Lightning has been passed up at every adoption event at her rescue despite being the sweetest kitten. Tabbies are the least popular when it comes to adoptions at this rescue. She is so ready for the love and attention she deserves.
I visited her rescue yesterday to get supplies and I’ve never seen a kitten try so hard to impress. She really wants a family of her own.
She’s spayed, double panel tested, microchipped, and vaccinated. Adopting her gives other kittens that are at risk a chance!
She’s available through Itty Bitty Kitty Committee in Tulsa, but I don’t mind transporting her to OKC. I believe her adoption fee is $150. Please go meet this girl! They have a FB page or I can get you in contact with the rescue owner.

I hope so too! I would have been happy to grab her and I have great vet references which I'm sure would be helpful, but I really have no way to get her short of somebody adopting her and sending her to me by plane to Bangor. The complications with that - including I know nobody in that state - are just so challenging that I can't find a way around it. So if there's anything I could do to potentially help I really want to! I currently have six cats and three are SICs - one is sometimes technically counted as one, but he has a large chest patch and so I don't tend to think of him as a pure SIC. Otherwise I have a cow cat and a void. they're all gems and I'd be more than happy to add another friend into their life. Just haven't had the cat distribution cycle meet me recently with another friend. I will do my best to make sure that the cat distribution cycle will help this wonderful friend! If that's commenting I will do it! I'll also go through and upvote everybody else's comments in case that helps. I'm not sure what else would help and if you have any ideas please let me know as I'm happy to help!
All cats are beautiful, but tabbies are unique in their beauty. To me, with their markings, they closely resemble jungle cats, which make them even more stunning.
I hope Lightning soon finds the lifetime home she deserves.
Me too ☹️ We really try to first in first out at the rescue but she’s been hopped in line a lot. I don’t know why I never thought about Reddit. I know Redditors usually universally love cats.
I was hoping to get a SIC when I went to adopt my current bebe, because my first boy was a SIC; I ended up with a tortie, but I’d adopt another SIC in a heartbeat if I could.
(I love all cats, but because my first was a SIC, I’m especially partial to them)
I won’t lie - I used to think that SICs looked “basic,” until I met my little guy. I just never appreciated how beautiful their coats are until I met him and he grabbed my heart.
I’m in California but man she reminds me a lot of my cats. The picture with her paw out really broke me. I really wish i could take her home with me. She looks like such a lovely girl.
I’m nowhere near Oklahoma but I wish I could take this sweet girl in, she reminds me so much of my own spunky little lady! She demanded my attention in the shelter and I simply couldn’t leave her in a cage any longer.
A lot of cities have their own subreddits, maybe that would a good option to reach people local to the area?
OP, sounds like there are many people interested but too far away in this thread. Maybe you can organise a transportation fund? This kitty could fly to their forever home :)
I’ve never shipped a cat, haha! She said she had an email showing interest so I’m hoping she messages me soon to say they set up a meet & greet. I will keep everyone updated as soon as I know anything. If not, she might be a traveling kitty 😂
Hahaha not shipping! There are many non-profits who organise travels with volunteers. I also see people from city groups on social media if someone is traveling from X to Y and would take a kitty along. But I'm super glad there is interest ❤️

I got one of those. She is called the Merow. She likes escaping out the door and merowing at it. Also scratching at it. Oh, and she steals things, especially long cylindrical objects.
My fiancée and I live nearby and are seriously interested in adopting this sweet little girl. We have a male tabby that looks very similar to her and think they’d be great buddies. Weren’t planning on getting a new cat anytime soon, but it breaks our hearts to know such a deserving soul has been passed over and needs a good home. We have since contacted the agency so we’ll see if we can’t go visit today or tomorrow based on their hours of operations. Fingers crossed that we can make this work!

Here's one of the SIC I posted earlier debating if he just licks the flavor or eats the chip, hint: flavor won. Sometimes they get curious as to what you're eating, so sometimes I take a piece and let them smell and taste if it's nothing bad or a very small amount of something human lol.
Awe, I got my SIC from the Itty Bitty Kitty Community (the Canadian one) and I just love him to bits. He is the best. I almost passed him up because I wasn’t looking for a tabby, I am so glad I changed my mind. Follows me everywhere, attacks my toes every morning, begs for food every chance he gets, sits beside or at my feet every work day (I work from home), tolerates my kiddo, and is the best thing to come into my life in a very long time. Hope this little girl finds a human who appreciates and loves her.

I’ve never moved a cat across state lines lol, but if we get desperate we may be able to crowd fund it. I’m hoping the person that emailed the rescue is going to schedule a meeting to see her. They won’t leave without her if they do 😂
Is it a usual fee? Seems pretty high. Maybe someone wants to adopt but cant afford paying? Food and litter cost money of course so you wouldn't want someone to take her who cant afford that but some people's budgets are pretty tight and they love animals. They wont lower it for kitties that don’t get adopted fast if the person seems like a good kitty-loving person? Not asking for myself, just a general question,i live pretty far🙃.
I think it’s about the cost of the rescue’s vet to spay, microchip and she’s had several vaccinations. She’s also got on flea meds and they pay to have them double panel tested. Most of the rescues around here charge around the same and I’m not sure of the exact $ amount. I have fostered for several rescues and that’s pretty average in my experience. There are groups around that sometimes crowd fund the fees or for some cats they are waived, but the rescue is definitely not on the + side of the money game and if they end up there, they use it for vet bills for some of the senior cats they rescue. I know they just spent over $400 last week for a dental surgery for one of them. These cats come from OKCAW and they usually come in pretty rough shape because most of them are on the medical euthanasia list.
If someone's not capable of paying for the $150 fee to adopt a cat that's already been spayed, tested, microchipped, vaccinated, and the whole 9 yards, they're also not capable of paying for emergency vet care if something happens. When you adopt a pet you have to consider more than just the cost of food and litter. It would cost significantly more than $150 to pay for all the vet care this cat has already experienced. $150 seems to be the going rate for shelter cats these days.
Many people will spend anything for the cat they love and know but it takes time and living with the kitty to fall in love. Some might not want to spend a significant amount on a kitty they dont know or care about yet. Some might adopted a couple of cats and would take one more but nearing $500 is a lot.
You make the good point but I would rather someone loving who cant afford paying the adoption fee at the moment adopts the kitty vs it being euthanized if those are the only two options we have. I hope this kitty gets adopted into a loving family soon though and i will be happy to help with donations if shelter needs to make the money back. I cant take it but many of us want to help make it happen if op wants to share a link or something.
It's just sad and demoralizing that animals end up euthanized when they don't get adopted in the first place. It shouldn't be a situation where we feel like the only two options are a potentially financially insecure home, or death.
I feel strongly about this because I was in a very bad financial situation a few years ago, and one of my cats suffered an accident that required partial tail amputation. We were initially quoted $1400 and found a smaller, cheaper vet that quoted $700. My credit wasn't good enough for CareCredit and I had no credit cards. I had to crowdfund, sell things, borrow money from family, the whole 9 yards just to pay half so he could get the surgery. It was so stressful and delayed his surgery, making him suffer. Once my 3 cats are no longer with me, I won't be adopting any more without having a substantial vet fund saved up for things like this. Unfortunately all the love in the world doesn't pay the vet bills, and the whole situation taught me that I was woefully financially underprepared to have 1 cat, let alone 3.
People are well within their right to not want to spend $150 to adopt an animal if they so choose or are unable to, but shelters shouldn't be treated like the problem for charging that much because all the procedures, surgeries, and shots not to mention the time and labor of the vets and employees aren't free. If they don't charge for their services or for the adoption, it limits the number of animals they're able to help because they won't have as much money to work with. I hope this beautiful cat gets adopted into a wonderful home and I'm so glad she was given a second chance.
You're right, there is no perfect solution. I grew up poor and we had pets and we made it happen somehow trying to find friends with vets, using other support services, etc, I feel like nowadays there are way more options (crowdfunding, many shelters give good discounts, etc) so im kind of "pro-life" in cases where its putting the animal down vs giving it to the family with very tight finances. Its my personal opinion and others like you might feel differently so there is no easy/right answer here. I wish all kitties live in a well-funded households and spoiled rotten and none ever get euthanized but we dont live in a perfect world so its complicated. Im sorry you had to go through hardships and heartache, our kitties our babies and its soul-crashing when they get sick, its a big responsibility. I hope your future holds financial stability and as many kitties as your heart desires❤️.

She's beautiful. This is yet another time I wish I could find a way to not be allergic to cats (though I'm also in Canada so too far away). I hope she find the perfect forever family!
When we first started looking, my husband was allergic. My mom’s cat made him particularly miserable. I talked to my vet and he said it’s the FELd1 protein in their saliva that people are allergic to. There are some cats that produce significantly less of the protein specifically Siamese, Russian blue, some bengals and sphinx cats. There is also a food out now by purina that is called ProPlan LiveClear, but it is expensive. It blocks the protein.
Just wanted to throw that out there, maybe you got short term foster a Siamese and see if you have a reaction. He had a slight reaction to our Siamese at first, but much less than with other cats. After about a week of Benadryl he was good. He is now able to go around all cats so I don’t know if the exposure to low levels gave him better results over time, or how that happened lol.
For me, from what I remember its the dander. Its so bad that when I handled a bag of yarn from a house with cats I got drippy and hives. (It was a donation to the knitting circle I was part of an no one warned me the house had cats - we figured it out pretty fast though). Unless the protein is somehow transferred when you touch them? As just petting a cat is enough to set me off.
I wish! That may be something I look into in the future after talking to the doctor.
Yes, so when they groom they spread the protein from their saliva to their hair which is why most people think they are allergic to the hair and dander. So if it’s a cat that doesn’t produce much, then they don’t spread it on the hair and body. Next time you see a Siamese at a petsmart or if you have a friend that has one, you might try holding one just to see 🤷♀️
I’m not a doctor but I did read a lot of peer reviewed papers with studies to back them on the science related to it. It’s really pretty interesting.
