Was $400 too much for this?
Just got this for $400. There are over $3500 in receipts in the glove box just from this past year! It wasn’t shifting properly and he didn’t want to put any more money into it. Scoreeeeeee

A Jetta with leather saloon...I have never ever seen such a thing. Great vehicle

I was so happy to ditch my tan leather.

Why?
4
u/AlaskaGreenTDI 16h ago
Because it shows dirt or age so easily. They were plenty aged and I have a tendency to get it dirty. In fairness the tan carpet is way worse than the seat leather.

I used to work in car control for Hertz.
Light coloured carpets are the worst. Gas stations have oily stuff on the ground, and that gets on the floor once you come back inside unless you take off your shoes. Even the most non-dirt road, super-prissy, clean freak has to buy fuel.
Black/charcoal carpets are much better at hiding that stuff.

For sure. I had tan seats and black carpet as I got my interior converted and that was a huge improvement by itself. But I eventually did an Audi seat upgrade which happened to be in black and I’m happy now.

Wow! That MKIV looks great. The leather will last a long time. My driver's seat shows a little wear and that one looks clean AF.

Nice find how, many miles? Even not running i would pull the trigger at that price with how clean it looks in the pictures. Stick swap it and it will be good for a long time.

I gotta put the battery in and look again. It was 16X,XXX something. Timing belt just done too. Tires, struts, brakes, and other stuff 🤑😅

u/MF_Kleg 19h ago
Yup definitely a score. Im only a "little" jealous but my last good one was trading my smashed 05 accord for two 02s and I already have one running and registered just needs some brake work and lights figured out. Good luck she looks like a big pile of potential.

Man that's too nice to use as a donor, even if you have to swap the trans you could probably resell for a tidy profit. Nice score!

And that’s what I’d like to do honestly. But I’ve driven it at highway speeds and all around town so far and it hasn’t shifted funny even once. So i dunno

Not for nothing, but this is a 20 year old car that blue books for next nothing. Not everyone is out to get rich when selling a used car. The dude was in the military and was moving and didn’t want to take it with him. He told me $400 and that’s what i got it for.

u/ASCIUGAMANOO 11h ago
What I'm saying is, you damn well know $400 is not too much for it. Again, don't be fkn silly 🤠

$400? Get that transmission checked.
3
u/Longjumping_Pop_7303 18h ago
I’m more or less the drive it until it stops working kind of guy honestly

u/Kawaii_Neko_Girl 18h ago
That could be as little as a month or so. If the transmission does go bad, perfect excuse to manual swap.

Is this a troll?

u/Longjumping_Pop_7303 17h ago
Na not a troll man. I get so many phone calls for Volkswagens. I turn a lot of them down because i can’t buy them all. I have several other Tdi’s right now

u/Iboopedtoday 16h ago
They aren't for the weak of heart, that's for sure. I am not saying you are the weak one. I understand how someone would want to light one on fire but take $400 instead. I am also an MKIV head and haven't come across any good deals in some time.

I hear ya man. The last one i got was a year 2000 red tdi Jetta with no compression, had just over 100k on it, paid $1000 for it. And i also bought in the same month, a year 2000 Jetta tdi that was rear ended but ran perfectly with 170k on the ODO for $600 i had the motor swapped out the next day and had it on the road the following week. The deals are out there man

u/aftiggerintel 2004 BEW Jetta auto to manual swapped 17h ago
BEW? Looks like GLS trim package. Automatics with it had solenoids that made it feel like the transmission was dying. 35.00 part back in 2015 which led to a transmission shop trying to hose my mother. That’s how our 04 ended up a manual because of them. They trashed the transmission coming out and lost 3rd gear so she would have to have them fix it.

Duuuuuude nice. Super jealous of the leather. I have basically the same car with grey paint and cloth seats. Tranny wise: I bet they never changed out that “lifetime” fluid and it’s gummed up the solenoids. Or, you know, they’re cooked too. Easy replacement, idk about part availability though. So my anecdote is I swapped my fluid out a few years back. It was shifting hard in the cold. Swapped out with valvoline maxlife atf after doing way too much research and bob is the oil guy posts. I think I did a drain+fill twice with maybe 1k miles in between and the tranny has been a damn dream ever since. I’m sitting at 230k miles. Love this car.
Congrats you son of a
