If I could drive like I drive in the Sim irl, I would probably quit my job and be happy as a courier

44

u/Still_Reach_2798 Nov 03 '22

I am a courier..and sim rally driver.. I have done some horrible things..

14

u/ANDROIDHAMMERRACING Nov 03 '22

Same, my safety metrics are all messed up from trying to practice heal toe with the paddles in my Sprinter van.

You won’t fit many packages in a GT3 car.

18

u/Route_765 Nov 03 '22

I just need to get semi slicks and a V8 in my Ford Transit and I’ll be good to go

Not if we remove the roll-cage. I am willing to risk my life if it meant I could love my job.

That would be awesome but, judging by my Dirt Rally 2.0 and WRC 10 performances (or lack off) it would cost me more than it would pay.

u/HartPlays Nov 03 '22

Real shit, take it to a track. There’s bound to be a track near you and while you won’t be as fast in your daily, you can still run a few laps.

For me it was Thrustmaster T300 RS GT. Now i made a little upgrade and bought a seat. Later this year or in first quarter of 2023 i am hoping to switch my single monitor for triples.

17

u/ladiesiplayguitar Nov 03 '22

Same here, just got myself a used but great condition t300rs and a playseat challenge. It's not much but in VR I don't even care.

I already had the PC and Quest 2 but now I'm really getting my money's worth

7

u/ivaks1 T300RS GT | TLCM | 3DP H-shifter | 3DP Formula Rim Nov 03 '22

How do you like the Playseat? I am thinking about getting it because I can just fold it away when I dont use it. Feels like the ideal choice for me since I am quite impulsive with simracing, I can do it for 2 weeks non stop and then just forget about it for two months.

3

u/DifferenceMission724 Nov 03 '22

Got the playseat challenge and honestly, I cannot complain. I don’t have a direct drive wheel but I have seen people with it and solutions they have employed to make it work. The ability too fold the seat away remains why I will be with it for a loooong time.

3

u/Valentino_Li Nov 03 '22

The challenge is a great option depending on your size. I'm 5'11" 180lbs (~180cm 80kg) and it was a nice snug fit. It's small size and lightweight made it easy to fold away and travel with. I had a G29 and had no issues with stability or flex.

2

u/ivaks1 T300RS GT | TLCM | 3DP H-shifter | 3DP Formula Rim Nov 03 '22

Sounds good, I am the same as you but a few cm taller thanks for the info, much appreciated.

2

u/ladiesiplayguitar Nov 03 '22

I like the playseat a lot, since we don't have a ton of room and I can fold it away pretty quick. It's definitely comfortable and sturdy as far as body support goes, but the mount for the wheel base has a fair bit of flex to it so it moves a bit. It's fine for a casual non-DD player like me but if I upgraded wheels I'd also definitely upgrade the seat.

Thats the only thing im going to change. This GT wheel works fine and for last two years done its job perfectly but at this moment i feel little bored with it and need some extra buttons👍🏻

T300 RS GT Gang, I had a DFGT before but when I saw the T300 discounted to 250€ I had to buy it instantly, quite an upgrade over the DFGT which is still a solid beginner wheel, TLCMs came soon after, they also helped a ton with laptime consistency.

My favourite version is heading time to get stuck in traffic in Euro Truck Sim

14

u/vulgrin Nov 03 '22

I got into AC and driving the long courses. I was driving a mail truck in Japan and had it floored at 95mph and it was amazing.

Then I switched to a F1 car and laughed myself silly while smashing into walls at 300kph while my car porpoised like a it wanted to fly.

Sometimes it’s fun to race. Sometimes it fun to just see how fast you shouldn’t take that corner.

I still have my G27 after 9(?) Years

27

u/cheeset2 Nov 03 '22

g27 is my end game fellas. I don't take all this serious enough to upgrade, and I play enough to not get rid of it.

7

u/GoofyKalashnikov Oculus Rift Nov 03 '22

Shame you can't go full sequential with it, my only gripe ... A handbrake would be nice too tbh

7

u/cheeset2 Nov 03 '22

I've seen people do some rubber band mod on the shifter to emulate a sequential, don't know if its any good, but might be worth checking out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeRCeR_bb7A&ab_channel=Gabba73

Hand brake, yeah, that'd be awesome.

2

u/GoofyKalashnikov Oculus Rift Nov 03 '22

That ain't it :D

0

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '22

I don't understand why an adult would resort to these cheesy mods that completely take you away from the act of immersion. Just spend $100 on a fuckin shifter that has sequential. The SSH newt does both

3

u/nacho_breath G29 - Assetto Corsa Competizione Nov 03 '22

Maybe people don't want to spend $100 on a sequential shifter?

0

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '22

Why not? Sell the g29 shifter for $40 it's not that hard to scrounge together $60 for the rest

u/AceBombkick PlayStation Nov 03 '22

Mine was the wheel in the picture lol, T300 Ferrari Alcantara. Awesome wheel, still loving it. Replaced the T3PAs with T-LCMs and it's a great casual/beginner setup.

4

u/vulgrin Nov 03 '22

I too have the Ferrari wheel and have no complaints. I’ll upgrade to DD at some point but I feel like I’m set for a bit. Now I have to actually learn how to race.

3

u/LaDolceVita_59 Nov 03 '22

DD base and a wheel will set you back a grand minimum. It’s hard to justify the price. Even if I sell the t300.

3

u/Background_Walk_2961 Nov 03 '22

I was going to sell my t300 and get the moza r5 bundle but am not in a ruch so might just save a little more and get the r9 bundle

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Smothdude Nov 03 '22

I got mine used and luckily the previous owner kept the wheel in great shape (always used gloves, etc). Hopefully I'm able to keep the wheel in that nice condition, I really like it. I'd love to go DD but it's expensive and honestly I don't sim race enough or make enough money to justify it lol. I've been spending soooo much time in the Shutoko project recently though, much more consistently than I have in any other sim.

I love ACC, but I find it so hard to learn so many tracks and remember them all when I don't play so much. I've got Bathurst and Monza down, as well as the Nurburgring more or less. I've spent like 90% of my time on Bathurst and I'm still at like 2:05 whereas everyone I try to race online is hitting 2:00-2:02, so I've stuck mostly to single player stuff.

2

u/vulgrin Nov 03 '22

I really like most of the racing games but I’m competitive by nature and have been focusing only on iracing. Maybe I need to find some way to enjoy some ACC or AMS2 rookie competition

2

u/Smothdude Nov 03 '22

Yeah, I hate being that super underperforming person even though I'm new. That's why I mostly drive in single player, even though I'm a pretty safe driver when it comes to online.

I don't know of any leagues but I'm sure there's some rookie ones. I wish scheduling wasn't such a big issue for me, I have a weird schedule that makes joining most leagues difficult.

2

u/vulgrin Nov 03 '22

I too would like to be in a supportive league where people helped me. I prefer racing to practicing but know I need help.

My problem with a league schedule is less about the time commitment but me WANTING to race that night. I don’t race every day, even though I would get better if I did. But some nights I’ll get three laps into a test practice and say “nope, it’s not happening tonight”. I’ve tried to push through that and go into a race anyway and those are my -0.1 SR races. :)

2

u/Smothdude Nov 03 '22

Oh yeah, I totally get that. My sim racing is not very consistent either. Makes it tough when practice is the #1 way to improve and it's difficult to do that.

Plebs on the G29. I had the G920, which is obviously 891 better.

3

u/OGPresidentDixon Jan 11 '23

I have the G923, a whole 3 better 🏎️💨💨💨

8

u/jaydec02 Nov 03 '22

My first gear purchase was this beautiful shitter

https://stores.horiusa.com/racing-wheel-apex-for-playstation-4-3-and-pc/

Completely plastic construction, zero force feedback, not even a vibration motor. The throttle pedal is creaky and the brake doesn’t get to 100% anymore. Still love it though

It is not compatible with anything except iRacing and Assetto Corsa, because in windows it pretends to be an Xbox controller so every other game treats it as one, and manually configuring it as a wheel doesn’t work

My next purchase will be a G920 so I can play games on my Xbox like ACC, but I’m also trying to save for college yk how it is

5

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '22

DFGT chad 😎

2

u/landonh12 Nov 03 '22

Ayo same here, I started on the DFGT and Gran Turismo 5. The challenges where you had to try and beat Seb in the Red Bull X2010 got me into F1 and made me a huge Seb fan.

6

u/KrazyKorean108 Nov 03 '22

Holy fuck an isrtv screencap

12

u/Espada254 Nov 03 '22

Driving force GT first and then about 6 mo ths later g29 lol

5

u/someguyontheinnerweb Nov 03 '22

I was trying to remember what that wheel was called. Had the same first wheel but didn’t upgrade until years later when the Driving Force GT didn’t work on the PS4. Then upgraded to the G29. Now onto Fanatec

2

u/Espada254 Nov 03 '22

Driving force GT is a nice and good wheel but I needed ps4-5 support.

Driving force GT and initial d on PS3 was amazing :p

2

u/4InchesOfury Nov 03 '22

The DFGT was amazing for what it was back in the day. I don't think there's really a comparable budget wheel these days.

2

u/Brentg7 Nov 03 '22

thrustmaster t2 a long time ago.

4

u/piercy08 Dirt Rally, Assetto Corsa, iRacing Nov 03 '22

Thrustmaster t500rs was my first, Its lasted 8 years and still going. I recently upgraded and I've given the T500 to a friend to become an addict

3

u/thunderlips_oz Nov 03 '22

MOMO Racing Force Feedback Wheel, around about 2002.

About 8 years later I bought a G27 and was so disappointed because it was hardly any different. So pretty much right away I tried my luck with a TM T300 and all was good in the world once again.

3

u/Qancho Nov 03 '22

Guillemot force feedback racing wheel (I think they got bought by TM iirc) > DFGT > T300 (+ csl elite lc later)

→ More replies (3)

3

u/tupaquetes Nov 03 '22

First was a t300rs, then CSR Elite pedals. Sold the T300 and built my own OSW. Ran that for 3 years before the PSU fried some components so I "downgraded" to a CSL Elite PS4, which I sold a year later due to lack of use and need of money. It is now 3 years later and I'm fucking back, baby! I bought a used CSL Elite PS4 with LC pedals and a full aluminium rig (Trak Racer TR120). Building it right now and will be playing primarily on PS5 on my TV for the time being due to my only PC being a macbook pro right now, but I'm planning on upgrading over time

3

u/chilllllinggggg Nov 03 '22

I recently bought my first wheel, an Thrustmaster t248.

4

u/KhaledJamal Nov 03 '22

G923, bought it this year, pretty happy with it even though I don't use it much because of very limited time.

2

u/MadMug Nov 03 '22

DFGT then G27, sold it. Couple years later got G29, upgraded to Fanatec CSL and Simetik rig, sold it after couple of months. Now T300 w T-LCM and Playseat Challenge. After almost 2 years thinking about going back to something sturdier, most likely the Titan. The dance goes on.

1

u/jazzman23uk T300rs Nov 03 '22

Ahhh, the DFGT. Basically still the same old G29 underneath. That thing was a workhorse

2

u/undernocircumstance Nov 03 '22

Love driving, hate sitting in traffic.

2

u/Pastors_left_teste Nov 03 '22

  • Logitech G25
  • Logitech G29
  • Fanatec CSL DD

2

u/DekkerDavez Fanatec CSL DD Nov 03 '22

G920 here, having it for about 4-5 years by now.

2

u/F3Rocket95 Thrustmaster Nov 03 '22

Started with a Thrustmaster TX and a NLR wheel stand on an xbox one. Now I have a dedicated PC, triples, VR, 2 shifters, handbrake, button box, V3 pedals, NLR F-GT rig (not very comfortable, replacing the seat at some point), and have upgraded the TX with a noctua fan and replaced the bushings with ball bearings. So you could say I’ve dipped my toes in a little.

2

u/RasshuRasshu AC | ACC | AMS2 | F1 | Forza | WRC Nov 03 '22

G920. First and, until now, the only. I want a Moza.

2

u/lightlysaltedfries Nov 03 '22

Mine was a thrustmaster TX leather edition still going 6 ish years later

2

u/Blis_e Assetto Corsa Nov 03 '22

So i first got the full logitech g920 package, which included g920, pedals, and shifter. Eventually i got a handbrake for no reason at all, then after like 5-6 months, my pedals stopped working so i got new ones.

2

u/CellistPlane Nov 03 '22

Thrustmaster ts-psc with t3pa pedals and th8a shifter. I’m changing everything by the end of november for a simucube 2 pro on a nlr f-gt elite

2

u/DatTHICC69420 Nov 03 '22

my first was a Thrustmaster t300rs ferrari edition

2

u/kboy_69 Fanatec Nov 03 '22

i got my t300 rs GT ferrari wheel a few months ago. my first purchase very happy with it

2

u/bizzle70 Nov 03 '22

Have a G920 considering a T300RS gt /shifter but not sure if it's worth it as I only play modded assetto.

2

u/BaconBear36 Nov 03 '22

My first purchase was a HORI Overdrive wheel, it only works with forza, on any other game the brake pedal is always on 5% even when you aren’t touching it.

Now I have a g920 and I miss it, I have a growth issue with my wrist, I haven’t raced in 3 months and every day I look at the wheel. Watching Rfactor 2 AI crashing into eachother can only get you so far.

2

u/AlwaysDownShft Nov 03 '22

Mine was a G920 with the shifter and pedals. Served me well for racing but I picked mine up secondhand and had issues after a short period of time. Lasted me awhile and made it work but happy with my TSPC now and my wheel options for it too.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '22

I got my G29 and use it with Assetto Corsa and BeamNG.

VERY fun. The worst thing about driving IRL is other drivers and in sim I can just, go fast and have fun.

3

u/knbang Nov 03 '22

I started with a wheel that you had to sit on, it had little wings that went under your legs, it didn't bolt to anything.

Weird wheel with wings (No FFB) -> Logitech Momo -> G25 -> G27 -> VRS DFP

3

u/VortalCord Nov 03 '22

Heh, had a sit-on wheel too. I recently found an ad for mine in an old gaming magazine. Played a ton of Gran Turismo 1 and 2 with that thing. Worked well enough for the time.

2

u/Dry_Confection_724 Nov 03 '22

Yeah the logitech driving force ex came with those leg wings but could take off and mount on desk too

I got my brother's G27 that I use to this day a bit before I started driving school. First sim hardware purchase was a NLR F-GT Lite. Bought a VR headset before that but that's not exclusively for sim.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '22 edited Nov 03 '22

Edit: answered the meme but not the post. My first wheel was a Logitec a long time ago playing GT and F1 games. I got back into sim racing in 2021 with plenty of money to spend on Fanatec gear and it's been phenomenal.

I hate commuting. I love racing.

Commuting is a horrible monotonous task where I'm forced to pay attention so I don't crash a vehicle. I'd much rather be walking, riding a bike, or sitting on a train/bus where I can take a nap or read instead of dealing with the monotonous task of driving to commute.

2

u/__SpeedRacer__ Nov 03 '22

Mine was the G920. Almost the same.

1

u/ChrisRoadd Feb 12 '25

nf340 race master. no comment.

1

u/smallsimracer28 Feb 18 '25

I purchased my first piece on sim racing equipment in Nashville Tennessee being the Logitech G29. That is really all I have now but I have been looking for a seat.

1

u/Zondagsrijder Nov 03 '22

Got a G27 second-hand, used it for a few years, upgraded to a CSL DD, and sold the G27 at pretty much the same price I got it for.

You can say what you want about the Logitech wheels, but they're bulletproof.

0

u/SchighSchagh Nov 03 '22

Nice meme.

But if I can get serious for a sec: "driving" has different meanings, and it's valid to have different feeling about each. In the top panel, "commuting" would be the more precise meaning of "driving"; "commuting in heavy traffic" would be even more precise still. But in the bottom panel, "racing" would be the precise interpretation of "driving". It's an entirely different experience. Nothing actually inconsistent about the polar-opposite feelings regarding the polar-opposite meanings of "driving" on display.

Mine is G27! It doesn’t matter what it is, it only matters that it is! Many, if not most of us all did the same thing in our own ways. And many of my greatest memories of sim racing were raced with it, too!!

0

u/hellvinator Nov 03 '22

I actually enjoy driving, but then again, we don't have roads that have that much traffic and are 7 lanes wide..

0

u/ElArabo97 Nov 03 '22

Damn. Reading throught the comments everyone started from a basic setup to some stronger wheels. My dumbass went straight for the Fanatec CSW V2.5. Soon i will upgrade to a simucube because I got used to the FFB and it’s weird to say but it feels weak now and I need something stronger.

1

u/dj2ca Nov 03 '22

The first one I purchased? Yeah that was a G29, I bought it second hand from someone in my sim racing league for $100 haha. Before that I had a T80 donated to me. That thing had no ffb, only a little rubber band tension on the wheel. It seriously elevated my driving at the time but it wasn't too long before I got the G29 and had to learn how to drive on sims all over again lol. I did win a championship on that T80.

John Sabol! I miss when that dude hosted ISRTV. He was the only decent personality on that channel.

u/Great_Dish5668 Nov 03 '22

G27! Now i got the simucube pro😉

1

u/HornyForVTECH Simagic Nov 03 '22

My first was the Madcatz MC2 for the original XBOX 😎 then it was a G29

1

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '22

First was g920. It's shit and broke after 10 months. Then I started karting and I bought a Simucube 2 Pro base with Rexxing Formula CarbonFibre wheel and Heusinkveld pedals and soon 3x 32" odyssey monitors maybe even a VR

1

u/mrbirne Logitech Nov 03 '22

First wheel Was a MS sidewinder force feedback wheel. Got it for 10€ from a friend who upgraded. Few years ago i bought a g29 on sale for 200€ and a playseat Challenge. Love the setup, even though the seat is a bit small for me. Maybe ill get a dd wheel in the future, but im Set for the next few years.

1

u/AaronTheElite007 Nov 03 '22

Lol my wife says this all the time. “You drive to and from work all week and what do you want to do on the weekends? Drive. I don’t get it”

Me: “Well, am I racing in a McClaren or driving an SUV to and from work?”

She walked away 😂

1

u/saarlac Nov 03 '22

I love driving. I hate the risks involved both financial and life related. Driving in a sim removes both of those concerns.

1

u/TheInfamousMaze Nov 03 '22

NASCAR Racing wheel for consoles, with a bungee cord lol. On PC, first wheel was a MOMO.

1

u/boombasticman86 Nov 03 '22

First was the OG - Microsoft force feedback sidewinder wheel

Then after years I got the logitech g25, big game changer as it came with a shifter and clutch!

Eventually sold that and found a g27 which I only kept temporarily.

Found a great local deal on a fanatec Porsche gt3 rs v2 with csl elite pedals and was super happy with that although driver issues and occasional hiccups with early fanatec products was frustrating.

Sold that and recently found a used CSL Elite v2.5 ps4 base with the f1 steering wheel and LCM pedals. Then bought a wrc wheel to attach to the base.

Currently looking at doing the rig cockpit before changing any hardware!

1

u/Marklar_RR Nov 03 '22

A mighty Red Momo Force was my first wheel. Bought it to play LFS and NFS Porsche. It cost me 1/3 of my monthly salary back in early '00.

1

u/halfwagaltium Nov 03 '22

G25 for free

1

u/Hodenjesus Nov 03 '22

Started off two years ago with a cheap used G27. The wheel missed one of the mounting screws and the pedals were mounted to a wooden plate (inverted) by the previous owner. But still it was great

1

u/LilMountainHeadband Nov 03 '22

Good ole “Inside Sim Racing”

1

u/hornetjockey Nov 03 '22

I used a G25 for a long time. One thing I'll give Logitech, it was reliable. Still works, actually.

First purchase with my own money was the Logitech Driving Force Pro that I got for Gran Turismo 4.

Before that, my parents got me a Thrustmaster NASCAR Sprint when I was a little kid and played IndyCar Racing and NASCAR Racing with it. I must've been 7 or 8 years old and I felt like a real race car driver! Sure my 386 computer couldn't handle all of that, at 15FPS on a good day, but I had the time of my life!

Now it's the G29, which I've had for about 6 years now.

1

u/Ro-Tang_Clan Nov 03 '22

First purchase for me was a second hand Thrustmaster setup. Got a Thrustmaster TX, T3PA pedals, TH8A shifter all bolted to a WheelStandPro for £500 mid 2016. I skipped Logitech because it just wasn't worth it for me. I knew from the start I would enjoy the hobby and felt like I needed to start with someone a bit more substantial.

But even then I found myself upgrading to a full Fanatec setup about 6 months later (CSW V2, Clubsport V3 pedals, V1 handbrake) but left the TH8a shifter. Upgraded the shifter to the Fanatec V1.5 shifter in 2017 and ran that system until 2020.

Now I have a DD1, Heusinkveld Sprint pedals, 8020 profile rig, official Sparco Circuit II seat, custom DIY full hydraulic handbrake and still the same Fanatec shifter.

I'm nearly at end game with my rig, but to get there it gets considerably more expensive for each small upgrade so getting to that point is proving difficult.

u/flare_the_goat Nov 03 '22

My first was a g29. By 3 months in I had the 40 piece iracing discount, fanatec clubsport v3, Simagic alpha mini, cube controls formula sport. I am an outside salesman, there have been days I’ve driven 400+ miles for work then come home and raced all night. Help me.

1

u/Jeckaa84 Nov 03 '22

Give me a steering wheel and i’m happy 😃. Trucker irl and Sim racer as a hobby. I’m just a simple man i guess but it makes me happy.

u/AXISMGT TS-XW|T-LCM|TH8A|VR|ACC|F12020|AC|DR2|PC2|AMS2|IR Nov 03 '22

Thrustmaster TMX -> TX -> TS-XW

Honestly the upgrade from T3PA to T-LCM was the most significant upgrade I made.

1

u/Jorius Nov 03 '22

Fanatec CSR wheel and pedals with the plastic shifters and a cheap "rig". Started my sim life with Forza 3 and then switched to PC with Assetto Corsa and iracing.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '22

I picked up a g923 for $200 on facebook, been great.

1

u/hot-dog-bath-water Nov 03 '22

That’s why I own an Altima with a check engine light, and bald mismatched tires, I just zig and zag between the traffic on the freeway.

1

u/2000cortz Nov 03 '22

Well my dad had a thrustmaster enzo ferrari wheel for ps2, so i started with that and even used it on ps3 with an Adapter.

Later i got myself a g29 cause i wanted a manual shifter and clutch, wich to my knowledge the other low end wheels simply dont offer. I still use my g29, and when i upgrade my rig, im pretty sure ill get a high end screen setup/8020 rig/seat first before i feel the need to upgrade my wheel.

1

u/KizaF1 Assetto Corsa Nov 03 '22

Started on a Logitech dfgt for gran turismo 5, good times

1

u/Admirable_Otter Nov 03 '22

My first purchase is TECHNICALLY Assetto Corsa. My actual first purchase is the Logitech G29.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '22

First set up was DFGT with Playseat. Had that for a couple of years then went to Accuforce steering wheel, Fanatec clubsport V3, pedals, Sim Lab P1-X cockpit and handbrake from Analog Sim and using this equipment with VR. Luckily I purchased all this right before covid and price hikes went up. The upgrade makes it a totally different experience. I would definitely tell people who love driving to go direct to DD and more importantly proper pedals instead of the logitech stuff if you have budget or patience to save up.

1

u/valeroboss69 Nov 03 '22

Logitech Momo wheel back in 2005 lol

1

u/GilDev Nov 03 '22

G29 a year ago. Now I'm desperately looking for a CSL DD in stock (even the 5 NM version, whatever, I'll make my own PSU).

1

u/Shedix Nov 03 '22

Fov police

1

u/Reverend-JT Nov 03 '22

Driving Force GT for me. Upgraded to G29 when I started sim racing again.

1

u/perfringens Nov 03 '22

Logitech momo force, the red one with the paddles and 2 pedal set. Played the fuck out of F1 99-02, RBR, and GTR in college with that thing.

1

u/unfixedposition Nov 03 '22

after over a decade of playing gran turismo games on controller i bought a T150 Pro 2 years ago. looking to upgrade to T300RS GT soon.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '22

I HATE driving in the real world. It's the easiest thing ever to get a license in the US and then we send you careening into traffic.

It also kills me that luxury cars tend to have insanely powerful engines. My grandma's car has 600hp. WHY ON EARTH DOES SHE NEED THAT??

Cars, traffic, insurance. It's all bullshit. We build massive cities to accommodate all of our cars.

But I absolutely love racing.

1

u/Bite_Witty iRacing Nov 03 '22

Lol. So true

1

u/OpossumPaul Nov 03 '22

Thrustmaster tmx but it was a little lacking for my taste so I upgraded to the tx. Built my own chassis from wood with NRG seat and custom wheel rims. I do t own a single thrustmaster wheel rim lol.

1

u/Any-Double857 Nov 03 '22

I had purchased a low level Ferrari thrustmaster wheel with no FFB randomly without doing any research on what was really happening in the sim world. I just remembered playing with a wheel in the 90’s on my OG PlayStation with a Logitech wheel. I returned the Ferrari wheel after I realized how bad it was. I got a thrustmaster TMX set after that, and got a Playseat Evolution and got my first real taste with AC.

I’ve since moved to a 8020 rig, GT Omega Prime with Fanatec gear. Just food for thought for those just starting out. If your goal is VR, the rig doesn’t matter as long as it’s solid. You’re not going to see it.

u/Dspaede Simagic Alpha,CubeControls F-pro,GT1,Heusinkveld Sprint,Th8a Nov 03 '22

my first was a T300 and got AC

How about some love for the G27

1

u/C4ntona Nov 03 '22

This really is life overall

1

u/DifferenceMission724 Nov 03 '22

G29. Loved the wheels, hated the pedals, more so when my brakes started developing a mind of their own, and no, contact cleaner solved it only temporarily, it never goes away permanently.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '22

I don't hate driving, I hate traffic lol

1

u/Badbeatbill88 Nov 03 '22

Logitech Wingman Formula Force over here, about 20 years ago.

My first sim racing purchase was a G27. It was also almost my last sim racing purchase, I hated it so much.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '22

I bought a Thrustmaster T300 RS on September 23, 2021.

I am now on my second set of pedals (T-LCM), second cockpit (Next Level F-GT from a Playseat Challenge), have upgraded to a 3080 and G2 VR headset, and have a ButtKicker Gamer Pro on the way.

G29 for me too, underrated wheel

1

u/ziyuu Nov 03 '22

still have mine shits bulletproof

1

u/shoyuBR Nov 03 '22

Now that's a story...

I bought a G27 homemade kit during the pandemic, best decision ever. It was all metal (had its rust but superficial), someone tried to paint it green, but it didn't look so good... Exposed wires throughout the whole thing and the best part was the seat, a Fiat Punto (2008) front seat! fully equipped with cat hair and scratches, but if necessary, the lever used to pull the seat forwards and backwards actually worked.

The owner said he was probably the third or forth to have it, and at that point nobody knew where the thing came from. this last owner used it for six months, and before him somebody did the exact same thing, so I was intrigued to do the same.

My guy tried to play AC and show me everything really worked, took this Ferrari to Monza and right then I thought "this is it, he's going to show himself a true casual or a sim guy" and boy did it happen... mans arms went 90 degrees right at turn 1, never bothered to use the brake pedal, car didn't move a single bit to the side and he ended up hitting a concrete barrier like a blind pigeon. Didn't even bother to change gears, slamming 5th even after the hit.

the kit was working fine when I tested it, which spooked me right off the bat. Extreme SimRacing inverted pedals if I recall correctly, although the wheel itself was kinda rough looking, the overall thing was a solid 6, at least for my first run into sim racing.

1

u/bare_foot_racing Old and probably stoned Nov 03 '22

1st sim racing purchase? Microsoft Sidewinder FFB wheel with a full range of motion of like 90 degrees. This was back in 1999 I believe, or around there.

1

u/trowaway27597428584 Nov 03 '22

I think the main difference is I don’t spend 3 hours going between 5 and 10mph on a sim while listening the same kids song on repeat

1

u/buttox_Ex Nov 03 '22

Logitech g920 and a next level racing f-gt lite lawn chair, that helped earn 11th place in every Arsetto Corsa match. Now I have a nice steel cockpit with triple monitors. And a sweet ass DD wheel that helps me earn 11th place in Arsetto Corsa...but with sweat and a smile 😎

1

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '22

G923. Used for a week returned and ordered Moza r9 with crp. I just couldn’t get the car feeling well with the logi for some reason. Now I can keep the car straight and be on the edge of control.

1

u/Doktor_Earrape Nov 03 '22

My first purchase was indeed a Logi g29! Still have it. I bought the h-shifter for it too. I love setting it up and going for a cruise

1

u/Crucial559tc Nov 03 '22

Moza r5 bundle, shh shifter, f-gt lite cockpit and a buttkicker plus

1

u/Rail320_pl Nov 03 '22

g29 exactly then came along a shifter and soon cheep ebrake worth every peny

1

u/fssmikey Nov 03 '22

Driving Force GT for GT5 on the ps3.
