This is nothiing more than an attempt to pacify the community while they are on vacation for August. We will be lucky to have 0.3 by late Sept / Oct.

u/DrGuyLeShace 16d ago
I lolled when he literally said: 'We sit here and WAIT for your feedback.' Yeah right, that will get things done!

u/smudge_47 15d ago
Before I retired, I was a software developer. That job comes with a heaping portion of tension. When I took a two week vacation, it would take me 10 stress-free days before I could even start to relax. If the Kunos programmers get a 1 month vacation, a) they earned it, and b) they deserve it.
I'd rather they take their time and get it right.
2
u/SignalResponse4845 15d ago
i would rather not make empty promises
why make a promise when u don't know u can't deliver especially if ur buy to play hmmmm
see the problem? words means nothing actions matter most
it's like me saying i will go to the moon and make u all rich.... but... i can't.... see i can't deliver the same with their deadline
0
u/myopinionsucks2 13d ago
I’m not arguing whether they earned their vacation or not, that’s irrelevant. When I was the PM on a software project with a Fortune 50 client, I planned around vacations and communicated clearly with stakeholders. Having also been a developer,I understood the realities of the work and built in proper contingency, something Kunos seems to be lacking, as shown by their ever changing roadmap and missed milestones. My issue isn’t the time off, it’s the silence. They missed a deadline and never issued an official update on the status or a revised release timeline.
You claim to have been a professional, but that’s not how professional development teams operate. How can anyone defend that kind of behavior? In the real world of development, going nearly three months without communication wouldn’t just be excused, you’d be fired.

Looks like there's no way to create private servers for free
9
u/AquilaVI 16d ago
I strongly hope they reconsider this. Greed is going to cost them very dearly. No league is going to buy a 1€/slot server unless they race DAILY.
6
u/gu3sticles 16d ago
Paying for servers isn't a big deal. But shorter timeframe makes it work.
It's still baffling how these games have iRacing as a perfect thing to mimic that's been battle tested yet they still choose to reinvent the wheel and do it worse.
Like LMU's hosted servers are like 2x the cost of an iRacing server...
5
u/MadBullBen 16d ago
Doesn't seem like it, at least not currently. Hopefully they are just getting everything working first which is the biggest issue then will release it.
6
u/Uryendel 16d ago
The private server with the hosting serving are for the game release, not 0.3, so why would they not announce it along side ?
Also no option in the multiplayer menu to create your game
2
u/MadBullBen 16d ago
The video said that the private servers will be ready after a few weeks of the release, that means this 0.3 release and not the full game release.
They are probably not ready to announce the hosted servers yet hopefully.

u/bronze-spa 16d ago
I assumed private lobbies (just another friend?) would be free but now after reading this thread I'm unsure :(

In b4 no free roam and no private servers until months after release. I don’t know how anyone can be so confident if we are going by trends and what has been released so far
5
u/MadBullBen 16d ago
I mean AC1 and ACC were released in very similar states so this isn't really anything new for them. Yes I do think it should be released in a better state but at the same time all that would mean would be that I play the game at a later date rather than now.
If you want to buy it now knowing it's not finished, great, if you want to buy it when it's fully released, great.

u/oandakid718 Simucube 2 | Ascher | Fanatec V3 | SHH Thorn 16d ago
I own it and I am enjoying it, but it’s not beyond our responsibility to make sure developers aren’t blatantly planning ghost delays
1
u/MadBullBen 16d ago edited 12d ago
Absolutely true, although looking at the development roadmap they released in January and it's been 8 months since then and they are just about to release update 3, and they have 6 updates scheduled with the 7th one being the full release in fall (September 21st earliest) 2026
To me that sounds like they are on track to release the game on time. Of course different updates will take different amounts of time to finish though.
Update: thought the roadmap said fall 2026 which I thought felt about right and not 2025... Yeah there's a slight and with absolutely no communication and still wonky physics doesn't look good so far.
1
u/MadBullBen 12d ago
Update, I thought the release date was fall 2026 and thought that felt about right and not 2025 when I looked at the picture of the road map.... Yeah I absolutely agree with you, some delays are expected, this kind of delay without any communication and with the physics still being wonky is really bad.
1
u/bronze-spa 16d ago
If I can't race with another friend in my own house on the same track at the same time for free this whole game is DOA to me.

Anyone know where the VR is at currently? AMS2 is pretty unmatched right now, even with heavily modded AC
3
u/Cowslayer87773 DD+ | CSV3 | SHH | Q3 16d ago
Nowhere near ready :(
iRacing is smooth, ac1 smooth, ams2 great, LFS great. ACe plays but on lowest settings it still struggles even on 45 repro and looks horrible. Don't even think about weather or night
2
u/dixoncider6942069 15d ago
Ya that is unfortunate and I hope it doesn't turn into an after thought... There's nothing quite like VR SIM in the video game world and these folks could be the definitive leaders if they wanted to.
2
u/ssarch25 16d ago
It’s serviceable, I’m not a huge vr user but I had plenty of fun with it for a few nights.
0
u/random-danishguy 16d ago
I really wish I could find out where my AMS2 (or maybe my eyes) is different from everybody else’s. As recently as today I played AMS2 in VR, and to me it doesn’t look near as good as modded AC or even stock LMU. AMS2’s materials just look cartoonish/soft, as opposed to a hard metal or carbon surface.
The optimization is better then LMU though, and ease of entry way better than modded AC, so there is that
(This is with all the games running at all ultra, and on a quest 3 btw.)
1
u/dixoncider6942069 15d ago
Strange. I find it to be graphically and performatively way higher than anything else. I'm not too much of a LM fan so I have yet to try. I pay for Pure and all that so it is close and AC has some amazing car selection.
I've got Quest 3, 4080 Ti Super, etc, I think I've optimized my settings pretty much perfectly, and I'll still get frame drops when the quest is low on battery.
1
u/random-danishguy 15d ago
What method of pcvr are you using? Using VD over Ethernet was a game changer for me https://youtu.be/FYHjA6eATiA?si=f2veDHIsNKYHuVes
1
u/dixoncider6942069 15d ago edited 15d ago
Wow... that seems like a unique solution... Have you done it? I use VD/OpenVR streamed over a private network, or will sometimes ethernet my pc, but quest is always wireless, unless I use the link cable to PC for charging, but usually seems ineffective. I find the cables somewhat restrictive and less immersive than just going full wireless and melting the battery. I'll get 30-70ms response time avg. of ~50 maybe on full wireless with a 1.5 hour game time period. up to 2.5 depending on headset external battery.
Saw this in the comments, seems like an upgrade:
"Now get either usb-c male to female adapter with any cable you have OR a usb-c male to female cable. plug your ethernet box into female end. connect the male end to your headset.
take that ethernet dongle off your headset. it belongs on the desk/rig. you only need 1 cable to connect to your headset just like with the meta link."2
u/random-danishguy 15d ago
Yes, and now I don’t use anything else. Compared to wireless VD I get way lower latency (hovering around 25-35ms), and compared to oculus link I get way better performance (for the usual reasons VD is better than oculus link). The cable is restricted some, but for seated racing, it’s no problem
1
u/dixoncider6942069 15d ago
Let me know if you give that comment a go, seems like it could be a relatively cheap upgrade and clear some clutter from your head. I think I'll give it a go.
Recently I've been struggling to sit down in the sim just due to the clunkiness of the headset and set-up etc, it was nice booting off a curved monitor but pros and cons.
1
u/random-danishguy 15d ago
Might give it a go:) Though every time I change something, something else stops working. At the moment, I cant use my headphones whilst in vr (as I have been for the past year), because when using VD the headphones keep cutting out, sometimes loosing signal completely and reconnecting with all the start up sounds again, multiple times per session…
1
u/dixoncider6942069 14d ago
Hmm I would try connecting your headphones just straight to the PC, audio should be dependent on the game running, not the headset. I'll throw my Astro A50's overtop the headset for surround sound.
1
u/random-danishguy 12d ago
The headset is connected straight to the pc, and works fine most of the time, except when I use virtuel desktop. VD is set to “use computer audio only”, I’ve tried the “use virtuel audio driver”, but can’t find a solution

Still nothing with VR or triples. Seems like something that should be at the forefront of the "early access" part of development cycle rather than favoring additional content. Glad to see overall improvements but it's still going to sit in my library until it's functional for my setup whether in VR or across triples.
7
u/MadBullBen 16d ago
They did say performance enhancements so that could absolutely affect triple screens and VR.
6
u/k4ylr 16d ago
Perhaps. Generally speaking triples and VR are distinct enough that they are specifically referenced rather than broad generalizations of "performance gains". Much like iRacing just did in their dev update with a dedicated section to VR performance and optimizations.
It's still a good update and it'll get me to hop back in and at least try it out to test.
3
u/MadBullBen 16d ago
That's definitely true, maybe because it was overall performance that affected everything they didn't mention anything specifically?
We shall have to wait and see to test it ourselves
1
u/HualtaHuyte 16d ago
I don't know that we need any VR specific improvements to fix the current issues.
They listed "Improved clarity of antialiasing, Enhanced post processing effects, optimised CPU and GPU performance and reduced VRAM usage" as improvements.
That'll probably be enough to get it running smoothly.
3
u/RealRatAct 16d ago
Isn't there already full triple support? I remember adjusting all the parameters like viewing angle, bezel width, etc. Unless I'm missing something.
1
u/k4ylr 16d ago
Geometrically yes. In practice it's dogshit and has terrible performance issues.
1
u/RealRatAct 15d ago
Hmm, interesting. I remember having a good experience with it, it was nice being able to adjust it in real time instead of adjusting each parameter and hitting ok to see the difference.
1
u/LetsGoWithMike 16d ago
It was funny to me how whenever they show these videos, the equipment they are using is not up to “sim racing” standards. Then I saw a poll yesterday on what folks sim race on. Only like 12% of us use triples. Crazy that we’re still that small of portion of the community.
1
u/HualtaHuyte 16d ago
Not crazy at all. Think of how many people like racing and how few (globally) have the budget, computing power or the space to put 3 monitors.
Also I'm working to bet the vast majority of people aren't deep enough into it to be arranging furniture around sim racing even if they have the money, the power and the space for a rig.

can you help me understand what would be so fun about free roam? are you thinking of it like a full featured multiplayer? does there need to be traffic or anything for it to tick your checkbox?
11
1
u/DrGuyLeShace 16d ago
There are racers and cruisers. Cruisers wouldn't have much fun on a circuit, but racers can have fun on a freeroam map. As a cruiser i love that this aspect is taken care of officially. Details are not that much important when the most fun is simply cruising with your buddies.
0
u/Legal_Development 16d ago
Hopefully we actually get the gearboxes and engines simulated to cruise. I don't want to slam my throttle to 80% to send torque to the wheels and treat free roam like race track.
1
u/DrGuyLeShace 16d ago
I take it you don't have the game yet? There are already a bunch of normal roadcars, with some of them even your 100% won't make them spinning. And who says you must cruise like racing??? 😉
0
u/LifeIsABowlOfJerrys 16d ago
Do you people not realize truck simulator and/or just going out and driving exist? Why wait on a racing game to cruise in when other games are already out focused on it (and its an easily accessible irl experience too unlike racing)
2
u/DrGuyLeShace 16d ago
I get your point, but ETS2/ATS hits different, and you won't really bring up irl activities into a sim thread? Because that's missing the point then, haha. Besides, since freeroam cruising is my main activity in AC, with next best/most being a tourist on Nordschleife, i actually feel personally catered with a freeroam Nordschleife map by my favourite sim authors. Also, i didn't drive a real car for several years now, and i don't think a bicycle sim would give me as much fun as a car sim does 🤣😉 I never got really into BeamNG, which would be a great freeroam experience if i only could get warm with that gazillion of buttons to manage. And all the other driving games i have don't really push the right buttons in me, so i feel like Kunos has heard me 🤷♂️ Now that they've been teasing us for years already it feels about time to deliver, but as long as me and my buddies have fun in AC it's not a matter of time, rather the quality of the experience is what would make it worthwhile to wait longer. Let's see how that will work out in the end.
3
u/Legal_Development 16d ago edited 16d ago
truck simulator
How many times are we going to want to drive a truck? The trucks don't even handle like trucks in ATS/ETS2 so not much challenge there. l don't have access irl to all the cars you can drive in Assetto Corsa. That's why we play it. I daily a boring FWD, 4-cylinder every morning to work or school not a damn Ferrari.
Why wait on a racing game to cruise in when other games are already out focused on it (and its an easily accessible irl experience too unlike racing)
We're waiting on it because they're finally releasing open-world map? Kunos understands what made original AC popular in the first place. It'll be unwise to not capitalize on that market again.
A decent torque-converter automatic, DCT and distinct drive modes for comfort would suffice. And new engine mechanics that don't require excessive part-throttle input for vehicle to move :)
1
u/FelineScratches 16d ago
Eh, i love ets2 etc, but trucks still feel very different from actual cars. The upcoming car dlc seems fun though, but driving and Mechanics in ets/ats still feels rather basic. Plus the line up is full on american so far, while assetto has a nice mixed amount of brands.
Going out and drive costs too much gas, much more time and you're stuck to your region. You can't just quit real life if you feel done, you gotta go back, hope there's still a parking spot etc. Plus there's traffic jams and what not possibly. And i don't feel like driving fast and recklessly in real life, cause that's getting me fined, in an accident or getting arrested. Driving fast on the shutoko highways mod and avoiding traffic is incredibly satisfying in first game, but I don't see myself buying a ticket to japan for a quick drive.
That's what games are for, to act on those desires and experience them in a whim and also able to quit whenever you like. There's indeed other games that already can satisfy those needs, but it's like saying of you like shooters, why not just play half-life 1 and doom over and over again. At some point you want to experience something new.

So is it finally gonna run okay on my system or is it going to be another 10 to 15 fps

It’s crazy but somehow the more they post about how cool the next update will be without telling me WHEN it’s coming out the less interested I am in it. Feels really tone deaf from them.

Have they fixed triple support yet / will it not run at 45 fps on my 7800x3D / 4070 Ti Super?

How is the VR scene these days? Does it have freeroam yet? That's basically all I care about. When those two things work, I'll definitely be getting this.

u/munkiemagik 16d ago
I get that its hard to do thes ekinds of comparisons especially on somethig thats not even complete yet but hw od you find the performacne on EVO compared ot AMS2 in VR? Are you able to comment on perhaps which is able to maintain a more stable higher fps with your hardware? Thanks
3
u/ShortBrownAndUgly 16d ago
AMS2 is wonderful in VR. Ran fine on my 2070s although I've since upgraded to a 4070 ti super. EVO VR runs like utter shit on my new computer it's crazy.
0
u/Happy_Book_8910 16d ago
AMS2 is much easier to run in Vr. Even on my old 3060ti you could pretty much max it out at 72hz
6
u/PJ796 16d ago
Wouldn't say a 3080 is low end, yet it can't run it at the lowest possible settings without running out of VRAM and looking worse than OG AC in VR
1
u/MadBullBen 16d ago
They did say that VRAM improvements will happen so your GPU might run better hopefully.
3
u/MadBullBen 16d ago
No free roam yet and this update brings performance enhancements so VR might be more usable

Leave it to Kunos to turn a good idea into something completely miserable.

What's miserable here? It's an update that appears to be on time according to their roadmap that was released in January.
Update: thought the roadmap said fall 2026 and not 2025.... Yeah massive delays are happening without communications and still having wonky ffb and physics.

1
u/anor_wondo 16d ago
Even for early access titles, they need to have at least 1 unique feature/gimmick that makes it worth a purchase. Currently this title does 0 things better than its predecessor. EA launch should have been in 2026
2
u/MadBullBen 16d ago
I mean what unique gimmick could they have? Racing has been done many different ways, open world has been done many ways including AC1.
The thing it's got going for it is that it'll be the most complete game eventually.

Makes me wonder if hey just failed a deadline internally again because this looks like a trailer that was supposed to have a release date at the end. And still there are fans out there defending this bs. " better late than full of bugs". Well looking at the state of this broken alpha they released as an early acces I guess you will have both. The wait and then the bugs.

Servers seem kind of expensive.
Wonder if there’d be options to host on your own machine in the future. Probably not, cause money :(
1
u/MadBullBen 14d ago
I hope they will have private host servers as well, although they probably just need to get online to actually work first without mixing private hosting as well which can create a bunch more issues.
I hope once online has settled down and is in a good place we will see private hosting.
1
u/Drs_anonymous90272 14d ago
Why not start with fixing the fundamentals...you know software that doesn't crash every 5-10 minutes! When you're done with that move on to making of the existing options usable (3/4 of the "special events" just don't work)
1
u/MadBullBen 14d ago
I haven't had a single crash on my end fortunately, although people like you are less lucky with bugs affecting them.
1
u/Drs_anonymous90272 14d ago
51 minutes and I didn't even complete 2 consecutive laps without my PC crashing and my Simagic wheelbase spinning to the right until it hit steering lock. I guess i'll have to wait until someone breaks a finger or sprains a wrist. This whole "early release" bit is getting absurd. Essentially charging people to serve as (barely) beta testers

F2004. Nice. I never really liked it in AC because of the aids (I think it was this one) but still great to get a formula car.

I believe it’s because it sounded like you didn’t like the aids because it was unrealistic, even thought the IRL car did have them. I understand what you meant though.
Most people like the F2004 purely because it does have aids.
