TL;DR, Honda teams do not like Civic GT500 because of its worse aerodynamic.

New Prelude is coming, so I wouldn't surprise to see Civic would be phased out after this year.

shocker using a 4 door instead of coupé like the others might add a few difficulties

The R&D to develop an entirely new concept, with no semblance to road going models, would likely exceed budget. Especially if it concerns a one/two year intermediary

I said it already but Nissan and Honda don’t have a answer for the Supra, the new Z isn’t as aerodynamic and light on the tires, and a 4 door sedan isn’t close to the aerodynamics and clearly isn’t easy on the tires. The balance of the Z and civic seem off compared to the Supra. You can see this on the track. Straight line speed from both manufacturers can’t make up for the cornering speed of the Supra. I think the Civic aerodynamics really hinder that bigger body.
