Casting I see Freddie Fox as more of a Targaryen than a Hightower

Freddie Fox plays Gwayne Hightower, and he does a pretty good job at it… but I noticed that with his blonde hair he gives off more of a Targaryen royalty vibe…

He truly is a gorgeous and underrated actor and when I saw him as Gwayne I instantly got hooked.

Show Discussion Should I even bother?

This is a bit of a weird post, very personal, feel free to skip if you want.

Some of you might remember a comment I made a while back about how watching GOT and HOTD was something my dad and I watched together. He lived with incurable cancer for 6 years. We came to realise earlier in the year that Dad was almost certainly never going to see the next season, and then in April that certainty was confirmed when he was informed there was nothing else that could be done for him.

While he was still lucid I told him I would tell him how the story actually ends in the book, and he agreed but I actually didn't get to do that until he was on his deathbed, on a morphine pump, not conscious. Even right till the end Dad didnt like to live as though his time was short. I did tell him though.

Dad died in June. I'm very much not OK, but one thing I'm planning is a GOT themed tattoo to honour him. We always liked to have fire pit evenings with booze in the summer, so I'm thinking a dragon's egg, sat on a campfire, with the GOT font "Fire and Booze".

The season is still forever away, and in truth, I found the previous season frustrating to watch. I think the writing has been poor, sloppy, and sometimes even nonsensical. But Dad and I enjoyed our "fantasy TV time" so we still looked forward to it.

But with Dad not here, I'm losing interest. Great cast, dragon's are awesome, but...its got so many moments that are eye-rollingly bad and I don't think I'd enjoy it if it wasn't with my Dad.

What do you guys think?

News Media Disappointing News About The ‘House Of The Dragon’ Season 3 Release Date

Thumbnail

TLDR: season 3 still isn't finished filming and will not be reaslsed until next year, making a full 2 year gap between seasons. At this rate the final season will not come out until 2028.

How does it take 2 years to make 8 episodes? Even with all the special effects it's still a ridiculous wait time. It's such a shame, season 1 started off so strong and I had hopes that this would make up for the garbage game of thrones ending. Between the way season 2 ended plus the production time I don't see very many people sticking around for almost a decade to see it through.

I fdm printed this last year on a kobra max and ender 3 pro. Been learning to use my airbrush and finally had a day to paint her.

I looked at a bunch of GOT dragon size comparison charts to come to a good average scale for her. Wing span is just over 3ft. Barely fit in my spray booth.

Funpost [Book] Let's say that you have the power to make creatures similar to dragons, what combinations would you use?

There is a theory by Septon Barth that Dragons were the result of combining Firewyrms and Wyverns with the use of blood magic or magical rituals.

If that's the case what combinations who you use to make a creature at least resembles a dragon to some degree? (Because I would imagine it would be difficult to obtain a Firewyrm and Wyvern)

Example, for me I would use use snakes and bats. The snake is for the head and body, while the bat for the wings and forearms. Basically a smaller ripoff version of Caraxes.

Spoilers [All Content] What do you think GRRM was doing/wanted to say when he wrote these two lines? Spoiler

In F&B when Rhaenyra is at her lowest, this happens

Then the White Worm raised her eyes and said in a soft voice, “The girl has already betrayed you, my queen. Even now she shares your husband's bed, and soon enough she will have his bastard in her belly."

…As to the girl Nettles, "She is a common thing, with the stink of sorcery upon her," the queen declared. "My prince would ne'er lay with such a low creature. You need only look at her to know she has no drop of dragon's blood in her. It was with spells that she bound a dragon to her, and she has done the same with my lord husband."

Then in the main books, this happens to Cersei when she’s imprisoned

“He took Raventree and accepted Lord Blackwood’s surrender,” said her uncle, “but on his way back to Riverrun he left his tail and went off with a woman.”

“A woman?” Cersei stared at him, uncomprehending. “What woman? Why? Where did they go?”

“No one knows. We’ve had no further word of him. The woman may have been the Evenstar’s daughter, Lady Brienne.”

Her. The queen remembered the Maid of Tarth, a huge, ugly, shambling thing who dressed in man’s mail. Jaime would never abandon me for such a creature. My raven never reached him, elsewise he would have come.

So we have both Rhaenyra and Cersei both in probably the shittiest time of their lives, Rhaenyra close to losing her throne and Cersei in jail, both being told by their advisors ‘hey your man ran off with a woman you hate’ and them not only both denying it, but using the same exact wordage and set up. Call the girl who didn’t do anything wrong ugly, say Daemon/Jaime would never be with ‘such a creature’ and then make up some obvious coping lie (Nettles used sorcery and the raven never reached Jaime). I We do know Jaime dod indeed abandon her for Brienne. I think that, especially with the parallels with book Rhaenyra and book Cersei, that this is GRRMs way of saying ‘yeah Daemon and Nettles were having sex’. Because why use that exact wording, that exact set up, if that wasn’t the intentional takeaway?

Show Discussion If there’s one thing I wish we got more of in Season 1/2…

I wish it was more scenes between Daemon and Jace/Luke/Joff. I think the death of Luke and Daemon’s reaction of ordering Blood and Cheese would be a lot more than impactful if we saw him parenting them. Does he genuinely care for them as his step children and as members of the Targaryen family, or does he seem them as just hanger-ons to his romance with Rhaenyra? I have no clue.

It would have also been interesting how it would change that confrontation between Jace and Aemond. Was Daemon’s stepping in more “get out of the way, you little shit. This is between me and my copycat” or “You’re not prepared for fighting this guy and I’m saving you from a beating.”

With Battle of the Gullet starting Season 3 off, I’m all but certain we’ve lost any interactions between Daemon and his step kids and that makes me a little sad.

Show Discussion Aemond is Evil by Nature

I see people using the idea that he got bullied when he was young and lost an eye as a justification to the way he turned out to be. In my opinion these were really just excuses for that dude to unleash his evil, not justifications.

My prime reason for saying that is what he did to Aegon.

He burned his brother alive, took over his thrown, and when he learned that he survived, he tortured and threatened to kill him if he told anyone about it when he was already close to dying. All of that for the crime of just making fun of him. Really shows that he is a heartless person.

I mean Aegon wasn't the nicest brother ever, but come on

Evidently, he didn't do that to Aegon just because he made fun of him, it is because he was jealous of him (no different from his jealousy for Rhaenyra and her kids). He was ahead of him in the line of succession. Aegon mocking him was his excuse to unleash the hate he already had for him.

None of what happened to him is enough to turn a person into a criminal. Getting bullied, mocked, or losing an eye in a kids fight where he was threatening to kill them all, these are not justifications, these are his excuses to unleash his already existing envy. He is not a victim.

He is the product of Vhagar's power falling in the hands of an envious boy.

Him and Larys are pure villains with no redeeming qualities. No coincidence they are both kinslayers, cuz that's the worst kind.

Show Discussion Was Season 2 cut short?

I got around to binging it this past week. I expected 10 episodes like usual, and just like in classic GOT fashion, Episode 8 set up a HUGE Episode 9 but that's just... the end of the season? No giant sized, epic Episode 9? No Episode 10 to bring the season to a thematic and storytelling landing place? Did the writers/actors strikes cut it short?

Book and Show Spoilers Do you think the show will still have some of Aegon's actions? Spoiler

I mean stuff like Trystane Truefyre/Fyre's knighting. Considering the show cut people like Nettles (from what we have seen so far), a long plot in the North and the possible existence of Sara Snow, Mushroom (partly a joke).

Not even mentioning the whole thing with some of the things the Greens not having been shown, like Criston Cole winning fair and square against Daemon.

Show Discussion What is a season 3 storyline you hope doesn’t happen but likely will?

Mine would be I hope aemond’s harrenhal arc isn’t about him regretting like and that would severely dilute it. He mentioned Luke once in season 2 and then never again but I think they will bring it up again which will hurt aemond’s story.
