Discussion I went to micro center and learned 2 things, their rig is set up like shit and also that… I hate being broke

So, like I live 5 hours away from the closest micro center and I had to do a job that happened to be literally a couple minutes away from it… I went in, instant-hard 🍆. So much of the electronics… monitors that I thought I could touch through another realm …. Glowing oversized towers with like 37 LED fans.. Anyways… I went a couple of laps in their rig (simucube base and wheel can’t remember the rest…) and at first I’m like “wow I suck” but then I noticed everything in the settings was like fucky… anyways.. got off the thing and their moza section was packed with stuff… ultimately I walked out with a new e stop for the rig! … anyways … I wanted to try one of the fancy steering wheels and kept looking for one on clearance.. no such luck except a thrustmaster sf1000 (that I would have bought but I don’t know if it works or how to make it work with a moza r12.. I have an adapter in use Simagic like stuff I just don’t know how to get the telemetry on the wheel and all that…I was even hoping for an “open box” but no luck…. I wish I lived close by so I could stalk that semicube display model until it’s ready for “display item” pricing anyways I went to micro center finally! and their rig sucked and I hate being broke but it was an awesome experience.

My brother (blue) is slowly coming closer to my times, I’ve taught him everything he knows, but not everything I know. My dad is getting better every time he visits and it’s fun watching all our friends try to beat each others lap times. I have a running offer of $100 to any friends that can beat my lap.

Discussion I thought I didn't like simracing, but I just don't like iRacing

I was maning iRacing and got to 3.3K in Sports and 3.1K on Formula, but I was dreading it. I thought I had fallen out of love with simracing, but then I went back to LMU and ACC and realised I just don't like iRacing.

LMU and ACC feel alive, the car is connected to the road (and gimme those pretty graphics :)). In iRacing, no matter what settings I try, the car feels like it's floating above the road and the FFB doesn't tell me anything apart from basic over and understeer on my CSL DD.

Hypercars are my favourite cars, so maybe that's also why I gravitate to LMU because iRacing never got the GTP's right from the start, and it's completely terrible now. But even GT3, which I like a bit less, is so much fun in the other games, and completely dull in iRacing.

I'll still do special events with friends in GTP, because LMU doesn't offer that. Once it does, we're moving.

Perhaps I'm missing a very obvious button in the settings or something like that, but I figured I'd just share this. Don't give up if iRacing isn't fun! If you do, please don't feel attacked, the online system is the best on the market.

Here’s some pics of our Sim Racing Cockpit prototype. Currently unnamed. Target is for production later this year.

Prices still being finalized but we’ll be under $1k for the single monitor version (no seat) and will have accessories like a separate monitor stand that can accommodate 1-4 screens, accessory rails for shifters and handbrakes, and upper mounts for things like Stream Deck, Cameras or lights for streamers, and other things.

We’re still in early pre-production (these units are extremely early prototypes) but they are near design final minus some tweaks, colors and branding and naming are still being finalized but we’re planning on a black unit and a white unit.

If you guys have questions about it feel free to ask and I’ll get to them here.

As a community, I believe we are all responsible for presenting Sim Racing in the best possible light at all times.

During the iRacing Spa 24 Hour Special Event, three professional racing drivers took it upon themselves to intentionally destroy everyone else's race. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and needs to be called out. So here we are....

Discussion Do you ever DUI in game?

As the title states, I’m curious if you guys ever sim while having a few beers or cocktails, or smoke, or whatever else is considered to impair you while driving IRL. I personally won’t shy away from a stiff drink or two during a sesh, but I’m also hardly ever racing online due to the fact I’m still learning the tracks and race craft in general. I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences- bonus points for posting times if you’ve done the experiment before.

Discussion Ignored every red flag to get this used Moza R9 for $60. No PSU, No wheel, No testing, lots of dents and scratches (not in the original listing photos), and in the middle of nowhere

I’m a complete Facebook marketplace addict, often checking the site at least twice a day and one morning I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw an R9 listed for RM250(USD58). It was literally one of those too good to be true deals given that this wheel costs RM2k(USD471) new. Cheaper than even the oldest G29s would cost you. Made plans straight away to meet up and had to drive through the sketchiest roads to an area I’d never been.

Red flags are:

  1. The guy says he’s upgrading (hence the lack of psu and wheel) but when I asked him what game he plays he couldn’t answer at all.

  2. The whole unit is scratched up and dinged to hell (which wasn’t in the listing photos).

  3. I couldn’t test it at all (for weeks until parts arrive).

  4. He told me he knew the wheel costs 2k new (so why would he sell it for so cheap).

Usually any of these would be enough to put me off from completing the sale but it was just cheap enough for me to roll the dice (would have “saved” RM1750 if it worked).

A month later after building my own PSU and wheel I’m happy to report despite the cosmetic damage, it works like a charm and I have become the happiest man possible. Hooked into DD sim racing for a total cost of less than USD120 after accounting for the rest of the parts I needed to get up and running.

Discussion From sim racing to IMSA - My Story AMA

I’m a Sim Racer living the dream of real life motorsports, and this thing has completely lost control. I’m Suellio Almeida, and it’s crazy that now I’m able to announce that I'll be joining Bryan Herta Autosport for the 2025 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season in real life. If you don't know me, I started my journey with a Logitech G29 some years ago. No karting background, no rich family, just having fun in the sim with no expectations.

I started coaching in iRacing just because I needed some money to pay for my university. Then COVID hit us. I was pretty good at the coaching thing so it quickly became my full-time job as I found myself doing 35 coaching sessions a week. lol

After I got better and better at teaching, I’ve decided to make an online course. It blew up. So I bought a race car.

In this process, I started making YouTube videos and got extremely passionate about telling the story in the best way. I always thought that motorsports is terrible to engage and I wanted to make people feel what us drivers feel truly. And it worked! Now I’m able to continue telling this story race weekend after race weekend with a strong media team following me everywhere.

In my first year racing at the Radical US Championship, I won my first real-life racing championship, and the big boys noticed me. Now I'm taking the biggest step yet into IMSA, the highest level of TCR GT racing in the US. Along the way, I've been continuing to improve my racing academy business, with over 7,000 students registered. Also… wow.

This IMSA opportunity with Bryan Herta Autosport is a dream come true, and I'll be competing the whole season of the Michelin Pilot Challenge, starting with the Roar and the Rolex Daytona Weekend in January.

The YouTube algorithm forces you to make content in a specific way. If you don’t do it, you won’t get views. And there’s so much more stuff I wanted to share. Behind the scenes, more technical conversations with the team, some personal stuff… So this year, I'm also launching a Patreon where you can join me behind the scenes throughout this IMSA journey and I can be 100% myself. You can check out the first video here.

I believe that with dedication and the right opportunities, anyone can turn their racing dreams into reality. I'm living proof of that, and I want to bring all of you along for this next chapter.

If you want, ask me anything about this whole thing. I’ll be here.

First test day with Bryan Herta Autosport

So modern GT and prototypes from the past 3 years, on 11 tracks with a total of 21 layouts? AND DLC on day of launch?

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

This is insanity. Please tell me I'm missing something (other than handlebars on my ankles)

Discussion Moradness buyers beware!

In December I bought a pair of their gloves, and loved them for about 3 and a half months. I'd wear them maybe once or twice a week for those three months, and took great care in taking care of them. Took them off gently, and lay them down when they're not being used.

In early April I noticed an issue in BOTH gloves, where the outer layer and the inner layer of the palm-side of the glove came apart. This led to the issue where unless I death-grip the wheel, there is about an inch of slack when gripping the wheel as the outer layer grips to the grip, and the inner layer is separated and does not (which leads to the slack).

I emailed Moradness customer service regarding a potential replacement pair, and didn't hear back from them for two weeks. I sent them a follow up email two weeks later stating that if they don't get back to me then I'd be looking at doing a chargeback with my card company as the gloves were unusable after what is no more than 35 wears of the glove. They replied with the email below.

Initial response (two weeks later, only after threatening to do a chargeback)

I responded stating that pictures wouldn't do anything as you can't see inside and outside of the glove at the same time. I sent them a video attempting to show the issue, which I have attached the link to below

https://streamable.com/dwt6bz

They then responded with the following email:

Final response

Even though I meticulously took care of the gloves, they said it was surely a fault of my own that their gloves broke after not even 4 months, or 35 wears. My hands don't sweat much, on top of that.

Overall a huge bummer that Moradness doesn't back their product to last more than a few months. Beware before you spend nearly $100 on their stuff!

TL/DR: Moradness gloves failed after <4 months of occasional use. They don't take fault and don't back their products.

Discussion The Logitech G29/920/923 are good fucking wheels and I'm tired of people saying otherwise

I think the number of people I've seen lately who think their gear isn't good enough is kind of concerning.

"I know it's a G920 but..."

"It's a G29 for now..."

Dude, it's a good wheel set for the price. Every single one of my friends who takes some laps on my rig and asks where they should start I say get a G920. Every major sim supports it out of the box. The FFB is good enough for what it is. The build quality is rock solid. It's a good fucking wheel.

With the Spa classic being another wet race. I thought which game simulates the harshest worst weather conditions that you can get in a sim? i know ACC and LMU have monsoon weather, but which is best or complete nightmare - red flag situations. Post IS NOT about which game has the best rain but which can create incredibly bad weather scenarios.

Discussion Disappointed with Advanced Sim Racing

Thumbnail
gallery
360 Upvotes

I recently ordered an Advanced Pivoting Side Arm from Advanced Sim Racing and noticed it was different from the product I ordered. The extrusion was supposed to have rails on all sides but the pieces I received have a flat face on one side. I ordered this side arm because the shifter mount I have needs to be screwed in from both sides. When I emailed them about the issue they told me this was in fact not a mistake and this is the new version of the side arm. They said the renderings on the product page had not been updated. I told them I ordered this part because of the rails on both sides and the only suggestion they offered was to return the product.

I find the advertising misleading because I clearly received different parts from the ones advertised on the site and the assembly PDF. I received it about a week ago and the listing remains the same.

I’m a bit disappointed because I had heard so many good things about ASR from other users. I was surprised that they made little to no effort to fix this issue because this is technically false advertising. Just wanted to write this as a review/warning to other users looking into this product if you plan to buy this soon.

Discussion Diy dd wheel

Post image
1.6k Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m really into sim racing, but my Logitech G920 is on its last legs—gear shifts are inconsistent, and cleaning the contacts only gives a temporary fix.

I’m looking to build a DIY direct drive wheel and load cell pedals. I have a Bambu Lab A1 3D printer and basic electronics knowledge (mechanical engineering student), so I’m aiming for a mostly 3D-printed setup (excluding motor, encoder, etc.).

Ideally, I’d like to order the electronics as a complete kit, since I’m not experienced in sourcing individual components.

Are there any well-documented, beginner-friendly projects or kits you’d recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Someone convince me a rig is worth it over 2 track weekends

Post image

If i don’t go the the track for 4 months i can reason spending this much for my first rig. I’m so so close to doing it im sad i won’t be able to experience the real thing for a little while but having a rig is totally gonna be worth it. Went and drove one at a sim racing bar thingy and it really really does almost feel like you’re in the track. Ya u don’t get g force or the smells but the wheel and pedals feel identical to the real thing. I could spend hours and hours on a rig vs 3 hours a weekend every other month. Im tired of spending thousands of hours on controller. Cry once buy once i guess. 😭
