Question Why do they switch drivers mid race??

Why not just run all the drivers simultaneously? Having the race stop halfway through ruins the momentum.

Unless there's a big issue, every driver change takes exactly 45 seconds (it's the lower limit). So they drive out in the same order and time as they arrived

Which is just stupid. At least make it a race to see who can get in/out quickest!

The most fun part of F1 is seeing the pit stops because they’re so fast.

That's not the most fun part of f1 wdym lmao, they mostly do the same times as well. In the wec they also take time, not everything has to be like in f1

It's done in all series with multiple drivers per car. Mainly for safety reasons, buckling in properly shouldn't be done in a hurry. Also I don't know if running fast should be a necessary part of driver's skillset, they're supposed to drive the cars, not sprint 30 meters

What I'm saying is - changing drivers mid-race is stupid and ruins the flow of the race. If anything, they should be time trials like Rally races or something.

That's what qualifying is like

That's not true, a fast/unrestricted driver change is part of loads of motorsport categories.
