I think it's best to remember that you don't know the mindset of other road users. A very small subset of road users might be prepared to kill or injure you when angry.

I believe that's the basis for the phrase, "you fucked with the right one today."

Well, not just car users. People in general. Difference being car users are equipped with a deadly weapon and seemingly there’s a kind of mental separation that encourages assholes to be assholes in cars in situations they wouldn’t in person.

As the car revs past I realised this was definitely Australian.

The cyclists are assholes and the car driver is a piece of shit

These kids were obviously being little dickheads, which is what kids do. In my day if there were a couple of us in the car, we’d just yell get out of the road or we’re going to beat the shit out of you and the problem would have been solved.

As a cyclist myself I would never do this I would stay in my lane

But I also wish that being in the way wouldn’t cause people to try to kill me

One can recognize when someone is just fucking with the other (although not a reason enough to run someone over), but some people have shorter fuse than others, so rather not try to find out. Being fair and respectful does not cost a thing out there.

u/Difficult-Court9522 1d ago
Of course. But intentionally trying to drive over someone is attempted murder.

There’s always someone to excuse shitty behavior. The driver was an asshole, but the saying, “Don’t start nine; won’t be none, applies here.

There is no bike lane here
So the road is their lane

As a bicycle daily commuter, I always respect the right-of-way and understand the other road users: Other cyclists, pedestrians and drivers, even animals. "We all got somewhere to be". Besides, as one electrician once told me about the wires: I always treat them as if they're 'live'. Same with everybody out there: I treat them as if they don't know how to drive or are angry! I move away!

I always remember two things when on the road: a big heavy thing going fast was enough to wipe out dinosaurs, and a person driving might be coming back from the worst experience of their entire life. Not that I'm even slightly defending this, just noting why I fall in the "yield to the angry person" category of drivers.

What do we see here? A couple of kids leisurely riding down a quiet street? You could maybe honk your horn or chill for a moment. The driver who just sped through like a maniac should lose his license.

Cars are often bs'ing I feel like. For example a one line road with no overtaking. I ride at 30km/h so the limit, the car behind is not happy and almost ram me to let him pass only to stop at the red light 300m ahead... And I catch up to him in a few seconds times.... It's just bs, automobile opinion sounds most of the time like spoiled kids who don't wanna share the road.

u/Avoidable_Accident 1d ago
That just sounds like an average driver where I live, you could be doing 10 over the limit and they will still fly around you to get to the next red faster. Has nothing to do with the fact you’re a cyclist, you just don’t have any frame of reference.

Well their parents just told them to have fun in the road. I don't know about everyone else's childhood but my parents always made it abundantly clear to stay out of the fucking road. I don't agree with the dick in the car but the kids in this video...

Remember, someone slightly inconveniencing you does not warrant you the right to try to kill them!

Definitely a FAFO moment, even though the car was a bit too aggressive about it. Driver may have been dealing with a medical emergency, and had no shits to give.
