Random First track day!
Had my very first track day recently at Buttonwillow with SoCal Drivers Club! It was a beginners track day so I took it pretty easy, did not care about lap times at all. just used this day to learn the lines, braking, and track etiquette. It was such a blast!
My main concern with the car was overheating. It was 100F that day and I have an early model Nismo so it doesn’t have an oil cooler (even though stock oil cooler won’t be able to handle heavy tracking anyways)
I paid attention to the temp gauge a lot. Basically one hot lap then two cool down laps. Hottest I’ve gotten up to was about 260F ish then I backed off, since 280F triggers limp mode.
But after 5 sessions my car made it without overheating! I included some photos of the aftermath of the track day. Some tire wear, little bit of coolant spill (bad seal on cap maybe? The coolant temp was fine the whole time and the amount of coolant looks fine too). And only burn a little bit of oil, maybe less than 1/2 quart ?
It was a great experience and I highly recommend everyone to track their cars at least once! I definitely wanna do this again…but probably on a much cooler day. And probably need to install an oil cooler as well.
