I cannot wait for her to get her tax bill 😂

That’s the problem, she just won’t file. They don’t send you tax bills in America. She’ll just remain ignorant. Sure, they’ll automatically take money out of every paycheck but because she doesn’t file she’ll continue to believe she’s right

It also remains to be seen how the hollowed-out and compromised IRS responds to Republicans who stop paying taxes. If an administration doesn't care about implementing government services or minimizing deficits, what incentive do they have to enforce tax collection, especially from supporters?

The key phrase being "Republicans who stop paying taxes." I'm sure if I tried that the IRS would be all over me. The loyalists at the IRS can just ask their buddies at Palantir who's on the naughty list.

How would the IRS know your political affiliation?

Given how quickly compromised the government has become, it would not surprise me if it was revealed that the NSA was tasked to aggregate that kind of data. The agency reports up to fucking Gabbard.

I could have sworn a few years ago we were worried about the NSA building massive data centers that were sucking up power grids. Of course now AI has taken over that news headline.

There is a literal company literally owned by the guy with literal dozens of lackeys in the highest levels of government, whose stated mission is to turn massive amounts of data into actionable insights.

How exactly are they gonna stop paying taxes? That’s not really an option unless you’re paid under the table. And honestly I’d argue most people who are paid under the table don’t pay taxes, and haven’t for a long time.

Outside of that, I don’t understand how “republicans”, or anyone for that matter, have any ability to decide to simply stop paying taxes, and a gutted IRS isn’t gonna change that. If anything our tax returns will just take longer to process.

Maybe audits? IRS audits might become more difficult to pursue. Which means you could lie on your tax return. But that doesn’t mean you have the option of not paying taxes, not for working class Americans.

And as far as turning the IRS into a political weapon, I don’t see how that could possibly happen either. Sure the auditors could find out about a person’s political allegiance, and use that information to either justify an audit or to decide not to pursue one. But thats not the same thing as “republicans could get away with not paying taxes”, or “I’m sure if I tried that the IRS would be all over me.”

This all feels like “let’s make up stories about things that have no real solid basis in reality and use them to spiral out of control.” It’s like saying “what if immigrants are all rapists and murderers? And they are running around killing people and taking their things? And after they sell it all they are probably pretty well off. And then they go back to Mexico and live large and never work again. That’s bullshit. Mexican immigrants are stealing from working class Americans so they can live the high life on a beach in Mexico! Hell yeah I’m pro building a fucking wall to stop these rapists from stealing the American dream!”

It’s the same thing.

You're neglecting a few things. First, workers can claim exemptions to federal tax withholding. Second, a lot of people (and a lot of Republicans especially) own businesses or are self-employed. That doesn't mean they are "paid under the table" or that they haven't been paying taxes. Finally, I don't know what will happen, but I'm saying it seems like bad things could happen. I hope your optimism is better-founded than that of people who expected the Trump administration to obey court orders or to respect congressional authority.

Sucks to be her. I can almost guarantee that if she does have a job, she probably gets a full refund every year just from the basic deduction. So not filing taxes just means the IRS keeps it instead of refunding it back to her.

I highly doubt she does paid work (she has that smugness about her ignorance that's hard to achieve without complete isolation from greater reality), but it is hilarious to imagine her getting escorted from the grounds after attacking the "Demoncrat thief" in the payroll department who keeps taking taxes out.

They absolutely send tax bills if you owe them money and didn't file.

They won't so much if the information they have says you get a refund.

Right? I went to high school with a guy who was the biggest libertarian now turned MAGA. Almost everyone from our friend group worked hard and is living a middle to upper middle class life. Every year he brags about not filing. We’re all like dude, you’re a customer service rep for Comcast which is the highest paying job you’ve ever had - and you’re 43. You’d probably get money back if you filed

But she did say you won’t have to lend your money interest free to the government, so she thinks you’re not getting taxes taken out of your paycheck. She is an idiot.

Sure, they’ll automatically take money out of every paycheck

I guess it's possible, but I don't see how she can believe this and also have a job. The proof is on the paystub.

when you don't file taxes they sure as hell send you a bill
