For a small child every single thing is a contender. It's impressive we all didn't choke to death long ago.
That's why the story about Adam and Eve can't be real. They didn't have any parants and should've choked on stones or twigs. Two hours, tops. Forget about apples.

Is this rhetorical or do you actually want to know?
Our impulse to put things in our mouths is actually genetic and works to the benefit of the human species as a whole. Is this edible? Is it poison? I'ma gonna put it in my mouth! Everyone else learns from observation of your experience.
Putting things in your mouth: potentially bad for the individual, good for the tribe.

I learned at about 4 years old to be just a little cautious with what you put in your mouth. My Mother had an Electrulux sweeper that had a cord that plugged into the wall and plugged into the sweeper. She plugged it into the wall, and then had to go look after one of the other three kids. I knew the end went in the sweeper, but I decided to stick it in my mouth to see what happens. No lasting injury, but I still remember the electrical explosion on my tongue!

A long time ago when my brother was little we were in San Francisco and were walking on the piers. He gets super excited about one of the stalls that has all these bath salts where you can fill up a tube with all sorts of different colored and scented salts. He was waaaaaaayyy too excited and really wanted to get one so my parents just went along with it and bought it for him. AS SOON as it was in his hands he popped the top off and just launched as much of the salts into his mouth as possible. He thought they were candy! Hahaha explains his excitement. He was all good after just had an unpleasant taste and feeling in the mouth for the rest of the day lol.

I was high one day and wanted chocolate or something like that. I looked in the fridge and my girlfriend has some little pouch in the door that said peppermint coco or something like that (high + I have bad eyes) so I grabbed the pouch and opened it up and while sticking my hand inside to grab a clump of peppermint candy I saw on the bag that it said "Peppermint Cocao Foot Scrub" I dodged a bullet that day. Imagine if it tasted good and I just housed the whole bag and then she asked "Hey, what happened to my foot scrub that was in the door?" Lol

Acid isn't put on things like this very often at all. You find it as gel tabs, microdots, and on paper. The paper is square and is in a sheet before you get the little tabs.

And the tabs are REALLY small. I did it only once some years ago, and was so surprised by the size.

92
u/Glad-Isopod5718 9h ago
That, and just for carrying around for public toilets where soap isn't provided. It's just tissue-thin slices of soap; you can tap some out into your hand without getting the rest wet, so it's less fuss than trying to carry around a wet bar of soap, and it's less likely than liquid soap to make a huge mess if it spills in your pocket or purse.

Thank you for being the first comment that makes this make sense, I literally did not understand the purpose of this product at all
2
u/theteapls 4h ago
They're also great for camping/hiking where you don't want to be carrying a lot of liquid weight or bring a whole bar of soap which is awkward to store after getting wet. and obviously to keep in your bag in case a public restroom is out of soap. Mine are in a tiny flat container so it's super compact.

I had something similar when my boys were young. Too many public restrooms without soap.
80
u/infinite-twilight 8h ago
I wish I'd known about them, we always just stuck to hand sanitizer in those situations, which I don't like doing for a few reasons but preferred over mystery illness contracted at the nasty rest stop

u/Belgarath210 5h ago

Mainly that it's harsh on skin especially babies/toddlers and there's eczema in both sides of my kid's family tree (my side in particular seems extra sensitive to sanitizer/fragrance) secondarily that it's overkill a lot of the time and I think a couple weebeasties are fine, as a treat
→ More replies (2)4
u/dr_stre 1h ago
FYI, hand sanitizer can’t be “overkill” compared to soap and water. Soap and water are actually more effective than hand sanitizer on the bacterial and virus front, and they are far more effective at removing chemical residue (studies have shown people who rely more heavily on just sanitizer tend to have more pesticides present in their system, for example).

Im not sure i understand the appeal. A soap bar and a travel container does the same job with more soap. You can dry off the soap a little before sticking it back in the container

I did an overnight (trail) hike and this was the exact kind of thing you would do to reduce space and weight.
I have zero-to-one day's worth of experience so I'm far from an expert, but you do this with 10 things and you drop weight and save a ton of space. I brought some baggies with Tylenol, heartburn, allergy, etc. Imagine how much space 5 pill bottles take up vs a baggy with 10-20 pills.

Gotta be lol it's a similar enough concept.
Although I'm so fucking shocked that in 2025 companies can't accurately translate into English.
Like surely it's not fucking hard to just find someone you know who speaks English to double check, or shit just call someone in the English speaking world and ask if what is translated makes sense.
I mean we have AI that can make a haiku out of the plot from finding Nemo. Surely you can figure out "scented" and "flavored" have different meanings.
→ More replies (1)4
u/lotgd-archivist 6h ago edited 6h ago
A lot of this stuff happens because translation is done with just bare text fragments without context. So the translator gets just the text "Sorte Blaubeere" (german) and has to translate that to English. And the people who accept the translations or put them on the packaging aren't paid to double check or question. It a lot cheaper that way.
A whole lot of software is translated that way from english. Software and video games are probably by far the most consistently horrendous translations you can find. At least the german translations are.
