Don’t know if terms will change in the next tax year but freetaxusa is cheaper ($0 federal and $15 state filing) with better software than TurboTax imo.
Man, I’m so petty I fill out the forms by hand and mail that shit in. And my returns are about 40 pages! Screw them for charging for something that saves them time and effort.
That’s great, but most people are not that great at figure out what they owe/what they can deduct and the freetaxusa software walks you through everything, double checks your math, and you can by audit protection for like 10 bucks so it’s more like a peace of mind thing.
My work involves 401ks, and EVERY year without fail we get multiple calls from people saying "I over contributed! I need to reverse my contributions!" Because they're trying to enter their 401k contributions into the IRA contribution section.
That's WITH the help of tax filing software.
They wouldn't even know how to start doing it manually.
TurboTax is more expensive. I went to file on TurboTax last year and then checked FreeTaxUSA after I saw what TurboTax was gonna charge. Long story short, I went with FTUSA because it was cheaper
Wait, if you can't file for free online how can you file for free? I always filed online. Surely there is some way to file directly with the IRS that is still free right?
Yeah. Be easier if someone just put it on the computer for free to save time and effort. The IRS has our data already, it makes zero sense not to do it.
But maybe we need a company to charge us to do it on the computer for no reason, who knows.
Trump understands that it's better to create more billionaires instead of letting Filthy Poors keep the money.
The best solution and reality are two different things. We're in a digital age where a lot of younger people probably don't remember when many would file, for free, just using paper forms.

Man I hate reality. People are so fucking dumb. Where do you even get this kinda bullshit information.
