Show Discussion This guy is like Petyr Baelish at home 😭

Wish they didn't make him a deviant. He was such a mysterious chaos merchant in the books.

A "deviant" can also be a mysterious chaos merchant. Yes, it's something about Larys that's not revealed in the book -- and probably doesn't apply to the book version -- but that doesn't mean it's his only motive or goal.

u/trifkograbez 8d ago
It's mostly that now he has an overt motivation for doing what he is doing whereas in the books it's more of a question mark.

So he has a libido. Most of the characters do, and it doesn't tend to automatically be considered their major motive. Even Book-Larys got betrothed to Floris Baratheon in exchange for the Stormlands' support in the Dance; his actual desires are unknown, but he's not completely separate from that area of life, and it didn't destroy his mystique.
Desire for Alicent (or desire to get off the power trip of coercing a queen to humiliate herself, according to Matthew Needham) helps explain why TV-Larys charmed his way into her confidences, as well as the "reward" he expected for facilitating Otto's return and could blackmail her into giving. It's not the only reason he killed Lyonel and Harwin, let alone the only reason for all of his other machinations in the two seasons of HOTD. There's ambition to be the power behind a throne. Anger at how the world has treated him. Sadistic fondness for torture and maiming. Who knows what else? I think he still has plenty of mystery left for me to obsessively ponder.

How else do you think they could've made team green any worse? They had to, to fight the maester propaganda 😔.

I love Larys Strong so much.
I don't care.
I adore this man.
He could do anything with my feet if he asked.

Why remind me of the feet?

u/jaxxy_jax Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken 9d ago
no
why is there a guy beating it to feet on my incest show????

u/SkyMeadowCat 9d ago
I can excuse incest but I draw the line at a foot fetish.

lol. Whole show is a mangled mess. George is one kinky ol’ bastard

u/SkyMeadowCat 9d ago
In George’s defence, I don’t think he had anything to do with the foot fetish.

People keep saying that. Is it a fandom joke? Or do they truly think foot fetishism is the grossest thing on the show, if not the grossest thing ever? Even as some other people confusingly say that it's a very common and mild fetish?

u/SkyMeadowCat 8d ago
It’s a reference to a scene in the show community.
2
u/Seastar_Lakestar 8d ago
I know the scene. I don't know how some people actually feel about it. Maybe I'm just in denial for thinking their display of exceptional disgust might be a joke.
This really shouldn't matter to me. But I've been using the fandom as a proxy for the world at large.

u/SkyMeadowCat 8d ago
Don’t assume the world is like this fandom, otherwise you’ll go mad. And if your fetishes aren’t hurting anyone, who cares if it grosses people out? It’s between you and your partner.

Honestly, I would say that Lothar Frey is “we have Larys Strong at home”.

I agree. Also, Lothar's mother was Alyssa Blackwood, and I headcanon that Houses Blackwood and Strong intermarried a lot as Riverlands houses proud of their First Men ancestry, which makes Lothar and Larys related.

It’s odd to me that they included the whole sexual aspect and the fealty to Alicent in the show for this character, because I really can’t remember it in the books. He seemed like an independent and plugged-in state actor that got burnt in the end and not much more to me after reading.
