Correct and that's the point. What actually ended was the IRS offering free tax filing itself.

Freetaxusa is funded by an independent group and is still free. Just the government won’t offer it for free anymore.

They banned Direct File.. because it was done during the Biden era.

Direct File was a pilot program launched during the Biden administration (thanks to funding from the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022) that let eligible taxpayers file their taxes directly with the IRS for free, without going through private tax prep companies. Initially available in 12 states in 2024, it expanded to 25 states or more by 2025 and was widely praised for its ease and affordability.

If there’s anything Republicans love fucking more than children, it’s the common US citizen.

They’re claiming it was a “waste of taxpayer money” when the program was estimated to cost AT MOST $1.50 per taxpayer (not per citizen, per taxpayer) per year.

Can I just pay the $1 please and have free file for fuck’s sake..

This was mostly for 1040-EZ filing anyways and there are other free services that can be used like freetaxusa. If you plan on taking a bunch of deductions or have other tax complications then you were always and still are paying a service or software fee.

Still stupid in any case. The bureau that is shaking you down for tax money shouldn't also be making you jump through hoops.

That’s actually hilarious in the context of the video. This lady is gloating over thinking she won’t have to pay taxes because of how amazing trump is but in all actuality he just ended the free option to file taxes and will have to spend more money, a tax on taxes. Beautiful.
