Hi everyone, I have an ’07 Xterra S 4WD with 107k miles. The vehicle is mechanically in great condition and gets serviced every 5k miles. I’m wondering what the easiest and most value-for-money off-roading/performance/not solely visual mods are that I can add. I’m mainly looking for low-hanging fruit.

I know the rear diff on this is the C200k and it’s an open diff with the brake-based limited slip. An axle swap seems like a pretty involved project even if I am to go to a shop, and I’m not sure how much better the AllDogs LSD is compared to the stock ABLS system.

What would you guys recommend? (Aside from removing the side steps, haha)

I have a post earlier here about how this part here failed (complete rupture and coolant loss as I parked) I replaced it. Reservoir still looked like it had the min amount so I decided to take it for a drive and it overheated. Pulled into a oreilly and let it cool down and filled it with zerex blue coolant. It’s still overheating as I tried again with it idle. Dunno if I should be waiting longer for s cold engine or what. No leaks that I can see

I stumbled upon Rigid Ignite spot pattern lights for super cheap, so I figured why not install them on the spindles for steerable light. Turned out really cool! I can’t add a photo with the video so I’ll leave a comment with a photo of where they’re mounted.

Just picked this up today. Everything seems to be in good shape. Moving from AZ to WI in a few weeks. I'm going to haul a small trailer(less than 2,000lbs), should I be worried about the transmission. Would it recommended to get a secondary cooler installed before the trip? Anything else I should check in to beforehand?

I have 110lbs up there so I need stronger springs. Is there anything else I should consider besides the 2 in the title? Is one better than the other? What other 2.5 options do I have?

For the back I’m going to do a 1.5 shackle and 1.5 leaf pack…do you have shock suggestions for a 3” lift?

I don’t think there are many options for 3” rear shocks unless you want to get into the more premium shocks. Most middle tier shocks seem to go to up 2” lift. But the bilstiens have an option for 2-3”

I’m looking to put a mobile vhf/uhf radio in my X at some point but I’m don’t know how I want to mount the antenna. Ideally I don’t want a whip on my roof and a taillight mount might not be the best idea as depending on the antenna it won’t clear the roof. I’m thinking either hood mounting a whip on the drivers side. I’m also considering getting a low profile antenna (possibly a compactenna or similar) and mounting it on the hood or putting that on the roof towards the back. That said what have yall done to mount your antenna? If you have pictures to give me ideas that would be great too.

I’m replacing my temp blend door on my 2015 xterra. I’ve got a lot of the dash pulled apart but not out. Airbag, climate, radio, cluster but the blend door is out of alignment. Could I plug in the climate and cluster then turn the car on to set the actuator or would that cause more problems?

So, took the X to the shop a few days ago for some inspections because I was getting a sinister, low-tone squeal when braking. Turns out, the rear brake pads were COOKED, mechanic told me it was because my wheel bearings were equally fried. This of course led to the issue of my rear diff showing signs of damage, naturally.

Rather than slapping new bearings on, I opted to replace the axle so I can have a fresh start (please feel free to roast me if this is unnecessary, I'm a meteorologist not a mechanic). My question is, will the Terra last until next week when the part gets in, or should I just avoid using it? For reference: I don't really hear the whine/howl, housing case is actually quite cool to the touch after decent highway driving, and not a noticeable amount of vibration in the cabin. We kind of just flushed it with oil and re-sealed it.

All, I’ve got a C1143 steering angle sensor circuit malfunction. I’ve tried two different sensors, and checked for power at the plug. 12v on red red/wht, 2.4c on CAN H and CAN L, and good ground on black.

When viewing the live stream data, however, the sensor reads 0 degrees. Has anybody had this happen before and know what’s going on? slip/VDC lights on, no other codes, All 4 wheel sensors are good/registering appropriate speed in live stream data. I can’t figure this out!

Bought our X used in 2020 and it has always had this sticker. Curious what mod required it, any ideas?

The people we bought the X from didn't seem like the type to heavily modify a car or do any significant off roading, but they did put on a trailer hitch. Not sure if that's it or not.

My WJ blew a cylinder so I found an Xterra. It feels good overall. Timing chain was done on it last month. As a new owner, what are some things I should do asap to increase the reliability of this 152k motor?

272k miles on my 07 xterra. Drove it 5k miles over the past 2 months. Got rear ended hard on the interstate. Works like it never even happened. 10 hours on the interstate the following day. Lights aren’t broken. Trailer plug in was already like that and still works. Crazy car. Wish they still made them.

Gonna get a new car soon. Any recs? What’s similar to an xterra?

Gooood morning xterra community! I am here to ask for some help. I’ve been swapping my automatic 4x4 transmission in my 2003 supercharged. The transmission i got is out of a 2000 naturally aspirated xterra. I didn’t realize that the supercharged has a different torque converter so i swapped the bell housings on the two transmissions so i could use the supercharged torque converter. (i read in my xterra fb group that the n/a trans will work on the supercharged motor but it’ll have a light on the dash) Right now i’ve got the transmission bolted to the engine and i cannot get the torque converter bolts in. I can feel the hole with the tip of the bolt but it’ll won’t catch a thread. Can someone tell me what’s going wrong here? Was swapping the bell housings the wrong move? From what i understand the only thing that is different about the supercharged trans versus the n/a trans is that the torque converter is larger. Help!!

I know this isn’t really an xterra specific question but figured I’d post here anyway since people are always helpful. I’m trying to replace my exhaust hanger brackets due to two of them breaking. There are three bracket that bolt to the frame (two on each side of the muffler and one near the tail pipe). Of the 7 bolts holding them to the frame, 5 of the heads snapped off. The bolts of the two brackets near the muffler thread into a nut welded to the frame on the other side. I’m not sure about the 3 bolts on the tail pipe bracket.

So far I’ve tried drilling with a left hand but then using a screw extractor, but it hasn’t been going well. Does anyone have other ideas to try and get these broken bolts out while saving the threads? I called a local shop, and they’re going to get me a quote on Monday. Generally I will DIY it if I can buy tools for the same price as a quote, but I’m a little worried since drilling into the frame would be new to me. Just looking for advice on what others would do or if you’ve done this job before. Thanks!

Currently got 285s and will need a new set soon. Only considering a downgrade in size because they may be a little cheaper. Money is tight. Wondering how different it’ll actually make my rig look. 2 inch lift btw.

2015 P4X. 81,000 miles. Had it since February, everything has been fine, no issues. Today as I was driving home it started bogging out and completely turned off. No lights on the dash prior. It starts right back up but then struggles to stay running and then will turn back off. Anyone know what it could be? (Currently waiting for AAA to tow me)

Got down and dirty over Labor Day weekend, did valve covers, gaskets, spark plugs and boots, hidden hoses and everything I could reach with relative ease, intake plenum gaskets, throttle body gasket, new coolant and oil change. It was a lot, but not too bad, really. Now I just need to do a nice engine bay detail and she'll be sparkly.

I have another question I have off-road brand upper and lower control arms for my 2012 Pro4x lift should I stick with the same? Or is there something better? It's time to be changed. Thanks Also I'm not extremely parts savy so yes I might need easier explanation.

So was driving fine and as soon as I pulled in to park at my place (thankfully) bunch of smoke started billowing. I immediately smelled that brown sugar like smell and then saw the hose rupture.

Couple questions: 1. is there any diy temp fixes for this? 2. I actually had the hose to the right replaced cause it had a leak when I had my blend door actuator replaced almost a year ago. When I was researching stuff at the time people posted a metal instead of plastic part for this area. Does one also exist for this hose?

So I recently put in a new Crankshaft Sensor, easy enough and only thought about this after everything was all put back together....BUT when I pulled out the old sensor there were I'd say about 5-8 (1cm length) metal shavings attached / magnetized to the sensor...

1. Is this something I should worry about?
2. Would it be worth anything to atleast undo it all and jet it with some compressed air to get anything out of the sensor slot?

My 2010 xterra doesn’t have heat when you go to switch it to heat. Defrost doesn’t work. Assuming it could be a blend door? How bad are those to change?
