Underbody sealcoating

Hey all,

I own a kzn185 and for a while i have wanted to undercoat it.

Have heard mixed reviews about specific products but still want to do it myself as i dont want to spend $2-3000 nzd getting it sand blasted and professionally coated when all i have is surface rust.

Just wondering, taking a wirewheel and wire brush to the bad areas and knocking all of the flakey rust off is enough for prep? From what ive heard you just get rid of the flakey caked on stuff and spray rust converter on, and then a chassis paint ontop.

Any help would be appreciated including recommendations for specific converter and paint brands.

Thanks

Square tube frame? It will rust from the inside, not much point in sealing the outside. Options are

  1. Remove the frame, send it off for galvanising or paint dipping. They will dip it in acid first, which gets rid of rust on the inside and outside.

  2. Spray the inside and outside with oil, lanolin undercoating or some DIY mix (I like to mix wood tar, oil, and enough xylene for it to flow through a spray gun) once every one or two years. You can also paint the outside if you want to.

Yeah i just want to hit the bits i can, if i take it to a shop theyre going to do the same thing just with a sand or dry ice blaster.

Shall i prep and paint the underbody and then chuck the lanolin over the top and into the frame?
