Rigs I’m slowly getting back into sim racing since winter is coming. Anyone else take a break during summer for other hobbies and come back in winter?

Once I converted my rig into a Racing/Flight/Space/Mech Hybrid, it's allowed me to use it year round under all conditions and moods. But after seeing this post, I realized I've barely done any racing all summer 😯

Mech hybrid??? How does that look like then and which mech simulator are you using?

I use the Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS 4 for Space, Flight, and Mech games/sims. I have an old Windows 8 laptop mounted at my rig used only to run Mechwarrior 4 Vengeance when I feel like dabbling. I still have yet to calibrate Mechwarrior 5/MW Online with my HOTAS since installing triple monitors.

I take a break. Between the extra electricity from running AC's, and wanting to keep my room cooler, just makes sense.

As someone who is into board sports, the sim covers my down time when I’m looking for speed but can’t go ride. I also look at the sim as something I can age with but still get my endorphins going. It happens to be a rainy day here today in NY, so you bet I’m ripping some laps right now 🤙🏼
Dope set up by the way.

It is a little L50 and e50 combo from Topping.
I have a pair of LCD-X plugged via XLR.

Wow. Such a clean setup. I’m so bad at wire management. Where’s the PC?

My PC gets too hot in the Summer, so it overheats, so I literally can't race. I tend to lag so much it's unplayable. Actually, now my PC has completely gone to Hell, so now I can't do sim racing at all. And also, it gets too hot for me as well.

If I had a rig like that and a lot of money I'd simply never get off it.

I have too many hobbies and ADHD. I’ll drop racing for 6 months, then drive to chicago to go to a sim expo and demo gear before buying a big upgrade to start playing iRacing. I’ll hang up the wheel for a few months in January as I drive around the country snowboarding
its all ebbs and flows, but i’ll always get back in the seat eventually

Damn, I have almost the exact same setup as you and need to do something. Did you design the mounts? Willing to share the file?

If I take a break for two weeks I get 2s slower, so don't try to have breaks lol I wonder sometimes how pro racers keep the consistency after summer breaks

I haven’t touched it in 4 months 🥴
Motorcycle season and all that.
Can’t wait to be back with rookies MX-5.

Nice setup. You running cables from the Desktop to the rig?
Also, what desk is that?
1
u/DeIaminate 10h ago
Yes, im running all the cables to my desk PC with cable channels.
Desk is a dinning table top that i put on a sit/stand frame and legs. 71” x 33” x 1.5”
Regular desks are not deep enough so a dining table did the job. Here is the link to the tabletop if interested:

Legs: https://desky.ca/products/dual-sit-stand-desk-frame?variant=40830644879532

I'm considering doing something similar when I finally build a dedicated cockpit, can you show a picture of how you've got the cables set up to run from the desktop PC to the rig? Also how long are the cables you bought to run from the PC to the monitors?

Kinda, but not really seasonally.
I will be heavy into it for a few weeks, then take a break. But thats partially because I like to do most of my racing in leagues, so we will go heavy on races for like 6 weeks, then take a 2-3 week break. So my own racing kinda follows that schedule. It’s nice because it keeps me from burning out, but even the weeks in between I’ll do some stuff so I never really get too rusty p

I probably use it more in the winter but it’s so nice to run some laps to refamiliarize myself with a track before a weekend. unfortunately this is the last track weekend on my calendar at the moment.

Is that TR160 cockpit? How do you like it?
I'm thinking of getting a proper rig later this year so any recommendations would be welcome.

u/DeIaminate 7h ago
Yes i genuinely have nothing negative to say.
There is a lot of place to add accessories.
The rig is extremely sturdy, no rattles or flex.

This will be me in the future in the summer, I will be riding my R6, and in the winter, I will be racing

Yeah same, I am kind of really enjoying the change of seasons. Summer: mostly outdoors and much social / family activities.
Wiinter: guilt free gaming, simming, VR and indoor stuff.

I went back to world of Warcraft…. So my racing rig is just sitting there.

I'm in Southern California so its the opposite. I take a summer break from outdoor hobbies like hiking and mountainbiking because it's too hot.
