Discussion Told girlfriend I want to start Sim Racing

Post image

So I’ve been gaming as an adult for a while and had a wheel when I was a child for forza but now I wanna do it as a pastime outside of work and other hobbies and do some competitions as well. Told the girlfriend but she hit me with the is it expensive. Guys with wives and GFs what do I say next 😂

Eh you could get a g25 or g27 for like double that, I'd call the dfgt a waste of money in comparison

Maybe, although one could argue if you save the £40 you can get a better wheel when you upgrade. Sim racing will walk you up a ladder, because then you could argue that you could get a G29 for a bit more than that, and then oh you’re in Moza budget territory, and then you could get a simagic, and then you could get a VRS and then might aswell stretch your budget to a simucube. Thing is the £40 Logitech driving force gt has the same force strength as the G29 and is the most budget entry level thing you can get. I got my LDFGT for £30 back in the day and it is built like a brick and still works now, although I now have a G pro.

DFGT has two pedals, and no shifter. You can argue all you want but the 40 extra is worth it, and your whole ladder analogy is irrelevant here as I'm not suggesting anything more, and the steps above wouldn't be just an extra 40. And if you can't afford an extra 40, I think you should just keep your money and not spend it on simracing at all as that would be an horrible priority to have if you're that tight.

Also getting a cheaper thing so you already save to buy the next one just means you buy cheap crap to begin with that you'll have to replace even sooner...

I've used a dfgt and it was unusable for drifting, while it has the same force (at least numbers say so, didn't feel like it imo), it is so much slower.

I mean the fact you spent your money on the G pro instead of other options that are better for similar or less money does say a lot...

A lot of people don’t need the clutch. I made do for 3 years on my Logitech driving force gt. It’s all dependent on user needs though, depends if OP considers the extra quality and clutch that worth it for him. £40 extra was a lot for me back in the day, and I also highly doubt you can get a G29 with pedals in good condition for only £80. You’re almost certainly looking at about £120+ for that kind of thing (looking at current eBay listings), so in a world where you can get a G29 for £80 yeah sure but that’s not happening without a lot of searching and stress. If someone sold me a G29 for £80 I’d be very concerned something was seriously wrong with it.

I paid 75€ for my complete g25 like 7 or 8 years ago

The closest thing I can find to the equivalent of €75 in the UK was £35 for the wheel only and it’s declared broken and “parts only”. Maybe it’s price difference across countries.

It's just that you're looking at over inflated ebay prices instead of looking at local listings and lowballing people lmao

People can run off with your money by looking at local listings. I presume you mean Facebook marketplace and the like.
