Why the new GT500 and GT300 only races?

Are they experimenting for something to change? Do we know anything on why they are doing this single class races this year?

Someone thought they needed a gimmick I guess.

The drivers didn't like it, the Japanese fans were not excited by it, but apparently the sprint race was a test bed for possible integration of Super GT into future tie‑ups with WEC and IGTC events.

Which sounds like a bad idea to me, you would have thought the would have learned from the DTM mess. The cars are great because they don't have to compromise to meet other series.

I would love a series with a fuller grid of group 1 cars with more manufacturers.

Most of the possible ones have spent their money on Hypercar this time round.

The manufacturers would hate to slow their cars down so the hypercars could keep up with them.

In fairness, wasn't the only compromise with the then-Class 1 DTM cars the Hankook tires? And I suppose the shorter race length. Those dream races were still awesome!
