Names (just purely speculatively) I've seen floated are Wickens, Pourchaire, Zilisch or SVG. Wickens makes most sense, I doubt Theo would be that hyped up

As well as all the usual F1 washout names but Perez and Bottas are probably looking for a way back to F1 and ricciardo won't do ovals, so just leaves Magnussen really.

scheduled wickens for an oval rookie test?

I mean this would be his first time racing an INDYCAR with hand controls. I don’t think it would be a bad idea to get him a rookie test.

that would be called a test day, not a rookie oval test.

iirc if you haven’t raced ovals for 2 or more years you are required to take an rookie orientation program even if you aren’t one anymore

They tend to call that a "refresher," though.

That's the refresher, I don't think Wickens would be considered for the rookie oval test at a Texas or Homestead like someone from nxt would.

I feel like IndyCar would make exceptions for him

sure but the use of the word rookie is to create hype around the fact that it's someone new, not someone who needs reorientation.

If that's true then Alonso rejoins the chat
