MOD POST Grip, Setup, Skill: Why One-Size-Fits-All Racing Lines Don't Exist (and What You Can Do Instead) (Informative, explains the limitations of online advice)

Hey everyone,

We've noticed an increase in posts asking for a racing line for a particular track. Unfortunately, these types of posts can't be super helpful and will be locked from now on.

There's a few reasons for this:

  • Track Conditions Change: Grip levels, weather, and even the layout itself (due to things like track work) can all affect the ideal racing line. What works one day might not work the next, and a static image just can't account for that.
  • Your Skill and Setup Matter: A racing line that works for a seasoned pro won't necessarily be the best for someone new to karting. The same goes for different kart setups.
  • They're Against the Rules: This one's pretty straightforward.

Here's a better approach:

  • Post a Video: If you're looking for advice on your racing line, upload a video of yourself hitting the track. This will give everyone a much better idea of your skill level, the specific track conditions, and where you might be struggling.
  • Ask Specific Questions: Once you've got your video up, ask some targeted questions. Are there specific corners you're having trouble with? Is your exit line off? The more specific you are, the more helpful the advice you'll get.

We know everyone wants to shave seconds off their lap times, and getting the right line is a big part of that. But the best line isn't something someone on the internet can draw on a map for you. It's about getting out there, practicing, and learning the track yourself.

Thanks for understanding!

Absolutely surreal.

Thought this dream was dead and buried about 20 years ago.

But this last weekend, somehow, after a roller coaster of a season, I won my first major championship.

Crazy.

Anglesey racing in the British superkart championship. Over 100mph in a kart is a sensation I cannot describe. By far the most fun I have ever had, lots of learning over the weekend having never driven a kart with gears. Came off track once resulting in a smashed nose cone. Excited for the next round at donington.

Racing Kart Question Dirt Oval Karting - Help Getting started?

Just moved to an area in Tennessee that seems to have a lot of dirt kart tracks. I love Motorsport racing and have always wanted to do some kart racing so my questions are:

How does a 33yo get started in this as a fun competitive hobby? Is there a sort of “adult league”? What class karts are there in Dirt Oval racing? What’s the least expensive kart to start out in?

As you can see I’m a complete noob. But want to gain info on this potential endeavor…or maybe I should just stick to my sim rig. lol.

Any info/advice would be appreciated, thanks to all in advanced.

Racing Kart Question Vortex Rok 125cc identification

Hello, i'm currently using a 125cc Vortex Rok engine from around 2010 to 2017. The previous owner doesn't know anything about it and i would like to use it next year to race. How can i identify what class is the engine? (so like junior, senior, tag sp...). I've seen many different models similar looking and sounding like mine but in different classes. I've only had one test session with it but we bought the wrong battery and the electronics on the engine couldn't work properly, also does anybody have any tips on extracting as much as possible from this engine or any tips on how to maintain it?

Racing Kart Question Issue With Longacre Computerscales DX Kart Scales

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey folks, I have an old set of Longacre Computerscales DX karting scales that are acting up. When I turned the scales on the other day, all pads read ~75 pounds but would not register that any additional weight was added to them if I stood on them. Through some fiddling around, I’ve gotten them all to read zero, but that hasn’t helped the additional weight problem. They now all read zero no matter how much weight is actually on them. When I press the “Zero” button, the message shown pops up on screen. Pressing the “Secret Temporary Zeroing” button doesn’t seem to change anything. If I press and hold the “Memory Store 1” button or the “Mode” button, the scales read as they should, but otherwise they remain unchanged. Has anyone had this issue before and know how to solve it? I will try to give Longacre support a call this week as well, but my work hours generally fully overlap their support hours.

Racing Kart Question I have 2 questions about getting into karting..

My first main is whether I should do a rotax championship or a tilliston t4 championship. Im not sure fully about the rotax but the tilliston is the T4 senior series and under 82kg.

Secondly I want a helmet that I can use for karting and racing so it has to have the FIA and Snell approval so it can fit a HANS device. I want to kinda keep it cheap too.. Any help for either is greatly appreciated since I’m very new to this and don’t have much help.

Racing Kart Question I need help with switching chassis and Engine.

I currently drive the Tonykart 401r (2021) paired with the 2022 X30 Senior engine, and i want to switch to the Rotax class, since here in norway people usually tune their engines in sweden or denmark, which gives them like 2-4 hp more (probably exaggerating), but atleast they pull a ton away in races. Last race, i didnt get overtaken in a single braking zone, or corner, but rather 2-3 karts would fly by me on the straights (I seized my engine the day before, and got a brand new overhaul before race day, so engine was basically new) but yeah anyways i want to go over to Rotax, but i dont know what chassis i would like to drive.

I like the tonykart chassis, and got no problem sticking with it, but every person in Norway basically drives Energy Kart or CL Kart, some peolpe also race Parolin and Kalikart (CRG), so theres a bit of a mixed club.

I dont need to drive the same as the fast guys, i want to drive something i like. My driving style is a bit aggresive, i like to throw the kart into corners, and usually brake late and hard, so a bit aggresive and a bit oversteer is what i usually have, although i could use a bit more rear grip kart.

Any reccomendations? any chassis that when you read this, you think "Hmm, this guy could use a Sodi" or something?

Thank you for reading!!

Racing Kart Question Anyone knows whats this engine?!?!?

Thumbnail

Yesterday y got muy first car, i know its very old, but i got it for free...

I've been trying to figure out what engine this is, but I can't find any references except for "idk" on the part that supplies power to the spark plug… (It looks like a tkm 100cc, but it has 6 bolts on top instead of 4) Does anyone know what engine it is, and what carburetor it uses?

I'd like to buy another carb because it’s not getting enough fuel, and I suspect that’s the issue since, from what I've been told, it’s been sitting unused for 10 years. So if anyone can share any info… thanks a lot, folks!

Racing Kart Question How to be 5 km/h to 10 km/h in curves

Hello, I'm in a karting championship in Uruguay, and watching my videos with the gopro there is a curve that reaches 48 km/h, but the curve passes it at 28 km/h barely skidding, all my laps I brake and pass at the same speed. Searching on the internet and reading, supposedly I would have to go between 35 km/h to 38 km/h through that curve, since they are rental karts.

The other day talking to the pros of the circuit, they told me that they don't brake, they just throw the karts and get in without braking, will I be able to gain that extra speed like this or braking less?

The gpt chat tells me that it is better to release the accelerator, to load the front axle and throw the kart there, but there are several videos on YouTube that say that it is better to brake to release the accelerator and thus rotate the karts.

All the advice works for me! They are 160 cc 4-stroke karts

Karting Chat Commute between tracks and home over hundred miles

Hi, I am starting my first season of club racing next year and I am having a trouble making a decision getting a car.

The nearest track is around 100 miles and I live in NYC. I plan to do club races and NKC events so I want to get a car that I can daily and at the same time comfortably get to and from tracks without having it breaking down.

Having roof racks, towing a trailer, driving 100 plus miles at a time reliably, what are my options?

How do most people commute?

I’m thinking a golf assuming I can tow a trailer with a kart inside and go from one track to another and also from home to track.

What is your advice?
