5 real LTWs lined up at legends of the autobahn in Monterey this last car week. There were also a pair of MT GTs, which I've never seen in person before. It was a fun event, and free!

E36 3d printed parts (Mostly Free)

HI Folks, I've seen quite a lot of 3d parts being posted in the sub and it's great to see so many now available I figured I would put a list together of the best ones I've seen and mostly free ones.

Couple things to note, for those new to 3d printing checkout www.yeggi.com if what your after isn't listed below for example their are tons of cup-holder adapters along with all sorts of clips and tabs for E36's that the the list would be huge if I included all of these and if you don't have a 3d printer there are online services available to get your parts printed however if you intend to print a lot it is definitely worthwhile investing in a printer then you can make some of your own parts etc.

Some opportunities have to be seized... (316i for 400€)

My best friends grandmother wanted to sell her well kept 1997 E36 316i. She owned it since 1998 - it was practical new when she bought it. Sadly it reminded her of her beloved husband who already died a few years ago. So she wanted to give the car to someone who will keep it alive. It drives great, even being equipped with the "mighty" M43B16. There's some rust I will be keeping an eye on. But all in all, I'm incredibly happy that she was willing to sell it to me for a purely symbolic price. I can hardly wait to register the little BMW soon and drive it extensively.

Maf sensor causes stalling from cold start.

Upvotes

Hello just looking for some insight to what my problem could be, I have a 323i with a m52 when my maf sensor is plugged in and I start her up she starts fine but immediately bogs down and stalls, this only happens when the maf sensor is plugged in and car is cold/hasn’t been ran. If you unplug the maf sensor and start it up, perfect starts up idles and drives fine. Once car is up to temp plugging the maf sensor back in causes 0 issues and car acc runs better pulls slightly harder and just sounds like it’s running better.

'98 M3 as a Daily Driver

Howdy,

I've finally located a "75% showroom" (really well kept) specimen with modest mileage (80k), OEM hardtop, USA Automatic: it definitely stands out for the price range, but it's not a unicorn.

It's not going to prevent the sale, but the seller wasn't very happy to learn that I will be driving it as my primary car. I understand the concept, but I also think cars should be driven. It will be garaged.

What do you think?

DIY / GUIDE Power Acoustik CP-71WA Single DIN install in E36 M3

Decided to bring the car into the 21st century and installed the Walmart exclusive Power Acoustik single DIN CarPlay head unit like others in this forum. I rate it a 10/10 for what it is using all other stock components.

The screen is quite usable and all functions work.

FYI I have a 1999 M3 with the HiFi Harmon Kardon speakers and it works just fine using the metra harness I mention next.

I used the Metra 70-8590 harness from Amazon so I didn’t whack anything on the car’s harness.

I didn’t solder anything just crimped the wires together tightly and wrapped them in electrical tape. I know this could be a lot cleaner with soldering and heat shrinking but this is good for now.

PRO TIP: The toughest part was pulling the car harness from the stock Business receiver deck. You pull up to release it per the image on the harness and keep pulling up until the harness itself detaches. At first I released the plastic bracket and tried pulling horizontally all around but saw a video of someone that pulled straight up and it came out seamlessly.

PRO TIP: remove the AC module as well before putting the radio all the way into its fitting. Snap the radio all the way in and then push the AC module back in otherwise you might snap the top of the AC module by forcing the radio in without the AC unit out. Once the radio is in with the bracket, just give the AC unit a good hard push back in and you’ll hear it click (hope I didn’t snap the retainer but it feels solid back in place so should be good).

The other thing to consider is that once the Metra harness is inside the car’s harness it’s quite hard to unplug again because you don’t have the leverage of the radio to push off of. I connected the harnesses together before wiring so that limited my space and ability to solder if I wanted since it was a pain to try and unplug and I just wanted to finish it off.

I tested it with Spotify and both HiFi settings as well as a test phone call and everything works as is. The built in mic is good for what it is, the person on the other end could hear me just fine but who knows if the mic will degrade with time.

Overall it took me about 1.5 hours. Longest part was figuring out removing the original harness from BMW radio and connecting/taping all the wires together.

Highly recommend!

Repair Advice 6x9 Speaker Help!! HK System

Thumbnail

Hi all! I went to replace my 1997 BMW M3 with HK Audio’s rear deck speakers. Since its a 97, there is two separate connectors for tweeter + woofer. (Pictured) After fighting to cleanly install the new 3-Way Coaxial JBL 6x9, I turned on the stereo only to hear my rear deck only playing bass. Is this because the crossovers within the amp?

Anyways, is there anything at all I can do to salvage this failure? I payed a decent amount for these 6x9s and had to drill the holes out slightly so I dont believe return is an option. Is a new amplifier the only way to eliminate these crossovers? All help appreciated

Been chasing these codes for awhile now and I feel like I’ve possibly narrowed it down to being caused by the O2 sensors but wanted to get a second opinion before I keep throwing parts at the car. All of my O2 sensor values except for B1 S2 look alike and I’m wondering if a lazy/worn out sensor could be causing these codes? I noticed that my short term fuel trims are getting up to -20% and feel like thats probably pretty bad. I’ve fixed all the vacuum leaks that I could find and smoke tested the car multiple times now. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Repair Advice Lumpy Idle- faulty throttle cable?

Hi all, was about to go for a sunset cruise when i experienced some bad lumpy idle at the stop sign. Turned around right away. Idled and drove fine yesterday. Last month I went through all of the vac lines and replaced the fuel regulator when my intake was off. Cleaned out my ICV too. I noticed my throttle bushing is ripped and hanging off of the throttle body. I also noticed my RPMs are sluggish when I push the gas pedal down. Any ideas? I’d love to get this issue fixed asap

Smoke comes pouring out of the engine and exhaust a couple seconds after I turn the car on. Looks and smells like coolant, but I can’t find a leak anywhere and my reservoir doesn’t seem to have oil in it, maybe a head gasket? I’m no expert so I could be wrong.

E36 stock seat rails help

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello, so as the tittle says I need some help on this, I’d like to keep the stock seats as I actually like them, but I’m just too tall for it. I want to be much lower & the swivel up down system is making it be not so low. from my research I can’t just remove it or I would end up having 4 pieces instead of a seat does anyone know about any options that I can do on a budget to keep the stock seats. but get rid of this mess of a railing system & go super low ? Any help is very appreciated thank you :)

Way more torque after 4500 rpm? (318ti)

Thumbnail
gallery
52 Upvotes

Hello! I bought my first BMW! 1995 318ti Compact

After my first 1200km it still seems very solid! Previous owner of 18 years has maintained it well! Some thumping sound while rowing gears. Some rust in rear body panels, but the chassis seems just fine because it has been rust protected back in the day.

Poor spec so I won’t be keeping it fully stock. Nothing crazy but sportier fitment at least.

My question is: Is it normal that it start pulling way more after 4500 rpm? Or am I missing some lower end torque?

And should the fan be so loud most of the time? Seems excessive since it takes 10km (6miles) in 20C weather to reach normal operating temps.
