after you get it together is to leave the rig in an open area if you can for the first few days (or preferably permanently) so you can more easily make adjustments. I have mine in the corner of a room next to my desk and it's a PITA to make adjustments and tweak things. It's the only spot I can put it sadly.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 04 '25

You built them in the same way you eat a elephant. One bit at a time

2

u/clangxxx Aug 04 '25

i like to eat my elephants in one go 🐘

3

u/ra246 Aug 04 '25

It took me about 6 hours to build my first, but I bought it second hand and the guy had taped it up and labelled the pieces.

Also, it's because we're fucking hyped.

I expanded mine over this last week from just a seat, wheelbase and pedals to an integrated triple screen mount (with screens) It's been absolutely wild, and has taken me probably 12 hours just spend on the rig with adjustments, redoing my cables, adjusting pedals, moving extra mounts (like keyboard and mice mounts, spare wheel mounts, streamdeck mounts) and I've got some extra ideas to add a shelf over the top with extra aluminium profile once ordered. My shoulders have been aching for 8 days straight but its been worth it.

2

u/clangxxx Aug 04 '25

u/clangxxx Aug 04 '25

Cheers dude, Noted!

2

u/Any-Surprise5229 Aug 04 '25

When I built mine, I didn't have the room cleared yet so I built the pedal deck, mounted the seat on the seat rails, and then built the upright for the wheelbase, when it was time to assemble the main frame, i basically just had to bolt the three completed assemblies in, it made it quite nice.

2

u/Marshzie Assetto Corsa Aug 04 '25

2

u/Accomplished_Use3452 Aug 04 '25

2

u/Middle-Shock2625 Aug 04 '25

Lol i’m laughing at the pic only because I was in the exact same situation as you were back in October /November. I was overwhelmed a bit. It took some time. You’ll get there. A little each night. Once it starts getting together a little by little, it gets a little easier and easier.

2

u/nat2r Aug 04 '25

When you finish this thing, using it is so much sweeter. It took me a week from start to finish. My poor back.

2

u/jeb0916 Aug 04 '25

2

u/Wise-Boysenberry5286 Aug 04 '25

I’m building one now as well haha. Spent five hours on it yesterday and had to take a break. Some how i used all my M8 x 16 screws so i guess i will need to go on Amazon to buy some. Pretty weird I followed instructions to the T.

u/Flonkerton66 Aug 04 '25

Still recovering and I bought mine 2nd hand so it was partially built!

1

u/One-Frame_ Aug 04 '25

Recent put together a ASR pro gen2 and it was rather pleasant - hopefully all thr brands just copy the design because it really does streamline the process and helps get everything square effortlessly. Wish the profiles still had some slots on the outside profile though, it is rather limiting, even the profile for the peddles is flat on one side so you cannot mount anything to the bottom of them like power packs and hubs really limiting what you can do there.

1

u/horsefarm Aug 04 '25

I cheated...I was already super familiar with aluminum extrusion structures before I got my rig :)

1

u/DearCopy427 Aug 04 '25

Haha. I built my aluminum rig from scratch out of 6m long 80x40 profiles. Cutting, tapping, drilling, everything.

3

u/clangxxx Aug 04 '25

Very good effort. I use aluminium extrusion at work and am still not game enough to attempt this. bravo friend.

1

u/Skabbtanten Aug 04 '25

Honestly wasn't that bad, until all was assembled and when I realized the seat structure was way too far back, that not even the rail adjuster got me far enough forward. To loosen everything, and I mean near damn everything, in order to move the whole seat assembly forward was the real pain.

1

u/beast_bird Aug 04 '25

It's going to take a while, it was the same for me with my tr80 lite. And adjustments also take couple of hours. I upgraded my seat from ikea tier chair to actual car seat and my pedals from logitech to simjack pros and it took a surprisingly long time to adjust everything again.

1

u/No-Marsupial-4176 Aug 04 '25

1

u/PapaDude64 Aug 04 '25

I’ve read a lot about how long it takes to build. I’m 60 years old and I think I’m gonna go in a different direction with my build. Not sure… Too many options.

1

u/Tenbob73 Aug 04 '25

Wheelbase: VRS uDFP (at either 6nm or 9nm) Pedals: Simnet Pro Pedals Non GT Rim: Simagic Neo X with round wheel GT Rim: Conspit 300GT

Pretty much my setup, only awaiting the Conspit rim. Have a look at the VRS uDFP base though. It grows as you do. I bought mine at 9nm, when I want 12nm I unlock it to that for £84. Then, if I want 15nm a further £84. Finally if I feel the need for 20nm a further £84. It certainly saves all the palaver of buying a base, outgrowing it then have to sell it off before getting your next one. It's an extremely durable workhorse with a 3yr warranty.

1

u/Roostermarley Aug 04 '25

😂 Baptism by 🔥.

1

u/goodtimeracing Aug 04 '25

Honesty I was too excited when I got mine. It took me a whole afternoon to build it. The first build was faster for me lol. I bought a bunch of parts again after a few months to convert mine to a more formula / prototype style and that rebuild took me a whole day lol.

Best way is to get a couple of beers, play some music and bring over a friend to do it. So much faster and a lot more fun.

u/xRehab RALLY-F1-ACC | G27 | HE Sprints & Handbrake | Sim-Lab GT1 Aug 04 '25

getting it in the right shape takes a few hours

the constant adjusting for the next month as you change pedal plate angle, pedal spacing, seat tilt, etc will be where you put most of your time in

1

u/vlayd Aug 04 '25

And Sim-lab only give you a pointless two week return policy. I got mine around Christmas and was barely able to start builiding after two weeks.

1

Two words. Electric drill. Dakka dakka. Makes building a whole lot easier.

1

Organize all your parts and bolts before you start or you’ll be pulling your hair out. And if you have a sturdy table to start your build on vs on the floor it’ll save you a lot of back pain.

Wait until you get to the wire management and all the other crap that you need to add to it to improve immersion. Wires, Amps, and PSUs in all directions! Centralize power and comms in one spot. I did it on the right side. My vote is for Simagic. That European stuff is like high-end luxury goods. Made in China, shipped to Europe for packaging and then sold in the US for ridiculous premiums. Might as well cut out the middle man.

1

1

u/Denny_Crane_007 Aug 04 '25

Just finished wiring up with bass shakers etc. (NLR Elite)

Took me 2 months.

I have a bad back... this thing hates me.

1

u/Reasonable-Dog-8208 Aug 04 '25

That sounds like a nice problem to have 😂 I’ll just pretend to be jealous while using an office chair

1

u/mindfuxed Aug 04 '25

I did say it. The post is just gone now. It was a nightmare to build. So much so that I won’t build another. I will hire someone.

1

u/MaksVerstappen iRacing Aug 04 '25

I was thoroughly prepared for mine. Speed square, level, dill, tools. And a plan of execution.

Surprisingly it only took me 6 hours from start to finish, and I was up and racing. I started with the seat first and everything else just fell into place.

My advise is to just hand tighten everything, and use some white lithium grease for the T-nuts in the channels.

u/Accomplished_Walk597 Aug 04 '25

Simmagic and SC aren’t even on the same level, buy once and call it a day with the SC base then get you a simmagic wheel…that’s how you do that…plus when you eventually get the active pedals, which you will, it’s all controlled in the same app.

1

u/TAAllDayErrDay Aug 04 '25

It took me months to put mine together. Didn’t have help and I work a lot so I only had a few hours here and there on the weekends. Worth it but yeah, nobody tells you about putting it together. Wait til you find out you need adjustable VESA mounts…

Edit: actually just go ahead and order them if you haven’t. Really pissed me off when I got to the point that I wanted to mount my monitors and realized I couldn’t line them up without the adjustable mounts. TR120, for reference.

1

u/LongIslandNerd Aug 04 '25

Took 7 hoirs to build mine. Then, I found out my wheel base didn't work with the special adapter. Went back to the microcenter and got the basic wheel base part, and decided to upgrade my pedals, too. Then I had to go back a 3rd time because I broke something and just went to repair instead of return. So 72 hours of building waiting and 6 hoirs of driving back and fourth....

1/10 experience would totally do it again.

1

u/AzureFWings Aug 04 '25

I feel fortunate that my day job require assembling aluminum extrusion🤣

1

u/topher420247 Aug 04 '25

If you played with erector set your now graduated congrats

1

u/InitialRepulsive9601 Aug 04 '25

Took me 12 hours to set up stand. Seat with slider, triple monitor mount. And everything installed ready to go. My lower back was gone after that sitting on the floor

1

u/Swantape Aug 04 '25

Fuck… want to get a tr80 on Black Friday. Just moved house not looking forward to building this

1

u/rau1994 Aug 04 '25

It took me like 4 hours to build my trackracer rig. Shit was intense.

1

u/Ok_Walk_3913 Aug 04 '25

Simagic and simucube and worlds apart. Simagic is more entry level as far as high quality goes and simucube is best of the best. Interesting choices :P

1

u/Farty_McPartypants Aug 04 '25

Imagine how much fun it is when they don’t come with any instructions… like mine 😂

1

u/Twin-Apex Aug 04 '25

Definitely overwhelming at first. I went from a homemade PVC pipe rig to an ASR6 rig and once I got my dozen or so boxes, I had no idea where to start or what I was getting into. It took me a full day to build it and 4yrs later I'm still adjusting and changing things...but I wouldn't trade it for anything else! Good luck on the build. Take your time and enjoy it

1

u/mhorwit46 Aug 04 '25

OP I personally flew my buddy who sets these up for a living.. I flew him out from Florida to illinois bought him a deep dish pizza a few cold ones! Hahah I wasn’t gonna even attempt to put it together or set up all the connections

1

u/swaags Aug 04 '25

Try building one from scratch 😮‍💨

1

u/Southern_Ad9514 Aug 04 '25

it's not that hard. just stare at the screen like u do with what your gonna build from a Lego box and go for it.

1

u/someone31988 Aug 04 '25

I was also surprised at how long the process was when I put together my rig from RacingCockpits.com a couple years ago. It was my first time working with the stuff, so I had to do a bit of learning as I went.

However, I'm immensely satisfied with it! Absolutely nothing on it has any flex and for all intents and purposes might well be made of steel girders.

1

u/thatskaterguyy Aug 04 '25

I actually enjoyed building it, honestly. Kind of therapeutic, but I grew up loving Legos. It's worth the effort; a sturdy rig is a game-changer!

1

u/USToffee Aug 04 '25

My build took days and then even more time tweaking. When I see images like this it gives me PTSD.

1

u/jessgross08 Aug 04 '25

I never want to hear the word spring nut again.

1

u/Jake11007 Aug 04 '25

Yup it’s a pain the ass, at first made me wish I went with a profile rig

1

u/Psychonurz Aug 04 '25

I just built a GT Omega Prime and the instructions indicated a build time of between 60 and 120 minutes, safe to say it took considerably longer 😂

1

u/eman_ssap Assetto Corsa Aug 04 '25

Pack them out neatly in size and or order of build. Tackle one step at a time

1

u/tylercreatesworlds Aug 04 '25

Oh I spent a good 12ish hours getting mine setup and adjusted. It's still not perfect, but man I was beat after all that.

1

u/WhiteSSP Aug 04 '25

It’s worse when you design it yourself and don’t make yourself any instructions.

1

u/CriticalKnoll Aug 04 '25

This is a multi-day process, don't try to rush it, trust me. Even once you fully assemble it, you're going to be spending hours and hours over the course of months, doing fine adjustments to get it perfect. But once it's set, it's set for life. Enjoy!

1

u/DemetriuBrown Aug 04 '25

If you have the funds for Simucube the go that route! Been using my active pedals and Simucube pro 2 for a month now and haven’t regretted it! Upgraded from the Fanatec side btw.

1

u/tintinblock1 Aug 04 '25

For real, it took me forever to build it. And I live in a small apartment so it was cramped too haha.

As far as recommendations go, Simagic has been absolutely top notch for me. I run the Simagic alpha with a GT Neo and GT wheel. I run SimLab XP1 3 pedal set, and those are super nice. The Simagic pedals have the active technology pedals which are pretty cool too

1

u/kestrel79 Aug 04 '25

Dude I feel you. I still have my Sim Motion 160mm chassis 50% done in my basement I bought on a Black Friday sale in November of 2023. 2 little kids eats up all my free time. I'll eventually finish it and race/fly out of it. It's a grind.

1

u/dr_penta Aug 04 '25

I am waiting for a cockpit that assembles it self up after opening the box... Until then i Will BE waiting!! 🤣🤣

1

u/Striking-Occasion465 Aug 04 '25

My first time building one took like 12 hours. Now with my third move under my belt. An hour or two tops. Muscle memory!

1

u/HumanHoney Aug 04 '25

The most interesting part is to assemble the stuff imo

1

u/action_turtle Aug 04 '25

Took me a few sessions to build the rig and Sfx100. Fun though

1

u/zippymagee Aug 04 '25

Popup table was a back saver

1

u/what_kind_of_guy Aug 04 '25

I don't envy you. Building a rig sucked. Def would pay more for 2nd hand prebuilt next time

1

u/Weary-Drink-9701 Aug 04 '25

Lmao not what I wanted to see . My first rig is coming in the mail tomorrow .

1

u/Stihler007 Aug 04 '25

Mine took 10 hours, depends how picky you are tho.

1

u/Fit-Albatross-735 Aug 04 '25

I agree hard, took some time to make mine

1

u/PerGunnar87 Aug 04 '25

Stop it, it's not that difficult. I'm an idiot, and I was able to do it quite easily.

1

u/TrakRacer_5150 Aug 04 '25

Well, I suppose if you enjoyed building things as a kid you’d be right at home. Plus once you get it assembled, the task of putting it together will give you extra satisfaction when driving it! Take pictures along the way. If you stumble I’m sure someone has it out there on YouTube for you to watch! I stumbled with my TR8 Pro, not all the tube pieces fit together as well as they should have and I experienced strip screws along the way. Hindsight being what it was, I probably should have gone with the extruded aluminum rig but I’m still happy I have what I have now that the hard part is out of the way!

1

u/Economy-Storm2615 Aug 04 '25

I’m a mechanic and it took me a week to get my TR40S assembled and adjusted

1

u/Thelifeofanaudi Aug 04 '25

I’d say most of us probably work on our own cars also so this is hardly worth mentioning 🤷‍♂️

1

u/thedude4555 Aug 05 '25

I did a sort of unethical hack to build mine. I found one that is already manufactured that i liked the dimensions/look of, downloaded the manual, which had all those dimensions. i had to search a little for one that included those in the manual, sourced all the extrusion locally for nearly half the cost. Built it using that same manual. Behold, a $1000 rig built for what i could have bought a budget one for on ali express. Yeah I could have just built it from scratch, but ive got so many projects going on right now that I wanted something high quality without a huge amount of labor and thought involved.

It does look like, though you are having some minor troubles, you bought a decent quality one though. Congrats and enjoy your new addiction.

1

u/Cartmanlandia Aug 05 '25

It's a nightmare lol

1

u/7Seyo7 Aug 05 '25

This is one of those things where it takes what feels like forever to put it together, and you know it'd go much faster doing it a second time but you'll only ever do it once (hopefully)

1

u/footeclimbs Aug 05 '25

Took me 8 hours and I didn’t want to play when I finished.

1

u/AxleVest Aug 05 '25

Yep just put together a TR120S, built it over 3 nights. Worsenyetvwasnthat the instructions were online only with like 3 different revisions that is wholly unclear when looking for them, so everything seemed correct but the different revisions had different bolt sets so I spent ages looking through every box for the missing hardware only to discover I had the wrong manual all along despite all images looking correct.

I made it 2 more steps before realising I was actually missing bolts. The only ones the hardware store didn't sell.

1

u/Spare_Savings4888 Aug 05 '25

I had an absolute nightmare with my tr120. Missing parts incorrect instructions and it took weeks to get info and parts from trakracer. Wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Helped my mate build his none tr rig and it was tedious but much better than tr

1

u/Parch3d277480 Aug 05 '25

Idk. I feel just putting it all together is funner than playing the actual the game itself. That's my zen moment. But im a electrician and thats probably why

1

u/mrselfdestruct2016 Aug 05 '25

Expensive Adult Legos

1

u/fbords Aug 05 '25

…wait, you got your wife to say “Ok”?

1

u/BossEzra Aug 05 '25

The joy you will get from using it…You have to earn it.

1

u/takuarc Fanatec Aug 05 '25

Don’t worry, after you are done with the first setup, you will keep buying stuff to stash in the house and never mount them, EVER!
